1. Colour confidence Every season a new pallet of fashion colours land in stores. They look wonderful on the racks, but how do they look on you? Do you ever Try on colours but don t know whether they flatter you? Shy away from colour because you don t know how to make it work in your wardrobe? Stick to the same few, boring colours? Colour is complex. Wearing the WRONG colours can make you look tired and lacklustre. It can also accentuate lines and blemishes you would prefer to hide. But wearing the RIGHT colours makes you glow. Your skin and eyes look clear and bright, and your lines and blemishes are minimized. To work out which colours suit you, you first need to understand three basic elements of colour. 6
Colour The first colour element is undertone. All colours have either a warm (yellow based) or a cool (blues based) undertone. Cool colour examples Warm colour examples Each person, considering skin, hair and eye colours is either predominantly warm or cool. The key to looking your best is choosing colours which complement your natural colouring your skin, hair and eye colours. If you wear colours with the opposite undertone to your natural colourings you tend to look lacklustre, and any lines or blemishes will be highlighted. But with the right colours, you will look radiant! 7
2 The second colour element is c larity y. All colours have either a clear and bright or a soft and subtle quality. The colours that work best for you are ones that complement your natural colour contrast. If your skin, hair and eye colours are clear, bright and higher in contrast, you need to choose garment colours that are more clear and bright. If your skin, hair and eye colours are soft, subtle and lower in contrast, you need to choose garment colours that are soft and subtle. 8
3 The third colour element is value. Colours can be light, medium or dark in value. If your natural colouring is light, meaning fair, then lighter colours will complement you. If your skin, hair and eye colours are dark, then the darker colours will suit you best. 9
To choosse your pe erfect colour range e, all three e colour e elements must be considere ed. For exam mple, both h Marcia Cross C and d Julianne Moore ha ave natural warm w und dertones in n their colouring. But their perfect colour c palettes are not the sa ame. See belo ow, Marcia a Cross ha as warm undertone u es with fair hair and skin and lightter eyes. Whereas, W Julianne Moore ha as warm underton nes with medium m hair and sk kin and me edium eyes. Colour is comp plex! But at Ask Am manda, we w make c colour sim mple for yo ou. We use u the mo ost advan nced colour system in the wo orld to ide entify yourr perfect colour c ran nge. We exp plain the basic b elem ments of colour, c esstablish yo our best colourss for cloth hing, shoes, bags, hosiery, h jew wellery, h hair and make-up, and te each you how to build a warrdrobe ba ased on the e colours that make you shin ne. You tak ke home with w you an a individu ually tailored colou ur profile to take e with you u when you go shop pping so you y can b buy and w wear colo our with co onfidence e! 10
2. Body confidence Hands up if you have a perfect body? Anyone? If you are like 99.9% of the population, you probably don t have a perfect model proportioned body. And what is a perfect body anyway? Do you wish Your bust was bigger? Your bum was smaller? Your legs were longer? Or all of the above? Most of us have issues with our bodies. The secret to body confidence is not starving yourself until you drop two dress sizes. No! It s knowing how to work with what you ve got. To understand your body, and gain body confidence you first need to understand proportions. 11
The first important consideration is your Vertical Proportions. Vertical proportions consider your leg to torso ratio. Yes, some lucky people have a perfect balance between the two (1). Some people shorter legs and longer torsos (2). Others have shorter torsos and longer legs (3) If your upper and lower body is in balance, then it is important to avoid clothes that break that balance. If your upper and lower body are not in balance, then the aim is to create the illusion of balance. 12
If your torso is shorter and your legs are longer, there are tricks to create the illusion of a longer torso creating more balance. A few of the many ways: 1. Wear a long necklace 2. Wear tunic tops over pants 3. Avoid boleros If your torso is longer and your legs are shorter, there are ways to make your legs appear longer creating more balance. A few of the many ways: 1. Wear shorter line tops and jackets 2. Higher waisted pants and skirts 3. Avoid horizontal detail on the lower body garments 13
The second important consideration is your B Shape. Body Body shapes basically compare the relationship between your shoulder, bust, waist, hip and thigh measurem ments. There are 5 basic body shapes Some people have broader shoulders and bust compared to their waist, hips and thighs as in the Inverted Triangle. Other people have narrower shoulders and bust compared to their waist, hips and thighs as in the Triangle. Some people have symmetry between the two, some with a waist as in the Hourglass, some without as in the Rectangle, others with at wider middle area as in the Oval. Regardless of which body shape you have the aim is to create the best possible silhouette. 14
By choosing garments with the right proportions, colours, lines, shapes, fabrics and details, there are ways to create the illusion of balance. With the right garments, hips can appear smaller and shoulders can appear broader and visa versa. See some of the many tips and tricks to create the best possible silhouette for your body shape. Slim the upper body with a nice deep V neckline and add dimensionn to the lower body with some volume Addd dimension to the upper body with a wide V neckline and cap sleeves and camouflage the hips and thighs with a figure skimming thus slimming skirt. 15
Your body shape has natural balance, your aim is to maintain that. Choose garments thatt mimic your natural silhouette. Create the illusion of a waist with a wide V neckline and cap sleeves, shape through the waist and an A-line skirt. Camouflage the mid section with a crossover neckline, ruching over the tummy and a loose, drapey sash tie. 16
So, Body confidence is not about a smaller bust, a flatter tummy or slimmer thighs. Body confidence is about understanding your body, then learning some tricks of the trade to accentuate your best assets and camouflage your problem areas. At Ask Amanda, we have helped hundreds of our clients slim down by simply dressing them in clothes that suit their proportions. We have also helped hundreds of clients appear taller, longer, leaner and younger by choosing clothes that truly flatter. Summary The secret to dressing with confidence is understanding which colours work for you and which garments suit your body shape. By knowing your body s proportions and natural colouring, you can work with, rather than against, them! In this special ebook, we have outlined a two step process for dressing with confidence. The two steps are: 1. Colour confidence 2. Body confidence We have helped hundreds of clients dress with confidence, so they look and feel fantastic. Perhaps we can help you too! 17
Here are what some of our clients have said about our services "As a professional business owner how I look is important to me. In the past I have made some disastrous wardrobe mistakes purchasing expensive suits that didn't work for me - though I could never work out why. Now I do know why - under the guidance of Ask Amanda Image & Style Consultants one-onone coaching program my wardrobe now reflects my style and personality, I make better purchasing decisions and know how to maximise my wardrobe. Shopping is so much easier for me as I am really clear about what works and what doesn't. Thanks a million - you have saved me both time and money...not to mention feeling great too!" Judith, business owner Thank you Ask Amanda, this has been a lifetime investment. Discovering my personal style has helped me regain my self esteem, my femininity, my youth and my spark. I can now dress my post-baby body with more confidence and flair than ever before. Shopping is fun again. Never underestimate the power of looking your best and the response it will elicit from those around you - even perfect strangers! My greatest compliment came when my husband decided to freshen up his wardrobe to keep up with his 'young and sexy wife'. " Lois, mother and online business owner I went through Ask Amanda s full program - The Ultimate Makeover - Colour Direction, Make up Tuition, Personal Style, Wardrobe Planning, Wardrobe Auditing and Personal Shopping. The The Ultimate Makeover helped me to develop a new look that authentically represents me but which also suits my business.
