2 The look: Like a flower garden Kathy Moberly, Faces by KLM Although she travels around the country as a makeup artist, Kathy Moberly calls Indiana home. In February, she opened a studio in Greenwood, fresh off working the IVANAhelsinki and Richie Rich shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. After 28 years in the industry, Moberly says the hectic schedule is nothing she can t handle. I don t work aday in my life, she said. It s ablessing to do what Ilove and get paid for it. Jerrels appreciates both the functional and glamorous aspects of makeup; in fact, she notes one of the most common mistakes women make is to not wear enough of it. Makeup can t work if you re wearing next to nothing, she said. One of her favorite looks: defined eyes, but please, Jerrels pleads, remember to blend, blend, blend. Best advice she s ever received: My grandmother, when she was about 80, said to me, I never go anywhere without my lipstick. I have never had issues with dry lips, and besides, you never know who you will run into a priceless statement from a single 80-year-old woman. Beauty must-haves: MAC lip moisturizer, concealer and a good foundation primer. Spring/summer forecast: Glamorous in afresh new way. Think more eyeliner and bright lips in a coral, red or pink. I had good ideas and found that makeup was really my knack, she said. Today, Oswalt does freelance work for Bobbi Brown, Pur Minerals, Smashbox and Chanel. Over 15 years, she s witnessed the transformation from the face of the working woman to perfection beauties, thanks to Photoshop. Inspiration: Aselfproclaimed image junkie, Oswalt watches 1960s movies like Danger Diabolik and Barbarella. It s so important to limit sun exposure. Beauty basics: Bobbi Brown concealer, NARS eye shadow, Chanel nude lip liner. Biggest makeup mistake women make: Not matching their foundation to their skin. Trend to try: Bold lips. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics features a great product called Lip Tar that comes in dozens of funky colors. Best advice she s ever received: My grandmother is 97 years old and has fantastic skin. She never smoked, never drank coffee, rarely drank alcohol and never went out in the direct sun. Top drugstore find: e.l.f. products. Some of them are only $1 their lip glosses are fabulous and have a wonderful scent. Info: redcarpetreflection.com. Eyes: Bobbi Brown kohl black eyeliner. Apply the eyeliner close into the lash line with afull sweeping stroke and wing it up toward the outer corner of the eye for that Audrey Hepburn effect. Lips: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Hoochie: A very bold magenta. Apply a little foundation to the lips before applying this color. Use a lip brush for accuracy. Start lining the lips with the Lip Tarcolor, then fill in with the rest of the color inside the lips. If you make amistake, clean up with alittle makeup remover on acotton swab, and then go over with abit of concealer above the lip line to keep the lip color from traveling into the fine lines. Face: Revlon Colorstay Mineral Mousse foundation; Revlon Age Defying Spa Face Illuminator in No. 20 Pink Light. Model: Lauren Dodge. Danielle Wilson, the Makeup Studio by Danielle Wilson Like many little girls, Danielle Wilson s interest in makeup came from watching her mother apply cosmetics. It was the 80s and she always wore a lot of makeup, Wilson said. Today, Wilson works as afreelance makeup artist in the television and film industry. I always knew I wanted to do something in the arts, she said. Best tip: Mix three parts filtered water with one part glycerin or aloe juice. Use it as aspritzer to lock in moisture and set makeup. Store in the refrigerator for a cooling, soothing and inexpensive setting spray. Must-have products: MAC foundation it s very buildable. Anything from the Chanel line is nice, and I love the Shadow Insurance eye primer by Too Faced. Top drugstore find: Revlon Colorstay foundation. It s flawless! Trick of the trade: For ahint of sheer to your concealer, add an illuminating eye cream. It brightens and thins the texture. Trend to try: Pastel colors, especially on the eyes. Techniques: A little trick Ilike to do is spray MAC Fix + onto my brush and buff itinto the skin on top of foundation to help sheer it out and give it aboost of radiance. Using an eye primer to prep the lid before applying eye shadow will lock in the shadow and make it last all day without creasing. Raised by flower children on a 16-acre private island near Vancouver, British Columbia, Moore explored a number of professions before settling on makeup artistry in Indianapolis. Her unconventional background no doubt played a role in her career. Beauty is a fascinating thing. I m drawn to it and love finding it in the mundane, Moore said. A flower child in her own right, she believes her ultimate goal is to spread beauty and soften the world but that doesn t mean she underestimates the power of agood lip stain. Best advice: There is beauty in simplicity. Less transformation is better on time and not appearing as though you tried too hard. Find your natural beauty and play it up through fundamentals such as keeping your brows full. Take only the stray hairs away instead of over-shaping. Inspiration: I m a fan of telling a story through makeup. I m inspired by style and beauty but not fashion I ll go there, but fashion is trendy and I would much rather marry other decades. The look: A fresh face; soft, smudgy neutral eye; wellgroomed, full brows; with the main focus on amore bold matte warm-weather color for the lips. Eyes: EyeMAX creme shadow in Tip Taupe, softly smudged along the lower outer corner of the eye. Lips: Stila Long Wear lip color in exhilarating + outrageous. We are seeing areturn to some of the more matte-textured lips from the 90s, in updated colors. Apply to smooth, well-hydrated lips. Face: Armani Face Fabric Foundation SPF 12. It s a natural, more matte-textured foundation for longer wearability in warmer months. Anastacia Brow Wiz pencil to further extend the full brows. I like this pencil for its ability to sketch individual hairs on skin for amost natural look. Finally, I lightly contoured the face with a bronzer and set with translucent (powder). Model: Kessara Dhana, from Helen Wells. Top drugstore find: Revlon Illuminance eye shadow in the Not Just Nudes palette. I like them because the skin on my eyelids isn t as smooth as it was when Iwas younger and these leave a natural, smooth finish. Trick of the trade: Apply a little translucent powder to take down shine on your forehead and nose, and also abit under the lower lash line. It absorbs excess moisture, which avoids running mascara or liner through the day. Trend to try: Lip stains are great, especially in colors like pink, berry, orange sort of that 70s look, more sticky than glossy. Info: The look: Bright, warm spring Eyes: Cream eye shadow base in Apricot Frost; loose mineral eye shadow in Sunset, Blackout eyeliner, black mascara (all from EyeMAX). Lips: EyeMAX Lip Love. Face: Faceatelier foundation; MUD creme blush in Tulip. Inspiration: The warmth and brightness of spring. I wanted color that was going to fit her skin tone and make her natural beauty stand out. I chose to focus on avariety of orange hues. Technique: I added a little color and shimmer to brighten the eyes, while lining them with black liner and applying a sheer cream blush to the apple of the cheeks. Iwanted (the lips) to stand out from across the room. I chose a bright, semi-matte orange that also looks great with her skin tone. Model: Sheila Vish. Sarah Jackson, EyeMAX Sarah Jackson has always been interested in visual expression. She was studying art therapy at Herron School of Art &Design when she decided to change direction and became a licensed esthetician. I was already working with makeup and skin care as an esthetician and was intrigued by the fashion industry, Jackson said. After working with Chanel and MAC, Jackson joined EyeMAX, a Broad Ripple makeup studio that opened last fall. Inspired by makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, who died in 2002, Jackson is passionate about teaching others. Beauty is supposed to be fun. Iwant to make it as least intimidating to people as possible, whether it s helping someone to find the best treatment for their acne to teaching young girls how much eye shadow to wear, Jackson said. Best advice: Stay out of the sun and wear SPF every day. In years to come, you ll thank yourself. Trend to try: Bronzy sun-kissed skin, matte lips and asmoky eye. For aspring spin on smoky eyes, use playful colors in place of the charcoal look. Must-have beauty product: Never underestimate the power of a great self-tanner.
