1 1 For release 20 September National gallery of Iceland and Reykjavík International Film Festival present The One Minutes Dylan Spencer Davidson, No Fear, During Reykjavik International Film Festival, The One Minutes Series of October, World at a Crossroads Open Call, Wake Up Call, curated by Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson, will be exhibited at National gallery of Iceland Listasafn Íslands in Reykjavík. The festival also presents eight The One Minutes Series in the official programme and in the RIFF Around Town program. 2 2 The One Minutes is a global network devoted to moving image. Since 1998, The One Minutes has produced and distributed more than 17,000 video works by artists from more than 120 countries. Every month, The One Minutes Foundation puts out a new series of 60- second films that investigate how we perceive and engage with moving image. Museums and cultural organisations around the world subscribe to the series. Evans HD video, 18 min The Glomar Response refers to a term that confirms a 'neither yes nor no' answer to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act (US), a way to avoid acknowledging whether or not a piece of information even exists. Imagining 'glomarization' as a broader context in which both yes and no answers are strongly present, this edition of The One Minutes assembles a collection of submitted one-minute video responses as research into this condition. Taking the title we do the voodoo from the idea of possession and rhythmic entrainment Helen Dowling has initiated a video program that relied upon each artist responding to the previous artist s one-minute video and nominating the next artist to do the same. Modelled roughly on the Exquisite Corpse drawing game invented by the Surrealists, this is an experiment with the rhythm and contingency between artists and the structure of The One Minutes organisation. Communication with the non-human curated by Melanie Bonajo HD video, 20 min What does a plant know? What goes on inside the mind of funny bot? Do PMS dolphins turn into cranky bitches? All around us, complex systems of giving and receiving are performed by rather ancient and marginalized machines like corals, grass, seahorses and even rather primitive creatures, such as dogs and families. Through practical observation, the multifarious communication between humans and non-humans can be viewed as responsive behavior, defined by one designating the future behavior of all. Let's think over this arrangement for a while. Otherwise we might, in the near future, end up belonging to that misunderstood class, at odds with its environment. Nyau Cinema approaches film as a sovereign activity. Making film becomes a way of escaping the limitations and conventions of everyday life, where the self is playfully re-conceived as part a larger scheme of things. Nyau is a Chewa word for excess.
