2 Is there room for imagination nowadays? Could we invent (or rescue) more ludic, poetic, silent or even amateur approaches to share sensitive dissonances with people at large? What would political reinvention mean from the perspective(s) of art? Living in a land where inequality reigns in all aspects of life, wish (perhaps utopic) is to commune such imagination with a broader public not so focused to contemporary art trends, being in mind the rich, diverse and emancipated spectators we all are, regardless of education background, social class or cultural identity. Life is broader. So is art. Alice Shintani Sao Paulo, Brazil (under coup d etat), 2018.

4 tuiuiú, 2017 / intervention on public space in collaboration with sem título s.d. curatorial collective, são paulo / around 200 flags were installed inline among mario de andrade public library + dom josé gaspar square + aber (brazilian association of binding and restoration) and shared for free with pedestrian public. the intervention were not negotiated with local military police officers. the handpainted flags were inspired on modernist artist athos bulcão s tiles installed on brasilia government buildings during the high military dictatorship period in brazil.

6 there were about fifty homeless people living in the square, but we did not want to go on sort of assistentialist art, neither falling into escapist aesthetics to deny the reality of that place. 14 tupinabentô, 2017 / To what extent does the way we consume relate to how we perceive and act in the world?

15 tupinabentô set: recycled cardboard box + banana tree leaves from neighborhood + cotton fabric + home cooked curry, guacamole, banana and coconut dessert, oniguiris (rice balls) and giant-leaf plain bread. sets were served in an open sarau, where people were invited to buy (or not) tupinabentôs in a freely price-yourself-and-pay-secretly basis. the profit was then spent to share tupinabentôs with homeless neighboors who didn t attended the sarau. *photograph with autorization tupinabentô, 2017 / tupinabentô = tupinambá (our so called native anthropophagic ritualists) + bentô (japanese home-packed cheap meal)

36 alice shintani são paulo, brazil, lives and works in são paulo. alice works from an expanded idea of painting as starting point to imagine forms of approaching to the emancipated other and to reflect on the possibilities of aesthetic experience today: where, whom and how we can share it in order to dislocate something.
