2 Welcome to our Style Guide for Summer/Fall Hopefully this will be a great tool for you to take back to your office and use as a handy reference as projects come in, your store needs more inventory or you seek inspiration. I was just reading an article tonight about how image driven we have all become because of the transition to our mobile devices as the primary source for information. As we all know, it is much easier to browse pics on those smaller screens than to try and read text! Thus, we have sought to stimulate your senses with this image driven Style Guide that highlights most of the lines we proudly represent and what is trending with each at the moment. I encourage you to think visually as you shop market, merchandise your store or communicate in any of the various social media platforms. With all the various ways to communicate, I find myself regularly scanning Instagram (jdouglas13) in particular to see what you, our customer, are doing. I enjoy the way you inspire me with pics from your travels for sourcing product, installations, store visuals and on occasion even getting to see a personal side of your life through family photographs or vacation spot shots. My other favorite is Twitter (@jdouglasselfjr) and while I am personally not a big tweeter, there are many feeds that I follow for trend inspiration, deeper product knowledge and tips on selling, merchandising or many other industry related topics. The short texts are many times enough, but if I want more information it s always available with a simple click. With all of this in mind, you will see a shift in our marketing efforts to a lot more digital applications in the coming months and in fact this piece is available on our website (jdouglas.com) and on a single webpage too. I love this quote from a book I just finished, The Hyper-Social Organization: Eclipse Your Competition by Leveraging Social Media. It states, Social media allows us to behave in ways that we are hardwired for in the first place - as humans. We can get frank recommendations from other humans instead of from faceless companies. After all, aren t we all better served by contributing to the greater good than just keeping it to ourselves. I have always thought that if we are really doing what we love and being successful at it, we are too busy to be threatened by our so called competitors. At the same time, I believe very strongly that the sum of what we all know and share can serve to make us all stronger and that we should not be afraid of sharing with those of like mind. After all, each of these social outlets has ways for us to choose with whom we share!
