Do not use this device for diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease. Measurement results are for reference only. Contact your GP if you have or suspect any medical problem. Prolonged high fever requires medical attention - especially for young children. This thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult. To avoid injury, do not allow children to walk or run during temperature measurement. Use ear thermometer only for its intended use. Gentle force should be used when inserting the probe in to the ear. Excessive force may injure the ear canal or eardrum. HOW DOES THIS PRODUCT WORK? This unit detects infrared heat from the eardrum and surrounding tissue. The thermometer takes 512 scans of the eardrum and surrounding tissue in one second and displays the calculated temperature. The temperature displayed represents the measured ear canal temperature converted to the more familiar oral equivalent. This is performed using a mathematical adjustment of the ear canal temperature. Note that this reading will not necessarily be the same as a temperature measured orally at the same time. When consulting a physician, it is important to communicate that the temperature reading was taken in the ear and converted to an oral equivalent. WHAT IS NORMAL BODY TEMPERATURE? WHAT IS A FEVER? The average normal body temperature is 98.6 F (37 C). Fever is defined as a body temperature elevated over an individual s normal body temperature. It is important to determine each person s normal body temperature in order to properly assess whether or not a fever is actually present. This range can easily be determined by tracking temperatures on a consistent basis, using the same ear and measuring at the same time each day. This ear thermometer converts the ear temperature to an oral equivalent and meets industry standards regarding temperature accuracy. For temperatures between 96.8 F F (36.0 C C), it is accurate to +/- 0.4 F (+/- 0.2 C). See Product Specifications (p.17) for more information. WHAT IS THE FEVER ALARM? The Fever Alarm is a unique feature that will alert the user anytime a temperature reading is 100 F (37.8 C) or greater with a visual notice on the display (a frowning face) and a double beep audio alert (visual alert only in memory mode). For readings at or above this temperature it is LIKELY that a fever is present. Note: A temperature reading below 100 F (37.8 C) does not mean that a fever is not present. Likewise, a temperature greater than or equal to 100 F (37.8 C) does not guarantee the presence of a fever. 3 GB

3 Each individual s physiology is different and you should monitor your own body temperature to determine your normal temperature range in order to determine when a fever is present. Classification of a temperature as a fever also varies by age. This product is not intended as a substitute for consultation with a physician. Contact your physician if you feel an illness is present with or without a fever. A physician should be consulted if any of the following conditions are present: Vomiting, diarrhea, changes in breathing, activity, or appetite, irritability, lethargy, or unusual sleepiness. INSERTING AND REPLACING BATTERIES 1. Remove the battery cover as shown in Figure Carefully remove the battery by pressing down on the metal clip holding the battery in place. Do not use metal tweezers or a screwdriver to remove the battery. 3. Insert one CR-2032 (3.0 V dc) battery with the plus symbol (+) up as shown in Figure Replace the battery cover. When the low battery symbol appears on the display (Figure 3), the battery should be replaced. When the low battery symbol appears with the Lo symbol, the battery must be replaced in order for the ear thermometer to function. NOTE: Do not discard used lithium batteries in trash. Please turn in at an official collection point. If the monitor will not be used for an extended period of time (three months or more), please remove battery. CHANGING TEMPERATURE SCALE BETWEEN CELSIUS AND FAHRENHEIT To switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit readings, simply press and release the F/ C button located behind the battery compartment cover while the unit is on by using a small flat instrument. Once the desired scale is selected, press the Scan button to take a new reading or allow the unit to turn off automatically and then turn it back on to view the converted temperature stored in memory. 4 MEMORY RECALL This thermometer will automatically store the last temperature measurement in memory. The most recent reading will automatically display when the unit is turned on. Each new temperature reading will replace the temperature stored in the memory. When viewing a memory reading, the symbol below will appear in the bottom left corner of the display. Indicates a memory reading HOW TO TAKE A TEMPERATURE READING 1. Always make sure that the waterproof probe has been cleaned with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol since its previous usage. 2. Press and release the SCAN button on the side of the device. All display symbols will appear for approximately one second (Figure 1). 4. Press and release the SCAN button again with the ear thermometer outside of the ear. An arrow symbol will appear on the display (Figure 3). Figure 3 Indicates measurement in progress 5. Insert the probe tip of the ear thermometer into the ear canal within two seconds (Figure 4). It is important that the probe tip be well positioned within the ear canal. Measurement time for the actual reading is approximately one second. Figure 4 Figure 1 6. A beep sound will indicate the end of the measurement. Results of the temperature measurement will be displayed (Figure 5). 3. When the ear thermometer is ready, the display will next show the results from the last reading. 5 If a temperature reading is greater than or equal to 100 F (37.8 C), the fever alarm will display a frowning face and beep twice to alert the user that it is likely that a fever is present (Figure 6). THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT A FEVER IS NOT PRESENT AT A LOWER TEMPERATURE. For more information on the Fever Alarm feature, please refer to the What is the Fever Alarm? section of this manual (page 5). Figure 6 Fever Alarm The temperature range of this ear thermometer is 93.2 F (34.0 C) 109 F (43.0 C). If a measurement is below this range, the unit will display Lo (Figure 7). If above this range, the unit will display Hi (Figure 8). The unit will automatically turn off after 30 seconds of non-use. IMPORTANT NOTES REGARDING TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT The measurement results that users receive are for reference only. If users have any health concerns, please consult a physician. It is not necessary to perform an ear tug or pull on the ear before taking a temperature measurement. For additional measurements, users should wait at least 5 seconds between readings to ensure accuracy. Use the ear thermometer at room temperature, as extremes in environmental temperature can impact accuracy. Unit should be stored at room temperature. Before use, the unit must be at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. Clean the waterproof probe with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol between readings. Always keep rubbing alcohol/cleaners away from children. It is recommended that you take multiple readings (three or more) in the same ear and use the highest reading in the following special circumstances: When taking the temperature of an infant younger than three months. When taking the temperature of children under the age of three who have special conditions, such as compromised immune systems, and for whom the absence or presence of a fever is critical. When you are first learning how to use this ear thermometer and until you are obtaining consistent readings. Note: Slight temperature variations may be observed (+/ F or +/ C) in consecutive measurements. This is common to all types of thermometers. Always take the temperature in the same ear, as readings may differ from one ear to another. The ear must be free from excessive earwax buildup or other obstructions in order to take an accurate reading. Note that you should never attempt to clean inside ears, however, as this may result in damage to the eardrum or surrounding tissues. Remove only excess earwax that can be reached with a washcloth. Consult a physician if you suspect excess earwax is present within the ear. Ear temperatures may be influenced by external factors, including: An ear that has been rested upon or covered General exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures Recent bathing or swimming Use of hearing aids or ear plugs It is recommended that measurement occur at least 20 minutes after these circumstances are no longer present. This ear thermometer is for use in human ears only. Do not use for oral, rectal, or axillary temperature measurement. GB 8 9 GB

6 SPECIAL SITUATIONS IN WHICH THE EAR THERMOMETER SHOULD NOT BE USED Pain of any kind is noted during use. Blood or drainage is present in the external ear canal. Deformities of the ear canal or face exist that prohibit the thermometer from being properly inserted into the ear canal. Ear medication or ear drops have been placed in the ear canal. Ear infection of any kind is present. Individual has been bathing or swimming, as this may lead to injury of ear tissue, as well as inaccurate readings. Thermometer should be use in a dry ear canal. CARE, MAINTENANCE & CLEANING Clean the unit carefully with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use any gas, strong detergent, or solvents to clean the device. Clean the waterproof probe with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol. Never attempt to insert any object into the probe tip. Do not immerse the unit in water as this will result in damage to the unit. Waterproof portion of unit is limited to probe tip. Do not subject the ear thermometer to extreme temperatures, humidity, moisture, and direct sunlight. Do not disassemble the ear thermometer. If in need of repair, refer to the warranty section of this manual. Do not subject the ear thermometer to extreme shocks (do not drop on floor). When not in use, keep thermometer in its storage case and out of the reach of children. Battery liquid can be harmful if leakage occurs. The thermometer is initially calibrated at the time of manufacture. If this thermometer is used according to the use instructions, periodic re-adjustment is not required. If at any time you question the accuracy of temperature measurements, please contact HoMedics Consumer Relations. Consistent high temperature readings ( Hi ) Consistent error messages ( Err ) The probe is not positioned properly in ear. The waterproof probe is dirty. Temperature reading is above measurement range (above F/ 43.0 C). Operating temperature is not within the permissible range for measurement. Utiliser uniquement le thermomètre auriculaire selon l usage spécifié L insertion de la sonde dans l oreille doit se faire avec précaution et douceur. L enfoncer avec force peut endommager le conduit auditif ou le tympan. COMMENT FONCTIONNE CE PRODUIT? L appareil détecte la chaleur infrarouge émise par le tympan et les tissus environnants. Le thermomètre effectue 512 balayages du tympan et des tissus environnants en à peine une seconde et affiche la température calculée. La température affichée représente la mesure de température du conduit auditif convertie en mesure orale équivalente, plus familière. Cela est réalisé par un ajustement mathématique de la température du conduit auditif. À noter que ce résultat ne correspondra pas nécessairement à une température mesurée par voie orale, simultanément. Lors d une consultation chez un médecin, il est important de lui préciser que la température a été prise dans l oreille et le résultat converti en mesure orale équivalente. QU EST-CE QU UNE TEMPÉRATURE CORPORELLE NORMALE? QU EST-CE QUE LA FIÈVRE? La température corporelle normale est en moyenne de 37 C. La fièvre est définie comme une température corporelle élevée, dépassant la température corporelle normale d une personne. Il est important de déterminer la température corporelle normale de chaque personne afin d évaluer correctement la présence d un état fiévreux ou non. Cela est facile à déterminer en effectuant un suivi des prises de température régulières, toujours dans la même oreille et à la même heure, chaque jour. Ce thermomètre auriculaire convertit la température de l oreille en équivalent oral et satisfait aux normes de l industrie en matière de précision de température. Pour les températures comprises entre 36 C et 39 C (96.8 F F), il est précis à +/- 0,2 C (+/- 0.4 F). Voir «Caractéristiques techniques» (p. 17) pour de plus amples informations. GB 12 QU EST-CE QUE L ALARME FIÈVRE? L Alarme Fièvre est une fonction unique qui avertit l utilisateur dès qu une mesure de température est égale ou supérieure à 37,8 C (100 F) par un signal visuel sur l écran (un visage renfrogné) et un signal sonore de 2 bips (seulement signal visuel en mode mémoire). La présence de fièvre est PROBABLE lorsque les mesures prises sont égales ou supérieures à cette température. 13 F

8 Remarque: Une mesure de température inférieure à 37,8 C (100 F) ne signifie pas la présence de fièvre. De même, une température supérieure ou égale à 37,8 C (100 F) ne garantit pas la présence de fièvre. La physiologie de chaque personne est différente et vous devez surveiller votre propre température corporelle pour déterminer votre plage de température «normale» afin de savoir reconnaître un état fiévreux. La classification d une température comme état fiévreux varie également avec l âge. Ce produit n est pas prévu pour se substituer à l avis d un médecin traitant. Contacter votre médecin traitant si vous vous sentez malade, avec ou sans présence de fièvre. Un médecin doit être consulté dans l une ou l autre des situations suivantes : Vomissement, diarrhée, changement de rythme respiratoire, d activité ou d appétit, irritabilité, léthargie ou somnolence inhabituelle. DESCRIPTION DE L APPAREIL INSERTION ET REMPLACEMENT DES PILES 1. Enlever le couvercle du compartiment batterie comme indiqué en Figure Retirer délicatement la pile en appuyant sur le clip en métal qui maintient la pile en place. Ne pas utiliser de pinces en métal ou un tournevis pour retirer la pile. 3. Insérer une pile bouton CR-2032 (3Vcc) avec le symbole plus (+) en haut, comme indiqué en Figure Remettre le couvercle en place. À noter que le thermomètre affiche une température par défaut de 00.0 C/00.0 F après remise en place de la pile et jusqu à toute nouvelle prise de température. DESCRIPTION DES SYMBOLES AFFICHÉS Température Sonde Bouton Scan Celsius Fahrenheit Lorsque l alerte de batterie faible s affiche sur l écran (Figure 3), la pile doit être remplacée. Lorsque l alerte batterie faible s affiche suivi du symbole «Lo», la pile doit être remplacée pour que le thermomètre auriculaire fonctionne. REMARQUE : Ne pas jeter les piles lithium usagées avec les ordures ménagères. Prière de vous en débarrasser dans un point de collecte officiel. Retirer les piles si le dispositif de contrôle n est pas utilisé pendant une période prolongée (trois mois ou plus). POUR PASSER DES DEGRÉS CELSIUS EN DEGRÉS FAHRENHEIT Pour passer des degrés Celsius en degrés Fahrenheit, il suffit d appuyer puis de relâcher le bouton «C/ F» situé derrière le compartiment batterie pendant que l appareil est allumé, en utilisant un petit instrument plat. Après sélection de l unité souhaitée, appuyer sur le bouton «Scan» pour prendre une nouvelle mesure ou laisser l appareil s éteindre automatiquement ; puis le rallumer pour voir la température convertie stockée en mémoire. 9 RAPPEL MÉMOIRE Ce thermomètre stocke automatiquement en mémoire la dernière mesure de température. La mesure la plus récente s affiche automatiquement dès que l appareil s allume. À chaque fois qu une nouvelle mesure de température est effectuée, elle remplace celle précédemment mémorisée. Lors de l affichage d une valeur mémorisée, le symbole ci-dessous apparaît au bas, à gauche de l écran. Indique une valeur mémorisée COMMENT PRENDRE LA TEMPÉRATURE 1. Toujours s assurer que la sonde étanche a été nettoyée à l aide d un coton-tige imbibé d alcool depuis sa précédente utilisation. 2. Appuyer et relâcher le bouton «SCAN» situé sur le côté de l appareil. Tous les symboles d affichage apparaissent pendant environ une seconde (Figure 1). 4. Appuyer et relâcher à nouveau le bouton «SCAN» le thermomètre auriculaire restant à l extérieur de l oreille. Un symbole flèche apparaît sur l écran (Figure 3). Figure 3 5. Introduire l embout de la sonde du thermomètre auriculaire dans le conduit auditif en deux secondes (Figure 4). Il est important de bien positionner l embout de la sonde dans le conduit auditif. Le temps de mesure de la valeur effective est d environ une seconde. Figure 4 Indique une mesure en cours Figure 1 6. Un bip sonore signale la fin de la prise de mesure. 10 Si une mesure de température est supérieure ou égale à 37,8 C (100 F), l alarme fièvre affiche un visage renfrogné et informe l utilisateur par deux bips de la présence probable de fièvre (Figue 6). CELA NE SIGNIFIE PAS QU IL N Y A PAS PRÉSENCE DE FIÈVRE AVEC UNE TEMPÉRATURE INFÉRIEURE. Pour de plus amples informations sur la fonction Alarme Fièvre, reportez-vous à la section «Qu est-ce que l Alarme Fièvre?» de ce manuel (page 5). Figure 6 Alarme Fièvre La plage de température de ce thermomètre auriculaire est comprise entre 34 C (93.2 F) et 43 C (109 F). Si une mesure est inférieure à cette plage, l appareil affiche «Lo» (Figure 7). Si supérieure à cette plage, l appareil affiche «Hi» (Figure 8). REMARQUES IMPORTANTES CONCERNANT LA MESURE DE TEMPÉRATURE Les résultats de mesure obtenus par les utilisateurs sont uniquement à titre de référence. En cas de problèmes de santé, prière de consulter un médecin. Il n est pas nécessaire de tirer ou de redresser l oreille avant de prendre la température. En cas de prises additionnelles, il est préférable d attendre au moins 5 secondes entre chaque mesure pour en garantir la précision. Utiliser le thermomètre auriculaire à température ambiante car des températures extrêmes peuvent impacter l exactitude des mesures. L appareil doit être stocké à température ambiante. Avant utilisation, l appareil doit être à température ambiante pendant au moins 30 minutes. Entre chaque mesure de température, nettoyer la sonde étanche avec un coton-tige imbibé d alcool. Garder toujours les produits nettoyants et alcool hors de portée des enfants. Il est recommandé de prendre plusieurs mesures de température (trois ou plus) dans la même oreille et d utiliser la valeur la plus élevée dans les circonstances spéciales suivantes : Lors de la prise de température d un jeune enfant de moins de trois mois. Lors de la prise de température d enfants de moins de 3 ans présentant un état particulier, comme un système immunitaire déficient, et pour lesquels l absence ou la présence de fièvre est critique. Lors de la première utilisation de ce thermomètre auriculaire et jusqu à l obtention de résultats cohérents. Remarque : De légères variations de température peuvent être observées (+/- 0,2 0,3 C ou +/ F) lors d une prise de mesures consécutives. Ceci est courant à tous les types de thermomètres. Toujours prendre la température dans la même oreille, du fait que les mesures peuvent différer d une oreille à l autre. L oreille ne doit pas être obstruée par un bouchon de cérumen ou autres impuretés afin de prendre une mesure précise. Il est néanmoins recommander de ne jamais nettoyer l intérieur des oreilles car cela peut endommager le tympan ou les tissus environnants. Enlever uniquement l excès de cérumen accessible à l aide d une serviette de bain. Consulter un médecin en cas de présence d un possible bouchon de cérumen dans l oreille. La température de l oreille peut être influencée par des facteurs externes, incluant: Une oreille qui a été couverte ou sur laquelle on s est appuyée Exposition générale à des températures chaudes ou froides extrêmes Juste après avoir pris un bain ou nagé Utilisation de sonotones ou d écouteurs. Il est recommandé de prendre la température au moins 20 minutes après que ces circonstances se soient produites. Ce thermomètre auriculaire ne doit être utilisé que dans l oreille. Ne pas utiliser pour toute mesure de température orale, rectale ou axillaire. F F

11 CAS PARTICULIERS OÙ L USAGE DU THERMOMÈTRE AURICULAIRE N EST PAS CONSEILLÉ Douleur de toute nature observée durant l utilisation. Présence de sang ou d écoulement dans le conduit auditif externe. Déformations du conduit auditif ou du visage ne permettant pas l insertion correcte du thermomètre dans le conduit auditif. Traitement de l oreille par insertion de gouttes dans le conduit auditif. Présence d infection de toute nature dans l oreille. La personne a pris un bain ou a nagé ; cela peut affecter les tissus environnants ainsi que la précision des mesures. Le conduit auditif doit être sec avant d insérer le thermomètre. SOIN, ENTRETIEN ET NETTOYAGE Nettoyer soigneusement l appareil avec un chiffon doux et sec. Ne pas utiliser de détergent gazeux puissant ou des solvants pour le nettoyer. Nettoyer la sonde étanche avec un coton-tige imbibé d alcool. Ne jamais essayer d insérer tout objet dans l embout de la sonde. Ne pas plonger l appareil dans l eau car cela pourrait l endommager. Sa partie étanche se limite à l embout de la sonde. Ne pas exposer le thermomètre auriculaire à des températures extrêmes, l humidité, la buée et en plein soleil. Ne pas démonter le thermomètre auriculaire. Si une réparation est nécessaire, se reporter à la section garantie de ce manuel. Ne pas exposer le thermomètre auriculaire à des chocs extrêmes (ne pas faire tomber par terre). Lorsqu il ne sert pas, conserver le thermomètre dans son étui de rangement et hors de portée des enfants. Le liquide de la pile peut être dangereux en cas d écoulement. Le thermomètre est étalonné en usine. Si ce thermomètre est utilisé conformément au mode d emploi, des réajustements périodiques ne sont pas requis. Das Gerät erkennt Infrarot-Wärme, die vom Trommelfell und dem umgebenden Gewebe abgegeben wird. Das Thermometer für innerhalb nur einer Sekunde 512 Messungen am Trommelfell und dem umgebenden Gewebe durch und zeigt die berechnete Temperatur an. Die angezeigte Temperatur entspricht der im Gehörgang gemessenen Temperatur nach einer Umrechnung in die üblichere, oral gemessene Temperatur. Dies geschieht mithilfe einer mathematischen Angleichung der im Gehörgang gemessenen Temperatur. Bitte beachten, dass diese Anzeige nicht unbedingt der zur gleichen Zeit oral gemessenen Temperatur entspricht. Beim Arztbesuch unbedingt darauf hinweisen, dass die Temperatur im Ohr gemessen und einen entsprechenden oralen Messwert umgewandelt worden ist. WAS IST NORMALE KÖRPERTEMPERATUR? WAS IST FIEBER? Die normale Körpertemperatur beträgt 37 C (98,6 F). Als Fieber wird eine Körpertemperatur bezeichnet, die über der normalen Körpertemperatur der Person liegt. Es ist wichtig, die normale Körpertemperatur jeder Person zu ermitteln, damit ein etwaiges Fieber zuverlässig festgestellt werden kann. Dies lässt sich einfach durch regelmäßiges Messen der Temperaturen an der gleichen Stelle des Körpers und zur gleichen Tageszeit ermitteln. Dieses Ohrthermometer wandelt die im Ohr gemessene Temperatur in einen einer oralen Messung entsprechenden Wert um und entspricht in Bezug der Temperaturgenauigkeit den einschlägigen Industrienormen. Im Temperaturbereich 36,0 C - 39,0 C (96,8 F - 102,2 F) beträgt die Genauigkeit +/-0,2 C (+/-0,4 F). Nähere Einzelheiten enthält der Abschnitt Technische Daten (S. 17). WAS IST FIEBERALARM? Durch die spezielle Funktion Fieberalarm erhält der Anwender jedes Mal, wenn eine Temperatur von 37,8 C (100 F) erreicht oder überschritten wird, eine optische Warnung im Display (düsteres Gesicht) (nur bei Speicherbetrieb) und eine akustische Warnung in Form eines zweifachen Pieptons. Bei dieser oder einer höheren Temperatur hat der Anwender VERMUTLICH Fieber. 23 D

13 Hinweis: Eine Temperaturanzeige von unter 37,8 C (100 F) bedeutet nicht, dass kein Fieber vorliegt. Auf gleiche Weise bedeutet eine Temperaturanzeige von über 37,8 C (100 F) nicht, dass mit Sicherheit Fieber vorliegt Jede Person hat eine individuelle Physiologie, und Sie sollten durch eine Kontrolle der eigenen Körpertemperatur Ihre normale Körpertemperatur ermitteln, damit Sie feststellen können, wann Sie Fieber haben. Welcher Temperaturwert als Fieber zu betrachten ist, richtet sich auch nach dem Alter. Dieses Gerät ist nicht als Ersatz für eine Konsultation des Hausarztes vorgesehen. Wenden Sie sich an Ihren Hausarzt, wenn Sie mit oder ohne Fieber eine Krankheit vermuten. Ein Besuch beim Arzt ist in jedem Fall bei einem der folgenden Zustände zu empfehlen: Erbrechen, Diarrhö, Veränderungen des Atmens, der Aktivität oder des Appetits, sowie Gereiztheit, Lethargie oder ungewöhnlicher Müdigkeit. BESCHREIBUNG DES GERÄTS EINSETZEN BZW. WECHSELN DER BATTERIE 1. Den Batteriedeckel gem. Abb. 1 entfernen. 2. Die Metall-Halteklammer der Batterie vorsichtig nach unten drücken und die Batterie herausnehmen. Keinesfalls eine Metallpinzette oder einen Schraubendreher zum Entfernen der Batterie benutzen. 3. Eine neue Batterie CR-2032 (3,0 V GS) mit dem Pluszeichen (+) nach oben gem. Abb. 2 einsetzen. 4. Den Batteriedeckel wieder anbringen. Bitte beachten, dass das Thermometer nach Einsetzen einer neuen Batterie und bis zum ersten Messvorgang den Vorgabewert 00,0 C/00,0 F anzeigt. Messspitze Abtastknopf Wenn das Symbol für schwache Batterie im Display erscheint (Abb. 3), sollte die Batterie erneuert werden. Wenn das Symbol für schwache Batterie zusammen mit der Anzeige Lo im Display erscheint, muss die Batterie erneuert werden, damit das Ohrthermometer funktioniert. HINWEIS: Die Lithium-Batterie darf nicht als Hausmüll entsorgt werden. Sie muss an einer anerkannten Sammelstelle abgegeben werden. Wenn das Ohrthermometer über einen längeren Zeitraum (drei Monate oder länger) nicht benutzt werden soll, sollte die Batterie entfernt werden. 14 SPEICHERABRUF Das Thermometer speichert automatisch die letzte Temperaturmessung. Beim Einschalten des Thermometers wird automatisch der zuletzt erhaltene Messwert angezeigt. Bei jeder neuen Temperaturmessung wird der alte Wert im Speicher automatisch mit dem neuen ersetzt. Bei Anzeige eines gespeicherten Messwerts erscheint der Speicher-Symbol in der unteren linken Ecke des Displays. Dadurch wird der Speicherabruf angezeigt. TEMPERATURMESSUNG 1. Unbedingt dafür sorgen, dass nach der vorigen Anwendung die wasserdichte Messspitze mit einem Wattebausch, der mit Alkohol angefeuchtet ist, gereinigt wird. 2. Die SCAN -Taste seitlich am Thermometer drücken und loslassen. Alle Display- Symbole werden gleichzeitig während ca. 1 Sekunde angezeigt (Abb. 1). 4. Die SCAN -Taste erneut drücken und loslassen, solange sich das Ohrthermometer noch außerhalb des Ohrs befindet. Im Display erscheint nun ein Pfeil-Symbol (Abb. 3). Abbildung 3 5. Die Messspitze des Ohrthermometers innerhalb von 2 Sekunden in den Gehörgang einführen (Abb. 4). Die einwandfreie Position der Messspitze im Gehörgang ist wichtig. Die Zeit für den eigentlichen Messvorgang beträgt ungefähr 1 Sekunde. Abbildung 4 Zeigt an, dass ein Messvorgang stattfindet. Abbildung 1 6. Das Ende des Messvorgangs wird durch einen Piepton angegeben. Das Ergebnis der Temperaturmessung erscheint im Display (Abb. 5). 3. Wenn das Ohrthermometer betriebsbereit ist, erscheint als nächstes der letzte Ablesewert im Display. Dann kann eine neue Messung vorgenommen werden (Abb. 2). 15 Wenn eine Temperatur von 37,8 C (100 F) oder höher gemessen wurde, wird der Fieberalarm ausgelöst im Display erscheint ein düsteres Gesicht und es werden zwei Pieptöne ausgegeben, um auf ein mögliches Fieber hinzuweisen (Abb. 6). EINE NIEDRIGERE TEMPERATUR BEDEUTET JEDOCH NICHT, DASS KEIN FIEBER VORLIEGT. Nähere Einzelheiten zum Fieberalarm finden Sie im Abschnitt Was ist Fieberalarm? in dieser Anweisung (S. 5). Wenn eine Temperatur unterhalb dieses Bereichs gemessen wird, erscheint Lo im Display (Abb. 7). Wenn eine Temperatur oberhalb dieses Bereichs gemessen wird, erscheint Hi im Display (Abb. 8). WICHTIGE HINWEISE ZUR TEMPERATURMESSUNG Die erhaltenen Messergebnisse sind nur für Referenzzwecke vorgesehen. Wenden Sie sich an Ihren Hausarzt, wenn Sie ein medizinisches Problem haben oder vermuten. Es ist nicht erforderlich am Ohrläppchen oder Ohr zu ziehen, bevor die Temperatur gemessen wird. Wenn weitere Messungen erfolgen sollen, bitte mindestens 5 Sekunden zwischen den Messungen warten, damit die Genauigkeit erzielt wird. Das Ohrthermometer bei Raumtemperatur benutzen, da extreme Umgebungstemperaturen die Genauigkeit beeinträchtigen können. Das Ohrthermometer immer bei Raumtemperatur aufbewahren. Vor der Anwendung muss das Thermometer mindestens 30 Minuten lang in Raumtemperatur aufbewahrt gewesen sein. Zwischen den Messungen die wasserdichte Messspitze mit einem Wattebausch, der mit Alkohol angefeuchtet ist, reinigen. Reinigungsalkohol/ mittel immer für Kinder unzugänglich aufbewahren. Unter folgenden besonderen Bedingungen empfiehlt sich, mehrere Messungen (drei oder mehr) im gleichen Ohr vorzunehmen und den höchsten Messwert zu benutzen. Bei Temperaturmessungen an Kleinkindern unter drei Monaten. Bei Temperaturmessungen an Kindern unter drei Jahren, wenn besondere Umstände vorliegen, wie eine Immunschwäche, oder wenn das Fehlen oder Vorhandensein von Fieber kritisch ist. Bei den ersten Messversuchen mit diesem Ohrthermometer und bis zum Erhalten gleichmäßiger Messergebnisse. Hinweis: Bei aufeinander folgenden Messungen können geringfügige Schwankungen auftreten (+/-0,2 0,3 C oder +/-0,3 0,5 F). Dies ist bei allen Thermometertypen normal. Die Temperatur immer im gleichen Ohr messen, da es Temperaturunterschiede zwischen den beiden Ohren geben kann. Eine Voraussetzung für eine genaue Messung ist, dass im Gehörgang keine übermäßigen Mengen Ohrenwachs oder andere Behinderungen vorhanden sind. Versuchen Sie nie, den Gehörgang zu reinigen, da Sie hierdurch das Trommelfell und das umgebende Gewebe verletzen können. Nur solche überschüssigen Ohrenwachse entfernen, dass mit einem Waschlappen erreicht werden kann. Bei Verdacht auf übermäßig viel Ohrenwachs im Gehörgang sollte ein HNO-Arzt aufgesucht werden. Auch äußere Faktoren können Einfluss auf die Ohrentemperatur haben, z. B.: Die Person hat auf dem Ohr gelegen, oder das Ohr ist verdeckt gewesen. Das Ohr ist extrem hohen oder niedrigen Temperaturen ausgesetzt gewesen. Die Person hat kürzlich gebadet oder geschwommen. Anwendung einer Hörhilfe oder Ohrstöpsel. Es empfiehlt sich, die Messung frühestens 20 Minuten nach Beseitigung dieser Umstände vorzunehmen. Das Ohrthermometer ist nur für Messung im menschlichen Ohr vorgesehen. Das Ohrthermometer ist nicht für orale, rektale oder axillare Temperaturmessung vorgesehen. D D

16 BESONDERE SITUATIONEN, IN DENEN DAS OHRTHERMOMETER NICHT ZU BENUTZEN IST Bei Schmerzen jeglicher Art während der Anwendung. Wenn Blut oder Ohrfluss im äußeren Gehörgang festgestellt wird. Bei Verformungen des Gehörgangs oder Gesichts, die ein einwandfreies Einführen des Ohrthermometers in den Gehörgang verhindern. Bei Ohrenmedizin oder Ohrentropfen im Gehörgang. Bei Ohrenentzündungen jeglicher Art. Nach dem Baden oder Schwimmen, da dann sowohl das Ohrgewebe verletzt als auch die Genauigkeit der Messung herabgesetzt werden können. Bei der Verwendung des Thermometers sollte darauf geachtet werden, dass der Gehörgang trocken ist. PFLEGE, WARTUNG UND REINIGUNG Das Ohrthermometer sorgfältig mit einem weichen, trockenen Lappen reinigen. Niemals Gas, starkes Reinigungsmittel oder Lösungsmittel für die Reinigung verwenden. Die wasserdichte Messspitze mit einem Wattebausch, der mit Alkohol angefeuchtet ist, reinigen. Niemals versuchen, einen Gegenstand in die Messspitze einzuführen. Das Ohrthermometer niemals in Wasser eintauchen, da es hierdurch beschädigt wird. Der wasserdichte Teil beschränkt sich auf die Messspitze. Das Ohrthermometer keiner extrem hohen Temperatur, Feuchtigkeit oder direkten Sonneneinstrahlung aussetzen. Das Ohrthermometer nicht zerlegen. Bei Reparaturbedarf die Anweisungen im Garantieteil dieser Anleitung beachten. Das Ohrthermometer keinen starken Stößen aussetzen und nicht auf den Boden fallen lassen. Wenn nicht in Gebrauch, sollte das Thermometer in seiner Lagerverpackung und unzugänglich für Kinder aufbewahrt werden. Batterieflüssigkeit kann beim Auslaufen Schäden verursachen. Das Ohrthermometer wird erstmalig bei der Herstellung kalibriert. Wenn das Ohrthermometer gemäß dieser Anleitung benutzt wird, ist keine regelmäßige Nachkalibrierung erforderlich. La temperatura alta prolongada necesita asistencia médica especialmente en niños pequeños. Este termómetro sólo se debe usar bajo supervisión de un adulto. Para evitar cualquier lesión, no deje que los niños caminen ni corran cuando use el termómetro. Use el termómetro de oído solamente para el uso concebido. Se debe empujar con un ligero cuidado al introducir la sonda en el oído. La fuerza excesiva puede dañar el canal auditivo o el tímpano. CÓMO FUNCIONA ESTE PRODUCTO? La unidad detecta el calor infrarrojo en el tímpano y en el tejido adyacente. El termómetro toma 512 lecturas del oído y del tejido anejo en tan sólo un segundo y presenta el cálculo de la temperatura. La temperatura presentada representa la temperatura tomada del canal auditivo convertida al equivalente oral más familiar. Esto se realiza usando un ajuste matemático de la temperatura del canal auditivo. Recuerde que esta lectura no será necesariamente la misma que la temperatura tomada oralmente al mismo tiempo. Cuando consulte a su médico, es importante informarle que la lectura de temperatura se ha tomado en el oído y se ha convertido a un equivalente oral. CUÁL ES LA TEMPERATURA NORMAL DEL CUERPO? QUÉ ES FIEBRE? La temperatura normal media del cuerpo es de 37ºC. La fiebre se define como una temperatura corporal más alta que la normal de una persona. Es importante determinar la temperatura normal del cuerpo de cada persona para poder evaluar correctamente si realmente está febril. Esto se puede determinar fácilmente tomando las temperaturas regularmente, usando el mismo oído y a la misma hora cada día. Este termómetro de oído convierte la temperatura del oído a una equivalente oral que cumple con las normas industriales referentes a exactitud de la temperatura. La Alarma Febril es una función exclusiva que avisará al usuario en cualquier momento si una lectura de temperatura es de 37,8ºC o mayor, con un aviso visual en el visor (una cara fruncida) y una alarma sonora de doble tono (alarma visual sólo en modo de memoria). Una lectura de esta temperatura o más, es POSIBLE que haya fiebre. Nota: Una temperatura menor de 37,8ºC no quiere decir que no haya fiebre. De igual forma, una temperatura mayor o igual a 37.8ºC no garantiza que haya fiebre. D ES

18 La fisiología de cada persona es diferente, por lo que deberá vigilar su propia temperatura corporal y determinar su gama de temperatura normal para poder determinar cuando tiene fiebre. La clasificación de una temperatura como fiebre también varía con la edad. Este producto no está concebido como substituto de una consulta al médico. Acuda a su médico si considera que está enfermo tenga o no tenga fiebre. Se deberá consultar al médico si existe cualquiera de las siguientes condiciones: Vómito, diarrea, cambios en la respiración, actividad o apetito, irritabilidad, letargo o sueño anormal. PUESTA Y CAMBIO DE LAS PILAS 1. Retirar la tapa de la pila como se indica en la Figura Retirar con cuidado la pila apretando sobre el metal que sujeta la pila en su sitio. Para quitar la pila no se deben usar pinzas de metal ni destornillador. 3. Poner una pila CR-2032 (3,0 V cd) con el símbolo de más (+) como aparece en la Figura Reponer la tapa de la pila. Cuando aparezca el símbolo de pila baja en la pantalla (Figura 3), se deberá cambiar la pila.cuando aparece el símbolo de pila baja con el símbolo "Lo", se debe cambiar la pila para que el termómetro de oído funcione correctamente. Cuando el termómetro de oído no se vaya a usar durante un largo período (tres meses o más), se debe quitar la pila.
