THE WEEK THAT WAS Tuesday, 22nd June 2015 The meeting opened at 7.05pm with President Elect Paul M welcoming all members. Paul passed on Pres Mike s apologies and then advised of the passing of 2 well know Rotarians, Gary Davies and Pat Lennon. RIP Gents Chairman: Rob H Called for reports: PROGRAM: Alan Lunghusen Alan, a member at Rowville Lysterfield Rotary delivered an interesting presentation on his Kiriwina Water and Sanitation Project. After a visit to Kiriwina (an island in New Guinea), Alan decided to help the village communities in some way. These people lead a very primitive lifestyle. It was decided to improve the fresh water and sanitation needs of the island, specifically connecting existing tanks and feeding fresh water to the hospital building, installing wash basins and taps in each hospital ward as well as Western style toilets in the schools. Alan estimates this to be at least a 2 year project with an estimated cost of approx. $100,000 of which $30,000 has been raised so far. Pres Elect Paul read some housekeeping notes and advised he would see us all at Changeover next week!. Volunteers still needed for various timeslots. BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE ROSTER 9.00 12.00 p.m. 12.00 3.00 pm Tuesday, 30th June Enid Hughes International: Paul M gave details of a new project collecting non prescription sunglasses being run by Boronia Rotary Youth: NIL Fellowship: NIL Rotary knowledge: Christine A spoke on Rotary International and provided a wonderful overview of RI s structure, aims, ideals, programs and achievements Sergeant At Arms: Virginia created great interest due to her wealth of finance jokes. Knox Rotaract are proud to present their Red Faces night. This is going to be a great night!! 18 and up event. You can preform and show others what you have got or just sit back and enjoy the show. We would just love to see you there:) All money raised is going towards Peter Macs efforts to conquer cancer. A friend of Knox Rotaract Angela Kane will be participating in the "exclusive" Peter Mac fundraising team at Tough Mudder. Last year she was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer and now she is planning on completing everythingin Tough Mudder running and pushing her body and even getting electrocuted along the way!! All because Peter Mac helped her through her fight and they help hundreds of others a year who are under going treatment for cancer. All proceeds will go towards things like research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
