4 GHS COMPLIANCE THE GLOBALLY HARMONIZED SYSTEM FOR HAZARD COMMUNICATION The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has decided to adopt the Globally Harmonized System for Hazard Communication (GHS) in the United States. The GHS, as the name implies, is a way of communicating chemical safety hazards in a consistent manner throughout the world. This new system utilizes Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labelling that will be identical for the same chemical no matter if it was manufactured in Europe, Asia or North America. This will not only enhance the protection of both people and the environment, but will facilitate international trade. For example---in the dental industry, many products come from the United States, Japan and Germany. Once GHS is fully enacted, health care workers will see the same type of product labels and SDS on all of the products they purchase no matter what the country of origin. OSHA has decided to do a gradual phase-in, which will make implementation of these new regulations much easier. The compliance dates are as follows: 1. Employers/End Users Currently Train employees on new labels and SDS June 1, 2016 Update labels, complete training and update hazcom program 2. Chemical Manufacturers, distributors and importers June 1, 2015 Must comply with all provisions of the final rule but can still ship remaining inventory under the old system December 1, 2015 All products must be shipped following GHS protocol Compliance Training Partners has developed several products that will assist healthcare facilities in achieving compliance with these new regulations. They include: OSHA Compliance and Infection Control Program - See page 6 GHS OSHA Manual Upgrade Program - See page 8 GHS Laminated Wall Chart - See page 9 GHS Chemical Product Labels - See page 12 Online GHS Training - See page 22 5

26 Help Shield Your Practice with Colgate Total Mouthwash Features Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) Multiple Benefits Provides 12 hours of antibacterial protection, even after eating and drinking 1 Helps reduce plaque & gingivitis 2,3^ Kills 99% of Bacteria on contact 4 Pre Procedural Rinse in Dental Office reduces cross-contamination * 1 from aerosolized bacteria by 77% >5 Reduces aerosolized oral bacteria, equally as effectively as a CHX rinse 5 Alcohol-free formula Patient acceptance great taste ^With twice-daily continued use. * When used as a pre-procedural patient oral antibacterial rinse, Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield Mouthwash will reduce cross-contamination defined as the transmission of potential oral pathogens or microorganisms from aerosols released during dental procedures using an ultrasonic scaler. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 60 participants were randomly sorted into one of four groups to test cross-contamination during oral procedures. Participants were instructed to rinse for one minute with either Cetylpyridinium (CPC) rinse, Chlorhexidine (CHX) rinse, water, or were instructed not to rinse. Participants were brought into an unoccupied dental office where blood agar plates were placed on a support board, the participants chests, and the examiners foreheads to measure dental aerosols. After an oral prophylaxis of the full mouth using an ultrasonic scaler, the plates were sent to a microbiology laboratory to detect the amount of dental aerosols measured in microbial colony-forming units. CPC and CHX equally decreased splatter microorganisms vs rinsing with water and no rinsing. CPC rinse used is a bioequivalent to Colgate Total Advanced Pro-Shield Mouthwash formula. >versus no rinsing References: 1. Data on file. Colgate-Palmolive Company. June 2013; 2. Data on file.
