Call her by any name but at the core of it all is a She is the essence of womanhood. Today she has invaded every male space, stormed every male bastion and emerged a winner. Her avatars are manifold. At one end of the spectrum she is a homemaker, at another level she is a pilot touching the skies. And some have gone beyond to touch the stars like Kalpana Chawla (God rest her soul in peace). Today s woman is in sports, IT, hotel management, banking, insurance, arts, music, law, media, journalism, advertising, cinema... the list is endless. The emergence of women into public life and politics was certainly encouraged by the Independence movement and free India Campaigns of the 1930 s when women went to prison along with their men. And women like Sarojini Naidu moved great crowds with of unjust British laws. History is replete with innumerable examples of women who have essayed a transformational role in society, contributed in countless ways to create a better world. To just name some of them would be doing grave injustice to countless others. For every woman who made headlines, there were many others, who from their home made a difference by nurturing future leaders.
