2 MISSION StatEMENt 2011 SNOW at arrow tuesday 17 th august 2011 the day WELLINGtON StOppEd! As most of NZ hunkered down and froze from the Polar blast that swept through the country something particularly rare happened at ARROW UNIFORMS and throughout the whole Wellington region. It snowed for the first time in most people s living memory and certainly for the first time since 1976 when I can remember the last time we threw snowballs at each other on our home turf. Normally when we think of snow we think of a trip to the Southern Alps or Mt. Ruapehu and an outing planned in advance. You can dig out or borrow skis, jackets, 4WDs and for most people it becomes an adventure to a known destination. This blast that hit us was totally unexpected... Most of the school kids in the region had a day or two off to build snowmen and most of the time was spent indoors as it was so raw. Things slowed down at ARROW with traffic moving slowly outside, couriers virtually non-existent both in and out as the country tried to keep warm. Some of the staff togged up and moved slowly round dressed up like the Abominable Snowman with the rest just savouring the moment. These are some of the pics of ARROW and its environs. Many others of you out there will have favourite snaps too and it was fun while it lasted. However now that it s over spring is in the air and every one s astir up and down the country as we get ready for the next big event on the calendar. It isn t global warming that s for sure! Have a great month. Des Ford, Managing Director Our Mission Statement states: We will only sell garments that we like to wear ourselves and then over a period of time we will help our customers by lowering their ongoing expenditure on and involvement in ordering uniforms. Making uniforms is a hard ask at times. The products have to be well priced but typically made to be much more durable than your average shirt or blouse. So much more hangs on the quality in uniforms. If it doesn t last well we can t really expect repeat business. Conversely if the garment is over engineered it will price itself off the market. Fortunately our experience pays off and we will work with providers who understand and can meet our technological requirements and provide durable fabrics, dyed with European dyes to be colourfast, that are easy to care for and sometimes finished with a Teflon or Scotch guard soil release finish. These finishes enhance the performance and life of the garments that they are used in and actually help garments look better for longer by assisting with sealing in the colours. We then manufacture these fabrics into garments with a good fit that doesn t pull across the back or seat, have decent armholes for movement and if the style needs it an action back or pleats for extra room. Garments tend to wear out precipitately if they are too tight and seams bust open too (when you sit down). That s why we bar tack all stress points and use twin needle or safety stitch machines wherever we can to add that extra strengthening dimension so garments don t give way at an awkward time. We want our customers to understand what we do and why, so they can buy from us with confidence. It s a great mission!
3 première VISION NEW york! Last time I went to New York was back in the olden days when I was 16, so it was quite refreshing to go back there on business. The reason we went was to visit a number of suppliers and to check out the latest colours and trends by visiting the PREMIÈRE VISION show in New York. I realised afresh that you have to know how Americans tick to even get into the country. The first people you meet are the forboding US Customs officials (and remember these guys sift through thousands of immigrants, tourists and other wannabes daily) and after taking our fingerprints, doing an iris scan on each eye and comparing the passport photo to the real thing, the guy who was processing us started on the questions. That s not a show! That s a trade expo he said. So I was in. The PREMIÈRE VISION Trade Expo was the place to go to learn about what the in colours will be for and beyond. We got the drift of how styles were evolving and which colours were going to be used. This allows us to be in sync with what will be happening generally in fashion. So we re confident that when you deal with ARROW UNIFORMS the garments in our range will generally reflect and integrate with what s around on main street fashion. Our customers will be pleased to know we have been following these trends for several years now and the colour palettes we work with and that are throughout our catalogues have been developed from attending these trade expos and seminars around the globe. The first thing they wanted to know was: So what sort of business are you doing in the US? Obviously as I was on business I had ticked business because I thought that was what you did. So I said Well we re going to New York to see a show. He responded by saying That s funny, I don t see how going to a show in New York can be called business. What sort of show is it? I suddenly realised this customs guy was thinking of some sort of show on Broadway or something. When I pulled out my Expo Registration all was well.

5 rugby World Cup Guidelines The imminence of the 2011 Rugby Season and its highlight with the World Cup matches throughout NZ is exciting many New Zealanders. Its an event that many have waited for with huge anticipation and yet we hope your expectations are not ruined by using the wrong logo anywhere... Under the MAJOR EVENTS MANAGEMENT ACT 2007 (MEMA) the Rugby World Cup tournament this year carries punitive potential for those who wrongly use words, terms or symbols associated with the event. The Ministry of Economic Development have published a document called RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011 IN NEW ZEALAND A Guide to the Major Events Management Act 2007 in an effort to outline what you can and cannot do. A copy of this is available on You should also take legal advice if you are not sure on what you can or cannot do. Amongst a number of things established to protect RWCL and the official sponsors of RWC 2011 are: Key words like RUGBY WORLD CUP, WORLD CUP 2011, RWC, WORLD IN UNION, RUGBY NEW ZEALAND 2011, TOTAL, RUGBY, WEBB ELLIS CUP, IRB, cannot be used. Key RWC 2011 EMBLEMS various logos and symbols recognised as synonymous with the event can t be used either. These key words and symbols are protected under MEMA, and in our opinion should not be used. There are also stringent rules and regulations on what you can and can t do with signage near the grounds where games are hosted and things like what you can and can t say on signage at cafes, bars and other retail outlets endorsing any elements of the game or its participating countries. The Rugby World Cup is an exciting opportunity for NZ and for the clothing industry in particular.
