2 The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals Welcomes You to the 27th Annual Convention & Trade Show Flamingo Las Vegas, The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) is the largest nonprofit organization for the permanent cosmetic industry that is owned, operated, and controlled by its domestic and international members since its inception in The SPCP provides industry certification, distributes the SPCP V Quarterly, maintains an annual online membership directory, provides educational events and materials, and actively supports fair industry legislation. The Society has a large internet and social media presence ( as a resource for technicians and a referral source for the general public and the media. The SPCP hosts an annual convention and trade show and provides additional educational opportunities throughout the year, including Bloodborne Pathogens Standard classes provided by an OSHA outreach instructor, Train the Trainer classes (a required program for trainer members who meet and commit to the high SPCP training standards), as well as Fall Conferences. The SPCP provides a highly regarded industry certification program (CPCP) with testing available at SPCP events and similar gatherings. Only members have the opportunity to attend SPCP conventions and conferences, use SPCP registered images, and purchase valuable business resources such as client brochures, and forms for use in their business. The Society is well known for it educational materials, including a newly updated textbook, Permanent Cosmetics. 3 Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals 27th Annual Convention and Trade Show March 17-19, 2018, Pre-Convention Programs Thursday, March 15 Friday, March 16, :00 a.m. 4:30 p.m....train the Trainer Friday half day 9-12 Shanan Zickefoose, CPCP This highly acclaimed program is presented by past SPCP Director, Shanan Zickefoose, BSC, RN, CPCP. While a required class for those with a goal to become SPCP trainer members, this program is also required regularly for certified trainer members as a review. Attendees have the opportunity to network with one another and to speak on particular subjects to enrich the program with new ideas. This exchange of ideas facilitates new educational concepts and program development. Attendees of this class must be CPCP certified or scheduled to take their certification exam during the conference. Please refer to the SPCP website for other trainer member requirements or contact the office for an application packet. Attending this class does not qualify the attendee as an SPCP trainer member; additional requirements must be met. Shanan Zickefoose BSN, RN, CPCP Shanan Zickefoose BSN, RN, CPCP Shanan began her career in permanent cosmetics in 2006 and owns a medical spa practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she practices all areas of permanent cosmetics. She has been active member of the SPCP since 2007, including serving on the Board of Directors. Always driven by a challenge, she pursued and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Tulsa. Through her nursing specialties and personal family medical issues, it became clear that wound care was a passion that complimented her career and personal goals. Friday, March 16, :30 a.m. 1:00 p.m....bloodborne Pathogens Standard Class Laurna Marika This is by far the most comprehensive, industry specific bloodborne pathogens program available for permanent cosmetic professionals. The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard will be covered, with an emphasis on needlestick guidelines, Hepatitis B and C, information on MRSA, exposure control plan requirements, recordkeeping, and the latest interpretation covering these topics as they relate to the body modification industry. A bloodborne pathogens class is a requirement for the CPCP exam and renewal, and may be purchased separately for non-convention attendees. Page 3

4 Laurna Marika Laurna is an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer for 10-hour and 30-hour General Industry programs. She has over eight years experience as an instructor teaching Bloodborne Pathogens and the Principles of Infection Control for the body modification industry. Laurna has taught classes ranging from onsite small studios to larger convention seminars. As a traditional tattoo artist and co-owner of Mr. Shorty s Tattoo Emporium, LLC in Lexington, South Carolina, Laurna brings to her classes real life experience in how to introduce Bloodborne Pathogens Standard compliance into a working studio environment. Laurna Marika 2:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m....creating Form and Correcting Anatomy Kelly Mabel, MA Many have expressed an interest in advancing their skills in designing procedure work, especially areolas. Kelly Mabel - Visual Arts Department Chair and AP Studio Art Instructor of the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts will be your guide. Participants will complete multiple graphite and pen exercises to gain an understanding of how to realistically shade the sphere, which is the basic form and building block for recreating organic human anatomy. Attendants will apply this knowledge to advanced drawings that are directly applicable to complex shading of the nipple/areola, eyes, and mouth. Kelly Mabel, MA Kelly Mabel, MA A graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor s degree in Art Education and Master s Degree in Educational Administration, Kelly is currently the Visual Arts Department Chair and AP Studio Art Instructor of the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. In 2011, she initiated the National Art Honor Society LVA Chapter, and began community partnerships with local galleries and major art sponsors. Her Las Vegas Academy AP students have ranked in the top 5% in the nation for over 17 years. Kelly Burkenstock, MD In the world of permanent cosmetics we can find ourselves, as the old saying goes, painted into a corner. In that corner might be a migration, pigment out of line, bad color selection, or a minor or major Page 6

7 mistake. We may not have created the problem; but, now it is ours to solve. What does it involve? Learn about removal processes such as laser, saline, acid, or magnesium products. Dixie will provide information on the science behind these processes in order to make competent recommendation and/or train to perform these procedures. Dixie Medford, CPCP Dixie Medford, CPCP Dixie began her permanent cosmetic career in the late 1980 s and has served the SPCP Board of Directors as president. Dixie is a published author and public speaker; has been featured on ABC, 20/20, Fox 4 and NBC News. She is the founder of the Regina-C skin care line and Regina-C Gold TattX pigment remover, through which she has been seeking effective pigment removal processes with effective results and minimal scarring since She is a highly regarded trainer in removal as well as all permanent cosmetic techniques. 4:15 p.m. 5:30 p.m.... Your tour will include the most subtle of blushed lip liners, redefining the natural lip vermilion border for symmetry, and the restoration of diminished natural color. Along the way, Karen will address important information about tattooing lips for people of color, and medical tattooing of cleft lips and survivors of injuries. Karen Betts, CPCP Karen serves the SPCP as a Director and the Education and International Outreach Chair. She is a highly regarded SPCP trainer and supplier member, having spoken at several SPCP events over her twenty years in the industry. Alongside being the Managing Director of K.B Pro and Nouveau Beauty Group, one of the UK s leading academies for beauty and permanent cosmetics training, Karen has won many Karen Betts, CPCP awards which pay great testament to her hard work and contribution to the permanent cosmetics industry. 8 These include the SPCP Industry Leader Award 2015 and being crowned Woman of the Year at the prestigious 2014 Natwest Every Woman Awards, amongst many other accolades. 10:45 a.m. 12:00 p.m....the Science of Permanent Cosmetics The aesthetic specialization of the traditional tattoo through time was shaping the permanent cosmetics industry. In daily practice, this may seem predominantly technological: machines, needles, pigments, implements, etc. But deepening in any matter in this regard are the scientific bases that gave rise to innovation and development. In this presentation we will discover them, making the professional think about how this evolution took place and understanding the causes and effects that lead to the application of successful procedures. Remember that science is in everything that exists, therefore it is in permanent cosmetics. Hector Guisa, CPCP Hector is an SPCP Director and trainer member who started twenty two years ago in the permanent cosmetics industry. He has taught classes to more than five thousand technicians, and is the creator of the only tattoo school in Mexico. Hector is an Hector Guisa, CPCP author, translator, international lecturer, and creator of the most complete permanent cosmetic educational program from initial to training of instructors in Mexico. He has worked intensely to make this industry official in his country. Learn how the old pointillism technique has now become advanced through varying deposits of color, the correct touch, and a lot of patience and practice. When these brows are correctly created, the results can be outstanding. Angie Kwiatkowski, CPCP Angie Kwiatkowski, CPCP Angie is an SPCP trainer member and has been in the permanent cosmetic industry since She combines the art of facial geometry, design, and color theory to create a beautiful, natural look that she will be sharing with us. 10 door exits Taxi fare is approximately $ Roommate Requests If you would like the SPCP to help you find a roommate for the Convention, you must fill out the Roommate Request Form and return it with your registration as soon as possible or if you are registering online, please write in the notes that you need a roommate and what your check in and check out dates are. It is hard to find roommates as the convention nears. Remember February 12th is the deadline for the SPCP room rates it is better to cancel a reservation if you find a roommate than to be without a room altogether! Important Convention Information To attend the Convention, you must be a member in good standing with the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP). Convention attendance fees include all lectures, entry to vendor exhibits, three continental breakfasts, Saturday evening cash bar reception, and the Annual Members Meeting and Luncheon. Non-members may join the SPCP to attend the convention for the annual membership fee of $ This fee provides full benefits of membership, including the SPCP Quarterly and access to all SPCP products. All fees are payable at the time of registration. SPCP membership must be current to attend. If your membership expires in March, you must renew prior to registering for convention. Guest packages allow entry to the Saturday evening reception and continental breakfasts. The Monday Luncheon is extra. Guests are allowed in the vendor room and Vendor Presentation room; however, they are NOT permitted into any Sunday and Monday lecture rooms without paying the full convention fee. All mail-in registrations must be postmarked by March 2nd, After that date, you will be required to register online at Check-in will be at the registration desk in the foyer. To avoid morning crowds, we strongly recommend you take advantage of early registration on Friday evening. SPCP Booth The SPCP runs a booth at every convention for products available exclusively to our members. Members may purchase items such as colorful client brochures, the SPCP photo album, our Client Forms Pack, and many SPCP identifying products. 11 Attendee Requirements During all SPCP Presentations in consideration of and respect for speakers and other attendees: Mobile phones or other electronic devices must be on silent with vibration turned off. Key strokes must also be on silent. Videotaping or audio recording with any device is prohibited. Photography with or without flash of presentations is not allowed with any camera, mobile phone, or other electronic devices, including screen shots of PowerPoints. Use of mobile phones will be permitted during presentations only if the screens are kept flat or below the edge of the table with silent keystrokes for the purpose of: note taking, and/or texting, tweeting, or other social media posting. Keep in mind that fingernail tapping is extremely distracting. Laptop or tablet use will be permitted for note taking purposes only if the attendee is seated in the small designated area in the back of the room in order to prevent glare and distraction for other attendees. In consideration of our paid exhibitors, there is to be no sales or promotion of products or services outside the exhibitor room. No procedures of any kind may be conducted anywhere within the hotel before or during the convention dates. A name badge is required for admittance to all functions. Loss of your badge will result in a $10.00 replacement charge. Please help us eliminate the embarrassment of having to remove non-paying friends or relatives accompanying you to the lectures. Badges will be checked. An evaluation form is provided at each class. For attendees to obtain credit hours, the evaluation form needs to be turned in immediately after each class. If you arrive fifteen minutes late for a lecture or leave before a lecture is completed, you cannot receive continuing education credits for that particular lecture. Certificates will be mailed after the convention. The SPCP reserves the right to change the schedule, topics, and speakers, if necessary.
