3 4 IED MASTER COURSES IED Master courses allow students to be involved in conceptual and project simulations. Furthermore they have a flexible structure in terms of contents and respond more effectively to those wishing to stand out both in creativity and management. These courses are based on Italian design features: curiosity, initiative and improvement thanks to technical skills and creativity. Structured with real companies support, IED Master Courses coach students to face to the customer marketing and to build their own professional identity. Moreover these Courses offers the know-how and technical tools useful to manage the project complexity through a methodological approach. Starting from the 2015/2016 academic year the educational offer is enhanced by the addition of the following 1st Level Master s Degrees: Design, Fashion Design Management and Visual Arts (60 credits). Starting from a multidisciplinary methodology, these courses are aimed at strengthening students autonomy in the relevant fields and moulding them into professionals capable of leading a design project and managing all its associated complexities using a creative and manufacturing approach. Career opportunities for both IED Masters and 1st Level Master s Degrees include placements within organisations, design studios or agencies. Graduates are able to fulfill roles such as a professional with multidisciplinary knowledge and a significant sector-specific experience. 4 6 MASTER IN FASHION DESIGN IED Milano January year, full-time The Master course in Fashion Design aims at training explorers of fashion trends, creative professionals able to combine theoretical knowledge, innovative ideas, and ability to experiment, in order to design a highly identity contemporary style. New generations of fashion designers necessitate the ability to recognize and analyze contemporary trends in order to re-interpret them as original narratives, trying to balance an unmistakable individual creativity with consistency to fashion concept expressed by the world and market. Equally important is being able to combine these elements with a solid understanding of the design and visual culture in the world of fashion.. Methodology and Structure Through a modular training program, the participants of the Master in Fashion Design will tackle, in particular, topics designed to align and implement incoming basic skills. In parallel to the technological and practical type, participants will be involved in cultural studies that highlight the historical and sociological aspects necessary to the development of a fashion project. The entire course will engage the development of managerial capacities: predisposition to teamwork, interpersonal skills and collaboration with various sectors and companies of production of textiles and clothing. The core of the Master is represented by the creation of projects dedicated to specific product areas with strong student involvement in the design and creative development. The creation areas will be contingent to participants personal inspiration or will follow specific requests from companies involved in the program. Characterization of the Master is the involvement of professional Fashion Designer as mentor for the vertical projects. The workshops will follow the themes of the brief and will work as open laboratories where professors are reference design tutor involved through the way. The entire pathway touches from concept and vision, to research, sketching, colors, materials, assessment of economic feasibility, prototypes realization, up to the presentation and the collection narration. Target The master is aimed at graduates in Fashion Design or designers working in the field that feel the need to develop and/or update their know how using contemporary approaches in research and design. Knowledge of the techniques of Fashion Design are essential to gain access to the course (basic software fluency: Photoshop and Illustrator, drawing techniques, and tailoring...) Professional Opportunities Project by: Xiaojun Wang Graduates are qualified to work as Fashion Designers, specialists in the creative process of designing all sort of apparel collections.

5 8 PROGRAM The Master of Fashion Design intended as a creative laboratory that emphasizes the Made in Italy. The course proposes to partecipants, the opportunity to highlight their identity while acquiring specific techniques, contemporary approaches, and project methodologies. In order to enhance the creativity of participants by a project methodology, the Master is articulated in four vertical workshop dedicated to women, men, bespoke, and an experimentation project. The main strength of the course is the layout that enriches the Fashion Designers with an holistic approach from research to conceptualization and realization accompanied by their creative sensibility and strengthen by the IED project-oriented education. STUDY PLAN Fashion Culture The course explores contemporary fashion through ideas, thoughts and works of the icons who influenced the history of modern costume, and those new names who are going to write the future of fashion. Furthermore, aim of the course is for the student to gain a strong sense of image, being able to create links between different contexts and sources of inspirations. Fashion Sociology and Trends We are in continous evolution, but only few have a natural perception of the scenarios towards which we are moving, how we ll get there and which tools will be used in the next future. By studying social phenomena and processes, it is possible to work it out anticipating actions and analyzing how they are applied in the fashion world; discover what different future scenarios changes will transform the relationship between people and products, focusing on the most sensitive areas capable of reaching the largest number of accession. Design Methodology & Concept Development The course proposes an updated on contemporary methodology for an integrated development process of a creative product and leads to the adoption of results to a valid Design concept. The Business of Fashion In order to be successful, a Fashion Business must always keep a dual approach, being able to combine creativity and management, finding the most suitable way to produce and promote its products. This course introduces a merchandise related and commercial oriented approach in a collection development process. Graphic Lab The aim of the course is to make students improve a range of expertise and working methods that will enable them to work smoothly while increasing productivity. In particular, students will learn how to choose the best suitable graphic layout through the use of Adobe In-Design. The knowledge and use of these software programs can be significantly useful during projects presentations, for it helps students being more effective in the visual transmission of their ideas. Techniques supporting the vertical workshops: Personal Design Culture of Textiles Laboratories

6 10 Workshops Workshops are dedicated to the development of collection design following different themes which are related to both classical market categories, such as Menswear and Womenswear, as well as projects reflecting new trends and new designs, such as Bespoke and Contemporary. Furthermore the identity of each workshop is determined by the adhesion of a Fashion Designer/Brand operating as a consultant and providing a strong expertise. In the first two workshops the focus is clearly defined by the gender peculiarities that will be respected while visioning and developing an apparel corresponding to the brief. Bespoke Bespoke is an important contemporary theme that will be faced with a balance between design and tailoring and a contemporary research guided by an expert of handcraft tailoring methods. Last but not least, contemporary workshop will be dedicated to a contemporary necessity of a Brand Designer submitting the students a challenging brief for the ideation, planning, creation and presentation of a fashion collection. 25 Image by IED: Project Sofia Cucchi

7 12 FACULTY Coordinator Fabio Di Nicola Founder and designer for its own menswear brand since Simultaneously he deals with important companies in consulting and collaboration. He designed costumes for Wim Wenders film Palermo shooting, Ferzan Ozpetek s A perfect day ; Umberto Carteni s Diverso da chi, Stefano Salvati s Albakiara. In 2008 he designed Bologna F.C official uniform. He also collaborated with musical artists including Subsonica, Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi, and Solis Quartet. Professors IED Moda faculty is made of professionals able to teach theory and practice the use of company case-histories and project works that allow participants to concretely tackle the world of work. Some of the professionals involved in the Master: Veronica Foschi She lives and works in Milan. In 2006 she co-founded her own design studio with designer Luca Schieppati, for projects on Industrial Design and Product Engineering. As art director of the studio she is mostly involved in art and graphic productions, using both traditional and new computer art techniques, bi/tridimensional rendering, animation service and creation of interactive solutions. Emma Holborow Free-lance Designer, she works in Italy as knitwear specialist both menswear and womenswear. She also provides consultancy on knitwear-related matters for various fashion such as PierAntonio Gaspari, Fendi, CXD, Filatura Filpucci, Prada and Studio Ferré Donna. Photo by: Stefano Casati Luca Minora Freelance Tailor and Pattern Maker, he collaborates with different fashion designers and private individuals in projecting and executing prototypes and tailored clothing. He is periodically involved in the production and fitting of fashion show garments for various fashion designers and maisons during Milan and Paris fashion weeks. Lia Mondina Freelance Designer, she has collaborated with different brands such as Giorgio Armani, Max Mara and Verri, she s also consultant and researcher for textile companies as well as technical expert and developer of industrial knitting systems. Angelo Montanini He is an international renowned illustrator. He has collaborated with important publishing houses such as Rusconi, Mondadori, Longanesi, Editrice Nord, etc. Since the 80 s he deals with fashion-related illustration training activities becoming one of the major experts of the area. Serena Sala She is a sociologist and image work communications consultant, for more than 20 years has been working in fashion, and communication. She is currently working with one of the major international bureaux de style: Textilrama Decocontract Brussels, formulating forecast consumer scenarios on specific realities in the most diverse sectors. Serena also works as global image coordinator for a satellite TV channels network and is involved in the trend analysis team of Li Edelkoort Group. Her experiences have spread leading industries such as Barneys New York, Bottega Veneta, Geox, L Oreal, Luxottica, Marni and Persol, to name just a few of her cooperation.

9 16 CAREER SERVICE After meeting successfully graduated students, Career Service submits portfolios to interested companies, arranges the selection interviews aimed at activating internships (or training periods), collaborations, field projects, and ensures constant support activities. During the study pathway, IED trains students and provides them with the techniques and tools required to write their CVs, to tackle a selection interview, to realize their personal projects portfolio. The internships (or training period) is conceived as an on-site learning and training period at one of the companies collaborating with IED. This period allows the students to apply the acquired tools and knowledge to a real professional project. 10 18 PRACTICAL INFORMATION To start your admission process click APPLY ONLINE on homepage Diploma At the end of the Master enrolled students, who successfully attended at least 80% of each course, receive a IED Diploma. To get the Certificate students must pass all exams and demonstrate commitment in developing a successful final project. An examination board awards the student s final grade marked according to Italian ranking reference system (min 66, max 110 with honors). Entry Requirements The Master in Design works as a valuable specialization for Italian and international graduates who have completed a BA degree Fashion Design or equivalent qualification (a diploma issued by private schools at University level) or have a remarkable professional experience in the same field of study. Language requirements This Master is taught in English. To ensure course contents are fully understood, IED demands applicants a B2 level - equivalent to IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL IBT 68. In order to demonstrate the required language proficiency, non-native speakers have to submit a language certificate or undergo a language test run by a IED representative. Deadline Applicants are strongly suggested to complete the enrolment process at least 30 days before the beginning of the selected course. Admission Procedure As a part of the enrolment process applicants are provided with personal login details for the online admission platform - admission.ied.it. With an individual login and password applicants enter their own admission area where they can fill in personal information and upload the required documentation to be admitted onto a course. A IED advisor carefully supports students during the application, selection and enrolment processes. To be admitted onto a Master course the following documents are required: 1. Pre-enrolment form (available online within the applicant s personal area); 2. Passport or ID for EU students; 3. Motivation letter (in the language of the chosen course); 4. CV; 5. A copy of applicant s degree certificate; 6. University transcripts; 7. Portfolio. Selection Procedure The selection is based on the assessment of CV, motivation letter and portfolio. Enrolments are limited. An interview designed to assess the skills acquired during previous studies or professional experience, if any, individual aptitudes and motivation to the participation of the candidate is required. An English Language Test could be scheduled for those candidates who don t have a proper certificate. Enrolment procedure Once admitted, candidates receive enrolment form and school regulations to be signed and uploaded in the Admission Area, as well as payment receipt of enrolment fee. All these criteria need to be fulfilled to complete the enrolment process.
