POMONA VALLEY ART ASSOCIATION 300-A South Thomas Street, Pomona CA 91766 (909) 469-1599 visit us on the web at: www.pvaa.net N E W S L E T T E R J U L Y 2 0 0 6 CONGRATULATIONS TO JUNE S MONTHLY SHOW WINNERS! COUNTRY GARDENS 1 st Springtime at the Farm, Howard Snider 2 nd Thistles and Bees, Joyce Dezwart 3 rd Cottage Garden, Carolyn Cunningham First place entry, Springtime at the Farm by Howard Snider President s Message Hello everyone, I promised you in last months letter that I would let everyone know how we could start off our improvements of the Pomona Valley Art Association (PVAA) so that we can better carry out our mission statement of offering an inexpensive, yet pleasant place for artists of all skill levels to be able to display their works. The first thing is to get everyone involved, so we are starting with two things; one, is a donation drive to improve Progress Space Gallery and the second is to ask PVAA members to come up with and submit Themes for our Monthly art shows at Gallery SOHO for 2007. The donations are to improve the ability to hang and display artwork in the Progress Space Gallery. Currently the gallery uses a chain system that is unwieldy and difficult to use. The current system makes it virtually impossible to hang smaller to medium works of art and even larger canvases are difficult to hang so that they are displayed in a professional manner. The cost for putting in a grid system for displaying would run $3000 for the materials Photography- Purple Dream II, Dorothy Brunell with volunteers providing the labor. I have gone ahead and done a portion of one wall to demonstrate how this new system would look, and work. I invite everyone to come to the gallery and see how effective it was in hanging the current show on display there called Eklektikos. The trip to the gallery will be well worth your time. If every member donated $10 and went and asked one donation from a local business we would reach our goal by the end of this year. So I encourage you to help by sending whatever you can to help improve this spaces ability to be easier to hang and thus easier to rent. The second thing I want everyone to participate in is our contest to come up with names for our Monthly themed art show at Gallery SOHO for 2007. The reward for your efforts will be that each month s winning theme will give the person who submitted it a certificate that will allow them one free entry for that months show. So put on those thinking caps and submit some of your ideas, the entries will be judged by me, and the Gallery and monthly show coordinators. All entries must be in by August (President s Message continued on page 3)
