February/March 2014 Newsletter Newsletter available for download at www.titusvilleartleague.com Greetings everyone!! Happy spring! Message from Our President It s hard to believe it is already March! Our spring show is just around the corner, so I ll start off with that. Our 50th Annual Spring Art Show will be April 10 13 at the Police Hall of Fame on 405, and it is going to be fantastic! A special thanks goes to Bob Bielling, Diane Cannon, and Ethylmay Kirk for previewing the venue with me. The space if SO well suited to our show and everything we will be doing at the show. About the show first of all, we want to salute all our past presidents. If you are a past president of TAL, please send me an email to confirm that fact. I know a few but not all. Ethylmay and I found the names of many past presidents by looking in the file cabinets for old newsletters and such, so we ARE making some progress! At our next meeting on March 19th in addition to learning about ART IN THE FOREST - we will be requesting your help for all types of show affiliated jobs. We will need people to sign up to sell ads for our show program, secure large sponsorships ($), help with registration, sitting during the show, setting up of show display boards, taking down, etc. This isn t our first rodeo, folks! Many of you know more than I do what is involved in conducting a successful show, so I am requesting your expertise and assistance! See you at the meeting and thanks in advance! ~ Linda PS Bring your BUSINESS CARD & cash or check to pay for your ARTISTIC AD in our spring show program!! Artist Diane Cannon conducted a Simply Florals Watercolor Workshop on Saturday, March 1 from 9:30 to 4:30, and it was well-attended with ten students. Thank you, Diane! Next General Meeting 7 PM March 19, 2014 Last meeting before our 50th Annual Spring Show - come here all the news! Artist of the Month Theme for March: Shades of Green 7:30 PM, March 29, 2014 Poets & Painters Meet at TAL Next Board Meeting 7 PM April 2, 2014 TAL Spring Show April 10-13 50th, American Police Hall of Fame and Museum, off 405 East, Titusville.

Meeting Highlights and Announcements February Artist of the Month Kathy Benson Theme Love Currently on display, Art Gallery of Viera announces "Exposure", a photographic art show featuring photography of all kinds, including digitally enhanced or manipulated photos, March 7 - April 5, 2014. Visit www.artgalleryofviera.com for more information. Charlie Smith spoke at our February meeting. He delivered an informative and entertaining talk on copyright law. Did you know that you can protect your original works with an unregistered copyright by simply placing a copyright symbol beside your signature and by dating each painting? Example: 2/21/36 Pablo Picasso This act alone gives notice that your work is copyrighted and permits you (as the artist) to defend your copyright in court. You will need to pay your own court costs. A registered copyright, (available for a fee), allows the same protections, but gives the added benefit of repayment of court costs for defending your copyright. In general any work created prior to 1923 is in the public domain. This means you can legally create a copy of the work. It is always good practice to give attribution to the original artist, however. For example, if you make a copy of the Mona Lisa, you could sign your work The Mona Lisa by Susan Smith after Leonardo Da Vinci. Charlie shared these and other tips at our meeting. If you missed the meeting and have questions about copyright, please consult a lawyer. Thank you, Charlie, for sharing with us! March 29, 2014 Enchanted Forest Art Show, Enchanted Forest, 10 3, Titusville. Some of your TAL friends will be painting en plein air. Come out and enjoy a day amongst nature and art. Fort Christmas Folk School announces a new woodcarving club. The group will work with resident woodcarver, Lyn Adrian. The first meeting was planned for Monday, March 10, at the Fort Christmas Folk School, with subsequent meetings tentatively planned for the second Monday of every month. The club is for all carvers (beginners to advanced). Fort Christmas Folk School is located in Christmas, Florida. Call 407-568-1009, or email fortchristmasfs@gmail.com. The first Poets & Painters meeting was held March 4 with eight people attending. Poems were exchanged and art/poet pairings were arranged. pairings were arranged. Due to the late start this year, the Poets & Painters will be giving their presentation in September instead of May (as is typical). If you are interested in participating, please plan to attend the next meeting on March 26 at 7:30 PM at TAL. All are welcome. Thank You! A special thanks to all those who have tirelessly given their time and energy - SO FAR to help plan this year s spring show our 50th! Jason Altizer, Jacqui Beberman, Bob Bielling, Diane Cannon, Ethylmay Kirk, Franci Kettman, Rosemary Pierce, Debbie Price, Candi Thorpe, and Brian Wallace. If anyone s name was left off the list, please forgive!!

50th Annual Spring Show News RAFFLE, RAFFLE, RAFFLE!! Not only is the spring show a SHOW, it is also billed as a FUNDRAISER! We want to not just cover the cost of the venue, the ribbons and awards; we also want to make some money! We need STUFF good stuff to put into baskets to be raffled! The Brevard Watercolor Society (BWS) did a fantastic job with theirs, but it involved many, many members collecting items that could be put into baskets and raffled! (The following pictures were taken at the BWS annual SPLASH show with their permission.) Silent Auction This can also be a great way to raise money! This has been done in the past, but we want to make it bigger and better this year!! Please, please, please find a small, quality item to donate to the cause. We need a chairperson for this activity! This year, FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, TAL will be accepting credit cards for payment of art! GOOD, NEW STUFF! Gift certificates, cards, small prints 5x7, candies, wine, candles, bath items, gourmet cheeses, jewelry, wine glasses, coffee mugs, ETC. All these items should be new and top-notch! We only have ONE meeting between now and the show, so if you can gather multiple items for TAL, we sure would appreciate it.
