1 Kids Fun Run Final Instructions SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Friday, September 22, 2017 Kids Fun Run Race Start: In front of Lock 3 Park on Main Street 200 S Main Street, Akron, OH Race Finish: In front of Lock 3 Park on Main Street 200 S Main Street, Akron, OH New in 2017! 5:00 p.m. Registration opens* Family Festival Begins 5:30 p.m. Race announcements begin 6:30 p.m. Race Start 8:00 p.m. Family Festival ends Race Bibs Each of the children running will receive a race bib. This bib will also have a tear off tag for the adult accompanying the child to keep that has the same bib number as the child. In the case of adult and child getting separated, upon being reunited the adult will be asked to show the tag to confirm it matches the number on the childs bib. Free Race Photo for Every Participant! Enduro Photo will be the official race photographer for the 2017 race. Every participant will receive one free download of a photo from the race. To view your child s photos, you will look the child up by their race bib number. Photos can be viewed at AkronMarathon.org the week following the race. You will receive an notifying you when the pictures are ready to be viewed. 1

RACE DAY PARKING AND DRIVING DIRECTIONS Parking for the Kids Fun Run will be at the State Street parking deck behind the Barley House restaurant at the corner of State and Main Streets and the Bowery Street parking deck across from Akron Children s Hospital. Parking will be free beginning at 4 p.m. Please plan to arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. to allow time to get registered and into the start corrals. From the Turnpike I-80 East/Rt. 8 Follow Rt. 8 South to Perkins St. Turn right on Perkins Street. Turn left on S. Main Street. Turn right on Bowery Street. Turn left on State Street. The State Street parking deck is located on the left side of the street at the corner of Main Street and State Street behind the Barley House restaurant. Or continue on Bowery Street. The Bowery Street parking deck is on the left side of the street across from Akron Children s Hospital. From the North I-77/I-76 (they run concurrently briefly) VIA I-76 Exit at Main/Broadway/Downtown. You will merge with a one-way side street (South St.). Follow South St. to the 2 nd light. At that point all traffic MUST turn left onto Broadway, which is a one-way street. Travel North following Broadway to State Street (about 1 mile). Turn left on State Street. The State Street parking deck is located at the corner of Main Street and State Street behind the Barley House restaurant. Or continue on State Street and make a left on Bowery. The Bowery Street parking deck is on the left side of the street across from Akron Children s Hospital. From the North I-71 to I-76 East and South I-71 Exit at Main/Broadway/ Downtown (follow directions above) From the South I-77/I-76 Exit at Main/Broadway/Downtown via I-77.The exit ramp Y s, bear right on exit ramp to Broadway (Broadway is a oneway street). Follow Broadway to State Street (about 1 mile). Turn left on State Street. The State Street parking deck is located at the corner of Main Street and State Street behind the Barley House restaurant. Or continue on State Street and make a left on Bowery. The Bowery Street parking deck is on the left side of the street across from Akron Children s Hospital. 2

Exchange and State St. 6:30 p.m. 7:00 p.m. RACE START Starting Line Corrals All Kids Fun Run participants will line up in the starting corral based on age. There will be age group signs along the corrals. Lining up by age with older runners in the front creates a smoother start for all runners. All walkers and families with strollers should line up at the back of the corral. Corrals will be divided up in the following age groups beginning at the start line and moving back: 11 & 12 - Yellow 9 & 10 Green 7 & 8 - Blue 6 & under - Purple Participants will be led to the start line corrals by a volunteer who will have an age group sign. Each age group will be assigned a color. The age group sign color will match the flag color in the start line corral. Families with multiple children that would prefer to run together will go to the corral for the youngest participant. Restrooms Restrooms will be available in the Lock 3 commons area beginning at 5:00 p.m. Concessions Concessions will be available for runners and spectators starting at 5:00 p.m. Concessions will be located inside the Lock 3 commons area. COURSE DETAILS Course Information The Kids Fun Run course is run on paved asphalt and concrete streets. Course Limit The Kids Fun Run course will be open for 30 minutes. 3

4 First Aid Station There will be a first aid station at Lock 3 park located next to the information booth near the parking deck. Prohibited on the Race Course For the safety of our runners, the Akron Marathon does not permit: pets, skateboards, bicycles, roller blades, or any other types of vehicles (other than official race vehicles) on the course. Please do not bring or carry any of these items with you. The Akron Marathon reserves the right to remove anyone from the course who has any of the above items or does not act in a safe manner. All participants agree to abide by and accept the rules of this race and abide by any decision of any race official concerning the runner s ability to safely complete the race. Lost & Found All items left at the event will be taken to the Information Booth located in Lock 3 park near the parking garage. Two weeks after the event unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity. The Akron Marathon is not responsible for lost items. Information Booths For our runners convenience, an Information Booth can be found in Lock 3 park near the parking garage. RACE FINISH Finish Line The finish line for the Kids Fun Run will be located on S. Main Street in front of Lock 3. Once across the finish line, runners will receive a commemorative medal and water. Runners will then exit Main Street and enter into Lock 3 park to reunite with parents at the end of the ramp. Once in the park runners will be able to visit vendors throughout the park as well as get an apple and chocolate milk. Vendors include Akron-Summit County Public Library, Boys and Girls Club of the Western Reserve, EarthFare, Girls on the Run, Kent State University, Kiwanis, Lock 3, National Park Service, and SkyZone. Safety Upon arriving to the Kids Fun Run please determine a meet up plan with your child in case you get separated. Colored flags will be placed throughout the park for this purpose. Each child will receive a race bib for the race. On the back of the bib please write the name and cell phone number of the adult at the race with the child. There is a removable tag with the bib number for the adult to keep. If you become separated from the child, you will be asked to show this tag when reunited with the child. If your child is under the age of 5 a parent/guardian must participate in the event. 4
