2 BETWEEN THE LINES
3 INSPIRATIONS Between the Lines is a project about the dynamics of geometric vs. organic. The silhouette of the garment, the organic, was inspired by the fanciful, romantic dresses of Alexander McQueen s Spring 2010 line, Plato s Atlantis. The geometric, the print on the garment, was directly inspired by a series of sculptures by Mark di Suvero. One of these sculptures entitled, Are Years What? (for Marianne Moore) is pictured left. The focus of Between the Lines is to not only emphasize the importance of line, but also the negative space created between the lines.

5 COLOR STUDY While the emphasis of Between the Lines is the negative space between lines, the color study for this project focuses on the lines; two ends of a bridge compliments, blues and oranges.
6 SKETCHING
7 SKETCHING Process sketches for garment print. Sketches were then scanned and manipulated digitally to create a repeat pattern for screen-printing.
8 DYEING & PROCESS The fabric used for this project includes a silk crepe de shine for the dress with a silk georgette lining. The dress fabric was hand dyed using acid dyes in a hot dye bath. The yardage for both fabrics was then screenprinted using fiber reactive dyes

10 FLATS The dress for Between the Lines is a 3 piece sleeveless bodice with a high-low skirt pleated at the waist. Open back on bodice, zipper in center back seam.

14 INSPIRATIONS Crustacean Rhythm is a series of digital prints inspired by layering not only layering various prints on top of one another to create a new design, but also layering the process of creation itself. Below - Pilbara region, Australia

16 Above - The Lovers by Rene Magritte COLOR STUDY The color palette for Crustesean Rhythm is a refined reflection of the earth s natural pigments. Using deep greens and blues inspired by the ocean, to light tans and oranges reminiscent of the earth and sand.
17 SKETCHING All the geometric layers in the Crustacean Rhythm line began with hand drawn sketches of geometric shapes. Once a basic motif was established for the shapes, the sketches were then scanned and manipulated digitally to create multiple repeat patterns.
18 DYEING & PROCESS The organic layers of the Crustacean Rhythm line were created using a traditional Japanese fabric dying technique called Shibori. Once the fabric was dyed and washed, it was then scanned and manipulated digitally, resulting in a one of a kind repeat pattern.

22 THE STRIKER
23 INSPIRATIONS The Striker is a garment inspired by the alterego. The Striker has a female body with the head of a panther this creature comes from the world of the flame, where all of creation began. The focus of this project was to create a beautiful and mysterious garment, while also showcasing the technical abilities involved in pattern drafting.

25 COLOR STUDY The color palette for The Striker is kept simple and sleek; black for the dress with gold jewelry accents, accentuating the focus of the project, pattern drafting.
26 SKETCHING Sketching for The Striker began by replicating the shape of a tetrahedron. The tetrahedron was then broken apart, creating yet another shape. This shape was then repeated to form a pattern. This shape, and the pattern it made when repeated are what inspired the silhouette of The Striker dress.
27 PROCESS The pattern for The Striker dress was adapted from a basic sloper pattern. Bust dart converted into armhole seam, waist darts converted into princess seams, back shoulder dart into back neckline.

29 FLATS The Striker dress consists of a 5 piece front yoke, princess seams front and back, as well as ¾ length, 2 piece sleeves, creating volume at the shoulder with a slender bodice fit. The surprisingly deep plunging back neckline meets at the center back zipper and seam.
