V9N 7J3 Web: Our Family would like to extend, a big welcome to our new and independent Bulls from the Heart 2019 Sale. Our appreciation & thanks to you and your family s interest and trust in our program through previous sales over the years, has given us the confidence and resolve to make this happen. We are also excited to have in our sale, a truly strong Black bull offering from a cow herd that we have, on shares, with our good friends at U2 Ranch. As always, our focus remains our commercial cow/calf producer, and their ability to annually improve their bottom line. Part of how we develop and breed out our program is from customer feedback, with the greatest concern towards understanding their markets and how our customers are using our bulls for the most benefit. As many of our home ranch visitors can attest, we have a very robust, balanced, & progressive cow herd where feet & udders are paramount. This allows us to produce consistent strong sire groups from across our herd each year. They specifically push efficiency on grass and feed conversion; lowering the producers cost/lb of gain. If you are in the market for one or many bulls, we can accommodate your needs. Our drive remains the perennial quest to produce easy fleshing, muscular cattle, all with easy calving high maternal traits on a great foot, lending to strong offspring performance & profitability. We invest heavily in walking Sires ourselves and we rarely use any AI unless on previously proven bulls, so this ensures we are A: offering bulls that are dependable with real world functionality, and B: we can stand behind both the fertility and genetic traits. These bulls have been fed responsibly with their future longevity foremost in mind through muscle, shape, and the intention to have the necessary condition to go to work in your herd this year. We feel this is our most consistent and strongest group of bulls we have brought to town yet. They are ranch ready! 4 ULLS FROM It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Annual Bulls from the Heart Sale. Brad, Aleta & family run a top notch program on the Island at Heart of the Valley Farms and were the host of the very successful Canadian Angus National Convention Hoedown on the Pacific this past spring. Sure, was a great time! This year, changes have happened for the Bull Sale and a new venture was created, but what hasn t changed is the quality of the bulls on offer, from Heart of the Valley. The Chappell s stand behind their product and are always willing to work with new owners on their purchases. Do visit with him and be prepared for a good Heart to Heart! The Red Angus bulls have some serious herdsire candidates being out of some breed leading Sires such as Bono and Copenhagen. These Red Angus bulls have good hair coats, disposition, and great feet and are very marketable bloodlines. CALVING EASE GUIDE Calving Ease is often related to the birth weight of a bull, and while this is partly true, there are other factors that influence CE. The dam and her management are at least 50 to 60 of the CE. The consistency & consideration of the following will also influence birth weight. * BW s of the sire and dam * BW epd * CE & Maternal CE epd * Sires calving inclinations * Sires physical confirmation * Nutrition, gestation, environment & latitude * Breed composition * Hybrid vigour We rate each bull in the sale based on our recorded information & personal knowledge of our herd. Each year, one of the more frequent questions is which of bulls will work best on their heifers? Of course, only that person inherently knows their own heifers enough to make that call. We try our best to evaluate each bull in our sale to assist you in your choices, using our guidelines of: 4 New to this year s event is a group of Black Angus bulls that Heart of the Valley has a shared interest in, and this will enhance the sale with their customers looking for some thick, heavy muscled Black Angus bulls, with another set of breed leader sires, Syndicate, Coalition & more. All the bulls can be seen at U2 Ranch at Coaldale, Ab. For viewing up to March 24th, before they make their way to Williams Lake, B.C. We at OBI have seen the product first hand and will be in Williams Lake, one day prior to the sale and are ready to discuss potential herdbulls or commercial bulls with you. In our never ending quest to provide the most complete and representative selection data on our Red Bulls, we are publishing both Individual Performance & Percentiles against the Canadian Red Herd. As there are, at this time, numerous comparable systems using different base mathematical models to achieve varying sets of EPD numbers, we felt it was in our customers interests to simply present the raw percentile ranking in comparison to the national herd. Our Black Angus Bull offering will include the historical, broadly known, Angus One EPD s from the CAA.
