5 Cultivation of Seahorse in Jeju Island Seahorses are rare sea creatures that possess natural antioxidative substances. Seahorse is a rare fish that is used as a raw material for medicines. A kilogram of top-quality dried seahorses are sold at USD 10,000 in China. Though artificial farming of seahorses is very difficult because they only eat live prey, our globally recognized technology has enabled the cultivation of as many as 600,000 seahorses a year. Fishers of Jeju Island can get seahorses from the Center and grow them in their floating cages along the coasts. This high value-added business will contribute greatly to exports for Korea.
