Our hearts and prayers reach out to our friends, relations, business colleagues and fellow Kiwis there. Both directly and indirectly we ve all been affected by the earthquake - many selfless volunteers, Search & Rescue teams, Civil Defence and armed services personnel rallied to help. Tales of heroism and unselfish acts of kindness have emerged and will be told for years to come. Surprisingly we were asked to help out too! And we were glad to rally to the cause. As the disaster unfolded a team of volunteers in Christchurch committed themselves to providing round-the-clock meals to the USAR crews and emergency personnel in the front line. Arrow was contacted to provide stocks of White Hygiene Coats, Snood Caps and Aprons and OF COURSE we were pleased to respond. The tireless guys from the RNZAF were running virtually non stop shuttle services around the clock transporting people and hospital patients out and rescue teams and services personnel in. A quick call was made to organize the delivery of uniforms, and it was No trouble just mention that PUTTS says its OK, said the RNZAF guy we spoke to. So thanks to Putts and the RNZAF, the delivery was there overnight that s what you get when New Zealanders pull together. We were pleased to do what we could to contribute to the effort. Along with us all we will be plumping for our compatriots in Canterbury as the province recovers.

It s quite a hard ask at times, especially as we rarely meet the end-wearers who are totally dependent on the right size being ordered. At Arrow, when garments are returned with problems, we always check the sizing first. It s easy for us to tell if the wearer had the wrong size: the waistband rolls over; the legs have wrinkles through the thighs; the seams are grinning ; or if the fabric has literally given up because of the tension. These factors all play a key part in how long garments last. If the size of your uniform is right, the life of your garment is extended and you ll look great too. Important things to consider... Clothes have to fit well to ensure they re comfortable and look good. It s a really, REALLY important factor wearing the right size means the buttons don t pop off when you sit down, means you can retain your flexibility and look good when lifting or squatting. The wrong size affects the garment s life: extra strain is put on the fabric if the uniform is too tight across the bust or chest, through the thighs or over the hips and the extra tension means the uniform will wear out much faster. Don t worry too much about the size on the label; we can always remove the tag for you. It s far more important to be comfortable when you re working, in a garment that s not restrictive and not going to cramp your style. Particularly for men, ensure trouser legs are the right length (they should break on the shoe s upper). Tight garments look awkward and can send the wrong message so don t fool yourself by continuing to think you re always a size 12 or only a Medium get the right size! It s much more important to be comfortable in your clothes than trying to look sexy when you re at work. Good staff always come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They have to state in Plain English how to care for your uniforms Sometimes these will also contain symbols which also describe the appropriate care method. Clothing Care Advice Stains Take immediate action. When a clothing item gets stained from food or a spill, take immediate action and clean the stain straight away. Waiting allows the stain to settle into the cloth, and you might not be able to clean it later. This is especially true with greasy foods and coloured drinks. Washing Don t over wash clothes; delicate clothes shouldn t be washed like towels or bed linen or with them. Clean your washing machine monthly by running a hot wash with one cup of white vinegar and no clothes. This will counteract soap build-up and rust. Then run a second load with water only. Drying Only use the dryer when necessary. Clean the dryer s lint trap before every use; this will reduce drying time and remove lint from your clothes more effectively. Dry several loads in a row to take advantage of the heat remaining in the dryer. Make the most of New Zealand s location in the Roaring 40s; our boisterous winds are great for laundry which is best dried line dried and much more economical. Clothes dried naturally last much longer; after all, where do you think the lint in driers comes from? Don t over dry clothes; if they need ironing, it s best done when they re still slightly damp but don t forget to air them before storage. Ironing It s much harder to get the creases out of a dry shirt. Use a mist spray if necessary. Remember to remove any collar stays, unbutton any buttons. Always iron the front of the shirt last. Airing the garment after ironing: Fasten the top button and hang on a plastic coathanger to air for at least 30 minutes before placing in a wardrobe or folding up to travel. Drycleaning Wools, satins, silks and velvets are examples of fabrics that need this special care. Refer to your care instructions inside the garment if unsure. Play safe. Always go for the 3-5 day service so your garment is grouped with similar textured and coloured garments.

What is Screen Printing Screen printing is one of the earliest methods of printing yet it is still used extensively today.

Posters, signs, flyers, advertisements on buses, t-shirts and even watch dials are screen printed. Thus there are many applications of screen printing.

7 What is Screen Printing Screen printing is one of the earliest methods of printing yet it is still used extensively today. It is a process involving the passing of ink or any other printing medium through a mesh or screen that has been stretched on a frame, and to which a stencil has been applied. The stencil openings determine the image that will thus be imprinted. These stencils are achieved by photolithos with several screens being required for multi colour prints. Applications Screen Printing The substrate or surface on which screen printing can be carried out are too many to be named. Any surface that can be stretched and printed on is a surface for screen printing. These days the CD Covers, pens, bags and beautiful cotton fabrics, silk and polyesters can all be screen printed on, as well as polos, sweatshirts and numerous uniform items. Posters, signs, flyers, advertisements on buses, t-shirts and even watch dials are screen printed. Thus there are many applications of screen printing. History Screen printing was a technique first used by the Chinese almost 2000 years ago. They used human hair stretched across a wooden frame to form the screen. To that they attached a stencil made from leaves stuck together into different shapes. This was probably the first application of screen printing ever. Subsequently, the Japanese adopted the screen printing process and used woven silk to make the mesh and lacquers to make stencils. The use of silk is where screen printing got its alternative name Silk screening or silk screen printing because silk is such a fine material. Equipment No matter what kind of screen printing machine used you still have some form of screen. The make up of this screen determines the design and image output. A squeegee device is used to spread the inks being used and the screen allows inks to permeate through the mesh and transfer the graphics onto the garment beneath. The best screenprinters may flash some garments with special prints or those with very thick prints to minimise cracking and ensure longevity. No one wants their screenprinted garments to look sad after a few washes. It s important to use the best process for customising your garments. Sometimes screen-printing will be the best option and other times it might be embroidery or heat set logos. Talk to us about what you re trying to achieve and our staff will explain the options. Sometimes when the minimums are low alternatives are more cost effective. There are also costs of setting up the screen initially and also charges for washing up the inks (which can be quite toxic) when its all over. Good volumes in screen printing give the best value. Finally if you can give us good quality artwork in a vector or eps format is best. Other forms don t allow such good clarity of image. Screenprinting starts from as low as $3.00+GST.
