12 PROGRAM DIRECTORS MARIE ZAMPINI Program Co-Director & Senior Educational Manager Marie has over two decades of experience under her belt as a professional makeup artist and hairdresser. She has been a dedicated instructor at JCI since 1997, and now, she also holds the titles of Co-Program Director and Senior Education Administrator. On top of her natural ability to lead, Marie is a gifted artist who displays an unwavering passion for her work, both in and out of the classroom. In the film industry, Marie has worked on sets including The Chronicles of Riddick and the awardwinning film, Island of Shadows. Her fashion and commercial portfolio boasts well-known brands like Off the Wall Clothing, Canadian Airlines, Canada 3000, L.G., Hasbro and MTV. She has also worked for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and with living beauty legend, Laura Mercier who is known as the go-to makeup artist for celebs like Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Jennifer Lopez. You also may have seen Marie on Urban Rush and Breakfast Television, where she shares makeup tips and trade secrets. With her finger always on this pulse, Marie is constantly soaking up industry knowledge that she can pass on to her students. I MOVED OVER 6000KM ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO COME TO JCI. DYLAN RONALDS JENNINE COOK Program Co-Director & Industry Liaison Makeup is more than just a career for Jennine; it s a way of life. She began her career in film at the New York Film Academy, then studied costume and art design at the Vancouver Film School. She found her true calling when she started studying makeup, nearly 17 years ago at JCI. After graduating with honours from both JCI s Makeup Artistry Diploma Program and Mastery in Prosthetics Program, Jennine spent a decade working in film and television, specifically for W Network and Slice. She filled the gaps between seasons by working on commercials for McDonald s, Mattel Toys, OxiClean, and Kohl s. Jennine discovered her love for special effects makeup while working on a variety of films, ultimately leading to a Leo Award nomination for Best Makeup in a Short Drama in Throughout her career, Jennine has dabbled in every aspect of the industry. Now, she co-runs the makeup program and acts as the Industry Liaison at JCI. As Industry Liaison, Jennine has accumulated an extensive network of contacts, including point people at companies such as Sephora, Nordstrom, Holt Renfrew, and MAC, as well as key players in the TV and film industries. She regularly refers artists to work at Breakfast Television and CityTV, and has also hired students to work at Vancouver Fashion Week, as part of JCI s sponsorship of the event. Jennine is the person you know that s in the know, and she s here to help you make connections that count in the makeup world. To date, Jennine considers being the owner of Transformation, her local makeup and theatrical supply shop in White Rock, one her greatest accomplishments. As someone who has consistently redefined what it means to be a successful artist, Jennine brings an incredibly dynamic, well-rounded perspective to the JCI community. experience and enthusiasm to the JCI classrooms.

16 PORTFOLIO WORKSHOPS JCI MIXERS JCI MIXERS are free photo shoots designed for JCI students looking to put their skills to use and gain more practical experience. Each student will work on a team consisting of a makeup student, a hair student and a fashion student. Together, the students will create three looks. At the end of the workshop students will receive a Certificate of Recognition and credit towards their final grade. JCI MIXERS happen on the last Sunday of every month and are great rehearsals for the Build Your Own Book (BYOB) workshop. BYOB BYOB sounds fun, because it is. Build Your Own Book is a photo shoot developed for the top JCI students in the hair, makeup and fashion programs. The networking opportunities, creative advancement, team development and photoshoot experience are just a few reasons why this is one of JCI s most coveted workshops. During this full-scale photo shoot, students work alongside JC Model Management models and local professional photographers to create 20 production quality images for their portfolio.

20 GRADUATE SPOTLIGHTS SAMANTHA Makeup Artistry Graduate RACHEL Makeup Artistry Graduate Since completing her MUA Diploma, Samantha has kept herself busy working with numerous internationally-known makeup companies including MAC, Smashbox, YSL, Tarte, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and Urban Decay Cosmetics as a Social Media Superstar. Even more impressive is the way she utilizes social media to promote her artistry. Earning her way into international stardom through her fantastic makeup tutorials, Samantha s skill and talents have been noticed by millions of viewers and followers! Sam s biggest tip is to Network, network, network! You never know who you will meet or who will take an interest in your work. You will feel discouraged at times, but keep creating- it s important to stay passionate about the work you do. Most importantly, remain humble! You always have more to learn. Whether you have been in the industry for ten days, ten months, or ten years, there is someone out there with something to teach you that will make you a more wellrounded artist. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for this rising star. Rachel is the epitome of an artist. While studying her Makeup Artistry Diploma at JCI, she simultaneously earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Emily Carr University. Rachel, a previous JCI Instructor currently living and working in London, England, thinks outside of the box and her makeup applications are truly works of art. Her talent was rewarded on many occasions including First Place in the Make Up Forever 20th Anniversary Competition and the Vancouver Fashion Week Competition. Rachel was also the Canadian runner-up for the Lancôme Color Design Awards. Rachel has worked on over a dozen films and has been a regular contributor of features in Easy Living, Eve, British Glamour, Essentials, Bon Marche magazines, Ikea catalogues, and Vanity Fair. As a member of Bobbi Brown, Nars, and MAC cosmetic teams, she also dipped her hand in the retail side of the industry. Rachel has extensive experience in makeup for music videos, fashion shows (Marc Jacobs), television, models portfolios, actors head shots, theatre, and body painting. JENNY Makeup Artistry Graduate SARA Makeup Artistry Graduate By the time Jenny graduated from JCI s MUA Diploma Program, she d already completed 30 photo shoots, 15 weddings, 4 music videos, and 2 short films. It was no surprise she claimed the Overall Achievement Award at her graduation. Now, Jenny is known as an awardwinning and double-leo-nominated makeup artist, who specializes in cruelty-free beauty. Jenny advocates against animal testing and for pure, botanical-based beauty by working as an Arbonne Independent Consultant. On top of it all, Jenny also teaches at JCI and is the owner and principal stylist at Mink Makeup and Hair one of the city s most renowned bridal beauty studios. Sara graduated at the top of her class in JCI s Makeup Artistry Diploma Program. From there, she went on obtain her business degree and was scouted by LVMH and The L Oreal Group with offers from Toronto, Los Angeles and New York. Sara s talents have taken her from fashion styling, to international make-up training, to cosmetics buying, to teaching. Through it all, Sara s true passion was to create a brand of makeup that puts quality above everything else so that s exactly what she did. Her signature cat eye look inspired her to develop her first ever makeup product: the best-selling Amaterasu long-lasting liquid eyeliner.
