Among plastic containers, tubes are expected to register the strongest growth, with squeeze tubes continuing to supplant plastic bottles and other containers based on performance and aesthetic attributes, as well as expanded usage in prestige applications. Although glass will continue to lose ground to plastics, that material's premium image will support continuing demand in traditional key applications (e.g., fragrances and cosmetics), and the shift of the population toward the over-45 segment will drive demand for high value added skin creams and lotions, a significant portion of which are packaged in glass jars. * Excluded from the study are secondary containers not designed for use beyond the point of sale (e.g., shipping crates and merchandise display boxes), flexible packaging, and dispensers, closures and applicators. Also excluded are containers for personal bar soaps, medicated toiletry products and "hard" personal care items like tooth and hair brushes, dental floss and razors. Squeeze Tubes Plastic squeeze tube demand in cosmetic and toiletry applications is projected to increase 3.7 percent per year through 2005 to 2.5 billion units.
