The truth is, all needles have 3 bevels (1 primary & 2 secondary) to create a point. Needles are designed to meet three basic functions: the A bevel for drawing fluid; the B bevel for direct injection of medication through the muscle tissue; and the C bevel which is designed to interface only with a secondary apparatus such as in IV usage. In the past, the needle used in the piercing industry was the A bevel. This type of needle, while sharp, can drag at mid-bevel and microscopically tear upon exit. Standard bevel lengths and grinding procedures used to produce the A bevel are not aimed toward the highly specialized function of piercing.
