2 COVER STORY Source: Thai Rice Exporters Association THE LANDSCAPE OF BEAUTY: THAILAND JEWELRY INDUSTRY AND ITS MAIN TRADE PARTNER Most of Thailand's major trading partner, both export and import, is the same group of countries, including Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, the EU, USA, China and ASEAN countries. However, the ratio of the value of export is higher than import in January 559 compared to January 558. In 558 December, the total value of gems and jewelry exports to EU has fallen down by 8.0%. Though impacted by the declining in overall jewellery export, the total value exports to EU still was categorized as the number one major market compared to the export to the EU in January last year in which the overall export decline. For the import section, jewelry and accessories from Switzerland have toppled the number of 5 million US dollars. This output shows that there is an increasing proportion in the import market. The additional amount indicates 7.9% which shows the popularity of Switzerland jewelry industries in Thailand. By considering the total value in the export section, the research has found that most of the products are mainly sent to main trade partnership countries in an equal amount. But for the import section, as mentioned before, most of the jewelry that Thai has been importing are from Switzerland, one of our main international buyers. Comparing between each country, not only that Switzerland is the main supplier of western jewelry, the country also stands in the front row when talking about jewelry export from Thailand. Source:

However, there are some markets in other countries that still in need of Asian jewelry. There are some that still consider jewelry as their main interest. Thai SMEs may have a tough time trying to sell their product, so the government should come in and help them to stand on their own feet.
