4 Structure of the skin EPIDERMIS DERMIS HYPODERMIS To better understand how YALODÉ cream acts, it is important to know the structure of skin, which has three layers. The external layer of the skin is called Epidermis, which acts as a barrier against external influences. The Epidermis is a complex structure with four layers between the Base layer, the deepest one that separates the Epidermis from the Dermis and the Stratum Corneum, the most external one that interacts with the environment. All the layers of the Epidermis contain two important substances: Hyaluronic acid and Ceramide, which strengthens the skin barrier s function. 5 The middle layer of skin is the Dermis. This layer contains abundant amounts of Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic acid. The Collagen fibers develop the structural integrity of skin. During youth, the tissues are firm, full and elastic because of the high concentrations of Hyaluronic acid present. Over the years, the adhesion between The Epidermis and Dermis is reduced, resulting in a loss of compactness and elasticity. The study of skin aging mechanisms has traditionally neglected an important area: the adhesion layer of the epidermis and dermis. The production of Laminina decreases over time, causing a reduction in the contact between the Epidermis and Dermis with a consequent loss of skin structure and elasticity.
