WHAT I HAD HAT A DAY WE HAD AT THE ARK! HAD A BLAST AND AND I THINK EVERY ONE ELSE DID TOO! FROM THE PRESIDENT S CARRIAGE Another good event for August! I would like to thank the owners of Why not an American Ark farm for providing great facilities and to Ken Williams event manager, Ron turner assistant manager and to Mary Cody for her tireless energy and great ideas for the games and for keeping Ken & Ron going in the right direction. Welcome to our new members, see you at our September Drive. Tommy Cope WWDC President WHY NOT AN AMERICAN ARK EVENT by Ken Williams Thank you to those who attended the Whips and Wheels Fun Show at Why Not An American Ark and especially to Faith Bradshaw and Doug Prevette, who brought their teams of Percherons to compete with the single horses and drivers. We had eleven volunteers who did a great job setting up, scoring, announcing, etc. and making sure everyone had a safe and enjoyable time. Morgan Davis, a smiling and enthusiastic nine year old presented the ribbons to the winners. Jeff and Amy Wylie, owners of Why Not An American Ark, were great to work with in providing their facility and equipment for our group. I asked Amy to come over to the arena and observe the competitions and she said, "I would like to, but we are here to help your group. This is your day".

Tommy & Karen Cope, Amanda, Brian & Hunter Cochran, Pat Granzyk, Faith Bradshaw, Doug Prevette, Linda Harbison, Tricia Hardy and another guest Doyle Evans were in attendance. Tommy called the meeting to order after we finished dinner and celebrated Pat Granzyk s birthday. The previous BOD meeting minutes were passed out and reapproved. Tommy talked about the Rockbridge show and how well our members did there. The October Fair at Raleigh was discussed. We then turned our attention to planning future WWDC events. A Halloween event is already in the works for October 28 or 29th, I will need to get with Nancy to set a firm date and start planning the event. Amanda volunteered to contact Leyland Farm about holding an event there next month (September). Maybe a training event for the kinds of things you would be doing at a show and possibly a critique of turnouts if that is what people are interested in. Tentative date of Sunday September 10th A friend of Faith s volunteered to hold an event down in Southern Pines, but with the cost of fuel the way it is Faith thought we should drop that. Linda Harbison volunteered to host a Turkey Trot at Tommy s Farm in November instead. Tentative date of Sunday, November 19th. For December we talked about a Night Drive Sunday Dec 17th, in Mocksville since the town usually has something going on every weekend in Dec. Tommy will check with the town. Tommy will also check with the VFW in Advance to see if we can hold a Christmas Party there on Dec 9th. We will have a Dirty Santa gift exchange with a $20.00

Whips And Wheels Driving Club Page 3 limit on gifts. If you have never played the dirty Santa game it s really fun! Every one brings a gift (Wrapped of course) and it goes under the tree. We draw numbers from a hat and the person with # 1 has to go to the tree and pick a gift and open it. After that it can become a free for all because # 2 can choose to Steal the gift the first person got or go to the tree and pick a gift. Another group I belong to (Sauratown Trails) puts a limit that one gift can only be stolen 3 times, then no one can steal it from the 3rd person who got it. We discussed our upcoming August event at Monroe. Tommy asked me to E-mail everyone on our list to ask them to come and support the event EVEN if you don t want to bring a horse! Tommy would REALLY like to see everyone contributing to our newsletter, any stories you think others might be interested in, YOUR point of view, YOUR opinions, YOUR ideas for events. Speaking of which we might want to start an Event Committee with some of our New members on it. We talked about a nominations for officers, we should do that in November and have Elections in December. We also talked about the possibility of extending the term of office to 2 years instead of one, since the officers are just learning what they need to, to function well! Meeting was adjourned 9:04 pm Tricia Hardy/Secretary SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: September 14-17 Equestrian Exchange consignment Tack Sale; Holshouser Bldg, NC State Fairgrounds, Raleigh.
