Radiocarbondatingofhistoricpearlsmustbefurtherinvestigatedwithwell documentedsamples. Extractionmethodstoavoiddestructionofpearlshavetobefurther developedbyminimisingthesampleweight. Formostpearls,thegeographiclocalitywheretheyformedisnotknownor onlyvaguely.thisresultsinproblemswhencorrectionsforthecarbon reservoiragesarerequired. Ingeneral,freshwatershellsandpearlsgive fancy ages(carbonreservoir).
