The flow ering heads are more compressed w ith a dull, gray blue color. This hybrid apparently evolved naturally near the seas in Spain, Italy and France. Many commercial manufacturers use both Lavandin Grosso and Lavandin Abrialis as replacements for Lavender 40/42, but they have a much rougher, camphorous scent. Its name means 'dew of the sea' because Rosemary naturally grow s near the Mediterranean Sea. The Japanese plant the tree in their temples and on tombs, and pound the bark for use as incense. It is also domestically referred to as Ti-Tree. It can grow up to 7 meters (20 feet) in height and thrives in marshy areas, though it is now cultivated in plantations. The aboriginal people of Australia have long used Tea tree Oil. Historically, the leaves w ere used as a substitute for tea, w hich is how it got its name. In World War II, the producers and the cutters of Tea Tree w ere exempt from military service until enough essential oil had been accumulated to accommodate the military's needs. Tea Tree is very robust and is ready for cutting only tw o years after its previous harvest. As Essential Oils have become more accepted by the public, the use of Tea Tree Oil has increased significantly. This is readily seen in the commercial products now using Tea Tree, although this grade is best used for therapeutic applications. It has a w oody root system w ith a multibranched stem, and small elliptical greenish-grey leaves. This variety is native to Morocco. Thyme is derived from the Greek w ord thymos that means 'perfume'. It w as used in herbal medicines by the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans, as incense in Greek temples, and in embalming by the Egyptians. During the Middle Ages it w as given to jousting knights for courage, and a sprig of thyme w as later carried into courtrooms to w ard off diseases (as w ell as to freshen the air).
