Easter Egg Hunt This year s Easter egg hunt will be held on Saturday, March 27th, the week before Easter. Time will be 12 p.m. 4 p.m. The actual egg hunt will begin at 2:00 p.m. allowing for everyone to get there. Games, prizes, contests, crafts, face-painting are some of the fun things planned. Volunteers are desperately needed for this event. Without volunteers, this event will not be able to take place. If you can help, if only for a couple of hours, please contact Janet Walden at Christmas Yard Winners Better late than never!!! Kudos to the following residents for their hard work in decorating their yards for Christmas. May the reason for the season never end! Residents Roger Toler and To d d Pa r s o n s play in the band, Beyond Reason. Their band is great and plays anything from country to rock and oldies as well. I recently was Roger Toler, left hand side, Todd Parsons, wearing vest. invited to hear them play at Rockwell s Tavern on Telge Road. Not only does Rockwell s hire A+ bands, but they are a family oriented business, meaning you can bring your kids and they also serve up some delicious food as well. From the first beat of their first song, I was hooked. Their band consists of about 11 members so that if one is out, the band will never have to cancel. They are available for get togethers, weddings, and many other functions. They also just recently played at Janice and Roger s church. The group played Bluegrass Gospel Music. Now that was a real treat since you don t hear too many of those old songs in churches these days. If you get the chance, head on up to Rockwell s tavern and listen to them play. Not only will you enjoy the music, but you and your family will enjoy the restaurant as well. Congratulations Ken and Carolyn Maniscalco recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on February 27th. At the time of this writing, they weren t sure how they would be celebrating. Home Invasion I really dreaded having to include this in the newsletter, but I felt that all residents need to be aware of what is going on in the community. has always been a great place to live and still is. Crime is running rampant around us and other than a few cars being broken in to, minor damage at the pool and a couple of home burglaries, EV has never faced anything like a home invasion. One morning in early February, a resident awoke to find a man standing over her with his hand over her mouth. His face was covered and he never spoke a word. The resident struggled and managed to set off her panic button on her nightstand and scare the intruder away. He managed to get away without a trace. This is very scary and should be taken seriously. The days of leaving anything unlocked or unattended are gone. Please be aware of your surroundings. Meet and greet your neighbors and watch out for each others homes. If you are the least bit suspicious do not hesitate to call the constable or sheriff s office. Intruders do not like noise. If you have a burglar alarm set it daily. Get a dog! (those little ones are like dynamite in small packages!). If you do not have an alarm system I have someone who can install them for free from ADT (just send me an and I ll give you the information). Our area has also experienced several other issues including a robbery at the Valero (across from the old Shoshone Feed Store 290 & Cypress N. Houston) where a CFISD bus drivers husband was forced by gunpoint to crawl on his hands and knees to the back of the store. Everyone s wallets, jewelry and anything else of value was taken along with the store being robbed. Thank goodness, no one was hurt. There have already been several reports of people being robbed in the parking lot at the Wal-mart and movie theatre in the Spring Cypress area. Passwords Wanted to share with you one more bit of disturbing info. Recently a resident received an from their ISP (internet) provider (ex: AOL, Yahoo, Google Mail, etc) requesting information regarding their account. They were told that two of their accounts had not been used very much lately and that they needed to reply and let them know if they wanted their accounted deleted and if not, they needed their password as well. DO NOT EVER, I REPEAT DO NOT EVER GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE REQUESTING IT OVER THE INTERNET. This resident thought it was strange but complied anyway. That s why God gives you gut feelings! If you don t feel it s right DON T DO IT!!!! An was sent to everyone in their address book asking for money because they were stranded in England. It was signed by the resident. When the resident found out about it, all his contacts were missing. He then had to go in and try to change the password on those accounts. If any of you know anything about changing passwords, BEFORE they will change them, they send an to your address to see if it is ok.another brick wall. Luckily for him, she did not have any bank account info on there or he could have lost a lot of money as well. I would like to hope that most of you will check to see if that person is alright BEFORE sending money to anyone, anywhere. We work hard for our money. Don t fall for these scams and lose it all. That s why cardiologists at Baylor College of Medicine say knowing your cardiac risk factors and your family medical history could save your life. Cardiac trouble comes in a wide range of symptoms, said Dr. Hamid Afshar, assistant professor of medicine at BCM. We have to listen to what our body is saying and know our family history of heart disease. Possible symptoms include discomfort or pain in the chest, shoulders, arm or even jaw, Afshar said. Symptoms can also include palpitations, lightheadedness or fatigue because of lack of oxygen being pumped throughout the body. Sometimes these symptoms can be caused by something unrelated to the heart, like a pulled muscle, but if you have cardiac risk factors and experience any of the wide range of symptoms, it is a sign that you need to see a doctor. Cardiac risk factors include family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, high triglyceride levels and smoking. Treating and recognizing symptoms early is important and can help prevent a major cardiac event. Getting The Ink From Under Your Skin People often get tattoos in memory of loved ones, as a sign of rebellion or just to be cool. They don t always think about the health risks or the fact that they may one day regret their decision. If not done properly, the most common health risks are scarring, allergic reactions, and Hepatitis C, said Dr. Ramsey Markus, an assistant professor of dermatology and director of the dermatology laser center at Baylor College of Medicine. Allergic reactions are particularly bothersome as they are often chronic, itchy and difficult to treat. There s no cure for Hepatitis C, which is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis C virus. Infections can occur in new tattoos, so be sure to follow the after-care recommendations. Removing a tattoo is often more expensive than getting it in the first place. Dermatologists at Baylor College of Medicine use one of the safest and fastest tattoo removal lasers available. The treatment takes a few minutes depending on the size and color of the tattoo. The number of sessions depends on the color of the ink, its density and how deep the tattoo is placed. Before getting a tattoo, people should think about whether or not it s worth it in the long run, Markus said.
