3 welcome the skin care revolution As I write this the girls in the office are getting so excited that the forecast tomorrow is going to be 30ºC, yeah summer is nearly here. Then comes a moment of deflation as tomorrow is Wednesday so we ll all be inside most of the day! That does not deter them for long however, as I hear them making plans for a sunny, beach based weekend. I know they ll not be alone in creating a plan, after all, we re a nation of sun lovers and the great outdoors, particularly appealing being a day at the beach. At this point we should all be rubbing our hands with glee, because it s only logical they ll all be flocking to our doors to buy their sun protection products, right? It makes perfect sense, if the number one concern of customers today is ageing, and the sun is the major contributing factor, then every client will be heavily investing in protecting their skin from the ravaging effects of U.V. being not only visible wrinkles and flaccid skin, but uneven, blotchy pigmentation. A sunscreen (SPF30-50) remains the most effective anti-ageing product on the market today. And let s not forget that the sun causes between 95 and 99% of all skin cancers, so we certainly don t want any of that! So, what on earth is going on? Why are professional skin centres not seeing the massive spikes in U.V. product sales? We know that every single client needs a facial moisturiser or treatment product with an SPF of between 15 and 50, ideally 30 to 50, they also need a body product with the same protection. Perhaps the reason is because we have a secret agenda, we want to sell more anti-ageing treatments and products to our clients therefore if we sell them sun protection products we are shooting ourselves in the foot (so to speak). I certainly don t believe that s the case. So, the only logical conclusion is that it comes down to a few simple things; 1. Our clients need better education regarding up to date information on multifunctional treatment products, ones that not only address the signs of ageing but also protect the skin from the damaging effects of UV. This includes the use of effective sunscreens as well as vital anti-oxidants, all found not in heavy, sticky, highly fragranced sun creams of old, but in fantastic highly advanced, multipurpose formulas such as performance moisturisers and serums. The best thing is you have all of these incredible products at your fingertips being available within every one of our product systems. 2. We need to be more proactive in asking our clients how they are protecting their skin, and as their skin expert, not allowing them to get away with using inferior or abstaining from U.V. protection. 3. We must live by our professional skin therapist code and not only talk the talk but walk the walk, by being proactive and vigilant in using sun protection ourselves. I believe it s time to start a skin care revolution this summer. Every single one of your clients needs your help, you can fight back, you can create the change, make the difference in your clients short term and long term skin health. You cannot only sell them the world s leading anti-wrinkle products, you can also be instrumental in saving lives, simply by saying no. No, you can t get away without using a sunscreen. No, wearing a hat is not enough. No, sitting in the shade won t protect you.
