1 4 Moving Wawes project by A.Papini FASHION DESIGN DESIGN YOUR CAPSULE COLLECTION DESCRIPTION Florence with a centuries-old tradition in the world of fashion and its manufacturing excellence, has an enviable international reputation in fields ranging from fashion and artistic craftsmanship to design and technological innovation. In such incomparable place sudents observe and analyze current creative realities and trends. Through this program partecipants acquire a basic knowledge of fashion history and trend research methods, as well as technical skills such as drawing, patternmaking and tailoring techniques. Students learn how to identify and interpret current trends, and acquire organization skills working as part of an international student team. All these abilities allow them to create, within the end of the course, a capsule collection as their final project. Course title: FASHION DESIGN: DESIGN YOUR CAPSULE COLLECTION Course dates: July 2nd - 20th, 2018 Class scheduling: From Monday to Friday on a full time basis (morning and afternoon), the course has a duration of 75 hours spread over 3 weeks. Location: IED Firenze Via Bufalini 6/R Level: Introductory TARGET Creative, flexible, open-minded students. People who are interested in the world of design and have no prior knowledge or experience in the discipline and want to learn and take on challenges. Skills such as drawing or sketching can be useful even if not mandatory. Applicants need to show strong motivation and the ability to work in groups

2 6 METHODOLOGY AND STRUCTURE Through an introductory investigation of the fashion scene - the most influential designers, styles, emerging personalities, future trends, the apparel manufacturing process, fashion weeks etc - students acquire the tools and guidelines related to the professional areas of fashion designing. The course teaches students how to design and coordinate a fashion collection, including the study of important pattern and tailoring techniques, in addition to textile. The theoretical notions acquired during the course are applied in the tailor lab with the aim to complete a garment as their final project. Site visits are an integral part of the program s learning experience and are designed to complement what is acquired in the classroom as well as serve as an on-going orientation to the field. s will be held by professionals working in the fashion industry. 3 8 PROGRAM The following topics are discussed during the course: History of fashion The aim of this course is to give students the tools to understand, individuate and differentiate the changes in styles and tendencies and the capacity of analyzing fashion and its most representative personalities. The concept of trend and Florence ground research the course will start with a definition of fashion and style. Particular focus is given to the importance of body communication and how it can be interpreted as an expressive symbol which conveys a unique and personal message. Furthermore students will be lead to understand the link between past and future throughout an analysis of the different elements that nowadays give the basis to a future development towards new scenarios and innovation in fashion supply chain. The capsule collection project This program introduce students to the fashion collection concept and is designed to give students the necessary skills to develop original ideas and create a collection. They learn to coordinate the various planning phases: from concept, to research, material exploration, and technical design. Students have the chance to work on the final project in partnership with an Italian fashion manufacturer or brand. The final output will be a capsule collection, developed according to the contemporary fashion trends. Fashion drawing The course focuses on the explanation and realization of a basic female/male drawing, with a particular attention on anatomy proportions and the development of graphic techniques for the draping and the patterns of the main fabrics. Pattern making and tailoring techniques The course focuses on the moulage technique. Particular emphasis is given to draping techniques of different fabrics, working directly on a mannequin. M.Giachi Technology of materials Through this course students are introduced to the main aspects of fabrics, from the fiber to the finishing, allowing them to have a general overview of the textile manufacturing processes and an understanding of the different types of fabrics. Through visits to Italian textiles manufacturers and museums students will depeen the theoretical notions acquired during the course.

PROFESSORS Costanza Menchi Graduated in Art History specializing in History of Costume and Fashion at University of Florence. She collaborates with important Florentine institutions for the conservation and promotion of artisanal cultures, especially in the fashion accessories industry. Camilla Di Biagio She began her career by organizing runway. She is specialized in event organization and shooting production, particularly for fashion exhibitions and runway shows. Some of her past collaborations include: Studio Galgano, Redstudio, Alta Roma, Stefania d Alessandro Make-up, Sergio Valente, Philip Morris Italia, You, Mandarina Duck and Bulgari. Renato Stasi Fashion Designer - Product Development Manager Academic r. Renato has been active for over 20 years in the development and production of clothing collections and related accessories.
