4 Izia: the signature fragrance of Isabelle d Ornano zia, pronounced Ijia, is a Polish diminutive for Isabelle. Handwritten letters signed by Isabelle d Ornano to members of her family are peppered with these two sing-song, childlike syllables. The Izia fragrance was imagined while strolling in the garden of a house in the heart of the French Loire valley, not far from where the writer George Sand lived. Isabelle d Ornano embellished the surrounding garden with shrubs, cedars, hydrangeas, honeysuckle, wisteria and sculptures. When Isabelle created the garden, she also planted roses, little knowing that one day one of them would inspire the distinctive notes of Izia. These roses, sheltered from the wind by the trees, reserve their sweetest scent for the moment when they are cut. Their label faded over time, they do not have a name, but this mystery renders them even more beautiful and alluring.

5 The unique roses of Izia resh, untameable and unique like the rose of the little prince, they imbue the first hours of the day with their fragrance and fill the air with a long-lasting citrus freshness. Isabelle d Ornano always preferred to see them cut in a vase, a teapot or an old carafe filling every corner of the house with their charm. She would wrap them in moistened newspaper and take them back, then leave them to bloom in her Parisian apartment or give them as an enchanting gift. Lush and luxurious petals would open one by one to reveal a golden centre; this was the perfect moment to appreciate their unmistakable scent. Izia captures the essence of these roses that only flower for two weeks in late May : their perfume in a bouquet. Izia is as free and bold as a shower of roses.

7 The most intimate memories of Izia sabelle d Or nano would have loved to present these gold-f lecked roses to Dolly R adziwill: the beloved aunt from whom she lear nt so much. Immortalised in a drawing by Alex-Ceslas Rzewuski, she held court in the heyday of the Russian Ballet and shared a close friendship with the famous socialite and artist, who was Isabelle d Ornano s g reat uncle. A writer, and a friend of Misia Sert, Jean Cocteau and the surrealists, Rzewuski was an aristocrat born into families in Ukraine and Poland. the oldest

8 During the inter-war years, he became a Dominican monk, but he did not cease his regular visits to Dolly Radziwill s home on the Parisian Boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg, where Isabelle d Ornano stopped for tea each day with this elegant lady who, until her dying day, used to say, I must order a haute couture dress ever y year, because being buried in a dress that is not from the season is unthinkable. The inef fable memor y of Dolly R adziwill and her second husband, the famous Danish garden architect Mogens Tvede, lives on in the Izia frag rance. An architect and the master craf tsman behind some of Europe s most beautiful gardens, his passion for nature, is equally prominent in Izia s garden as in his watercolours.

9 Five roses make a bouquet; five women created Izia. zia tells the story of five women united by one irreducible fragrance. Along with Isabelle d Ornano, Amandine Clerc-Marie, Christine d Ornano, Quentin Jones and Sonia collectively created Izia as one would sketch a work of art. A masterpiece in itself, it evolved thanks to luck, various talents and shared affinities, with the finished piece reflecting the spirit of our times.

10 I,I sabelle, d O rnano Amandine Clerc Marie I zia embodies that moment during the month of May when a woman received a bouquet in Paris. The bouquet was sent by Isabelle d Ornano to Amandine Clerc- Marie, with a note asking her to recreate its unique scent. Izia is the brief moment before the rose wilts; it is the perfumer who understands its every petal. At home, Amandine Clerc-Marie waited for the flowers to blossom. Day after day, she learnt every facet of their character and every evocative nuance by heart, mastering their natural aromatic harmonies so that she could faithfully transpose their original scent into a contemporary fragrance.

11 C hristine, d O rnano Quentin Jones ducated at the University of Cambridge er mother s daughter in many respects, Christine d Ornano has a passion for and knowledge of modern art. She chose her friend Quentin Jones, an English artist, to bring the image of Izia to life. Step by step, they worked together to devise this image of the fragrance including a visual and then a film. Isabelle d Ornano s great-niece Sonia embodies Izia in a collage inspired by both surrealism and neoclassicism. and at Saint Martins School of Design, artist Quentin Jones lets her imagination run wild in graffiti, collages, and videos where she sets the stage for herself. For Izia, Jones tied the romance of roses into an enlightened patchwork where the tenets of street art mingle naturally with surrealistic graphic design. Sonia, a Botticellian beauty, is framed by a hanging ring of gold. Love my rose is a nod to the words that Isabelle d Ornano spontaneously embroiders on her tapestries, like living paintings placed on cushions to create a collage

14 Izia is an olfactory work of art t opens with highly sophisticated top notes: white bergamot from Calabria, accentuated with hints of freesia and tea, introduces brilliance and clarity, which are emphasised with aldehydes. With its lemony, sparkling facets, pink peppercorn subtly enhances the uplifting bergamot. Izia s exuberant soul is a lifelike individual rose, shaped by the perfumer like a sculpture to reveal a lemony floral heart with refreshing notes of pear, exalted by a luminous whisper of fresh petals of jasmine, peony, and lily of the valley. Vibrant, green angelica adds powdery, leafy nuances to the bouquet. In the base notes, the d Ornano Rose accord is highlighted by enveloping, powdery musk, which linger in an incredibly feminine way. The woody warmth of cedar provides structure, while the drydown note of amber, both masculine and feminine at once, transcribes a modern sensuality. 15 A bouquet in a bottle t is with the greatest care that we assemble each petal. The bottle, with its rose tints and golden facets, was designed by Polish sculptor Bronisław Krzysztof, under the direction of Isabelle d Ornano. An abstract piece comprised of two glass sculptures placed one upon the other, the work brings Isabelle s vision to fruition.
