Editor s Note Putting together this mini magazine has been an amazing experience. Not only did it confirm that this is exactly what I want to be doing with my life, but it gave me a chance to actually get the feel for what I hope to be doing one day soon, but on a much larger scale. I was able to collaborate with some cool people, each of whom I want to personally thank for taking part in this magazine. I have a feeling that this may be the beginning of something, which is pretty cool considering it was only supposed to be a summer school project so I could graduate. 5 Grace Rountree, 24, of Houston, Texas, also known as the colorful and straightforward danger0usperson on her social media sites and YouTube channel, has never been one to sugar coat the truth of the matter. Despite her petite build and ever- changing cotton candy hair, the 24 year- old is a force to be reckoned with, upfront and honest to her 34,000+ YouTube subscribers about everything from sex to plastic surgery to the recent passing of her mother. There is no subject off limits to the vibrant Texan, which surely plays a part in her successes on the Internet. Sitting down with the currently gray- blonde beauty, Rountree opens up about her channel, staying true to her self, and being a role model to younger girls. Tell me about yourself, your Instagram, and your YouTube. Grace Rountree: My name is Grace, and I just turned 24 years old. I try to keep my Instagram and YouTube more focused just on life in general, instead of only focusing on beauty stuff. I love makeup and fashion, however, there are also so many other things I love. I try to have my social media reflect that. I never want to come across as some sort of internet celebrity or person who is only into themselves. I want people to feel like they can relate to me or that they can turn to me if they need anything. So far I think I ve done a great job at that. I receive messages and s almost daily from young people who are going through tough situations and are wanting someone to talk to. I have gone through quite a bit the past few years and I have made that no secret online, and I think people respond well to that. They feel like we are equals and they see that I 7 am also human. When did you start YouTube and why? What were your first videos about? I started my YouTube about 5 years ago. However, I wasn't very active at the beginning. My first few videos were makeup related only, the generic beauty stuff, but I took numerous breaks from YouTube during my first few years. What is the direction your YouTube channel is going in? What are you posting and why? I m honestly not sure. Some days I want to quite all social media due to the personal grief I m currently dealing with. Yet other days, I am blown away by Grace doing one of her #OOTDs the love and support I receive online. I typically post vlogs the most, which are day in the life type videos. I enjoy both watching and creating them. It s very cool to be able to look back and watch old vlogs and see special moments from a previous day that I d maybe forgotten about. What goals do you have for your YouTube? I just want to have fun with it. I don t want to take it too seriously. I want to enjoy it. However, if I had to choose one goal I would say it would be to continue to be true to myself, and to not get too jaded by all of the sponsorships that come along with it. Be true to my viewers and truthful about my opinions and intentions. Do you prefer YouTube or Instagram? Why? I really like Instagram because I love taking photos and always have. I think Instagram is a genius idea and I hope it never fades out! I love looking back at old photos of me and my family and friends. Who is your core audience and why do you think it's them? Young females, probably around ages 15 to 20something. That age group seems to be really into YouTube at the moment. The ages vary, but the core audience is probably around that range. 8

6 What do you want people to take away from your videos? 5 Summer Trends That there is more to life than makeup and clothing, or being pretty. That people can pull through it, and that being supportive and helpful to others in those times is important. Best and worst things about being a YouTuber? The best thing is meeting new people and friends, being a role model and helping and inspiring others to be positive and pull through tough life situations. The worst thing is that some people think just because they ve seen a 10- minute video about my day that they know everything about me, my life, and my personality. People are quick to judge and people can be cruel at times. What's been the coolest experience meeting or interacting with a follower or subscriber? I meet viewers and followers all the time! A lot of my viewers like my boyfriend s band, so they attend the shows or they go to the shows because it s a safe, non- creepy, and easy way to meet me! I also tend to meet people at my job. I work at a beauty store called Ulta, and a lot of my viewers love Ulta, so I often meet viewers there. What is your advice for someone wanting to start a successful channel? To be yourself. To be true to yourself. It sounds so cheesy, but it s true. Try to have fun, and don t take the critics too seriously. What, above all, has grown your Instagram and YouTube the most? It s happened as I ve been growing older. I m starting to realize that I am a role model to some people. Realizing that people look up to me, it blows me away daily. I met a mom and her 9- year- old the other day that loved my videos. I was so amazed that a 9- year- old watched them! I felt so cool! (laughs) Stay cool in the summer heat wearing a belly-baring cropped top. What was once considered street clothes, is now chic! 7 What are your favorite mediums to use? I m not that good at it, but I love using spray paint. I think it s really cool and easy and fast. I d like to get more into it, but what I ve been using it for on Los Tres Heroes by S tephen C. Gunter, 22 it s rare that I like a painting I ve done to be honest, but it s painting I did called A On a Friday night in mid- July, twenty- two year old Stephen C. Gunter of Keller, Texas is sitting on a bar stool next to a table, in front of a small collection of his paintings. Gunter is an artist and has been chosen to be featured at an art show held by the Gas Monkey, among a select number of other talented artists, designers, small businesses, tattoo artists and creators. Gunter only began his art career less than three years ago, and this is sure to be one of the first in a series of successes by the young artist. Following the art show, Gunter took some time to answer some questions on everything from his inspirations to the scariest part about being an artist. When did you start making art? Stephen Gunter: I started making art almost three years ago, but I mean, I ve been drawing doodling I guess you could call it, since the 2nd grade. But I just started painting three years ago. Tell me about your first sale. One of the first paintings I sold was to my best friend Bill. It was a painting of ASAP Rocky, or Pretty Flacko. I had an idea for a painting, or a drawing I guess, at the time. I said hey, let me paint this, and if you want it you can pay me. And he s like, alright lets do it. And it was really good. He only paid me $100 for it. Well only at the time that was badass! my canvases, I think I ve got it down. It s just about practicing. What s been the most challenging piece or painting you ve ever made? S: The most challenging probably the bigger ones. I did a painting that was 48 x 72 inches, which was bigger than my bed that I sleep in. It was hard, I had to lay it on my bed and sit on my knees on the ground next to it and lean over it to paint it. It was a gun, the AR 15. With all the details in a black gun, you can only imagine. What has been your own personal favorite piece, and will you describe it? One of my favorite paintings that I ve ever done 11 Fine Mess. It s a painting of roses that I color blocked with white on the outside and then A Fine M ess framed. And it s just a really different looking painting. It s just different, that s the best way to describe it. And I did just sell it. I m sad, but at the same time now I just want to make like five more, a bunch more. I m sad it s gone, but money is in my pocket, so it s cool. What s the best thing about being an artist? Just being able to create things. I think anyone can be an artist. Some people are born with more skills than others, just like in anything. But I think it s a muscle you can exercise and get better at. You can exercise your creativity into anything and get better at it, just like you can exercise your muscles and get stronger. Being an artist, you think of an idea in your head that you want to paint or build or whatever. Then executing it, just the process of it, and seeing the final piece. If it s what you 12

8 had pictured your head, that s all really fun. That s the best part about being an artist. What s the worst thing about being an artist? Knowing that at any second you could not sell anything, and just be broke and have to get a real job again. What are some of the challenges that come with art? Making something that you like, that s one of my challenges. I can sit and paint something all day long and everybody else likes it, but I m not that into it. Sometimes I like what I do. And painting something that somebody would want to hang on the wall in their house [is a challenge]. Painting something that people want to buy, in general, that s American Woman difficult. What is it about each piece of your art that determines whether you like it or not? I think it s knowing the process that I did to make it. A lot of people don t care to know how the artist made the painting, but I m fascinated by that. Like in any kind of art, knowing how they did it is so cool. When I create a new piece, after the painting is done, I see the whole thing and think about how I did it, and it all kind of comes together. That determines a lot whether I like it or not. What type of art are you drawn to? I love street art and graffiti, but I m not really any good at any of that. I like contemporary art. Something with a meaning or something that just looks badass and cool. Who are your favorite artists currently? 13 Ryan Hewett is one right now, I really like him. I think he s American, but I m not sure to be completely honest. He s really dope, I like him a lot. He does oil on canvas, but uses spray paint too. I m really inspired by people who use an older style for their technique, but make it more new school/urban/contemporary. That kind of thing is cool to me. Annie Preece is also really dope. Picasso. Jackson Pollock. Harding Meyer right now, he follows me on Instagram. We ve talked a couple times. He s really good. Instagram is awesome, I ve had a lot of really cool conversations with people on there. Who/what inspires you? The use of lines and the use of color inspire me. Nature inspires me. Females, the female body inspires me. Music inspires me, more than anything. Any genre you can probably think of, I ll find something dope in it and listen to it. I mean, my friends inspire me, what they re doing. They re all in school, that just blows my mind. Future inspires me, he definitely inspires me. Future is probably one of my bigger inspirations right now. His lyrics speak for Gunter with one of his watercolors. themselves. Future s lyrics are revolutionary. Dirty Sprite 2 may be some of the best rap music that s ever been made. People don t realize it now, but they ll look back at it one day and think, wow that was a great tape. But I don t just listen to rap. Leon Bridges is really cool. He s from Ft. Worth, he s a local guy and he s amazing. He does old school, old stuff, really smooth and kind of like Motown stuff. What are your dreams and hopes for yourself as an artist? If there s a time for this, it s right now. So I m trying to push it right now, and go for it one hundred right now. So like, hopes and dreams, it s all going into this right now. Every thought I have through the day and every experience I have throughout the whole day 14

9 inspires something in a painting. It all kind of comes together into a painting. I m just trying to live, and life is fun right now, and I m just trying to kick it. Do you have any long or short- term goals? There are a couple of galleries I d like to get into. I know they ve seen my work, they ve followed me on Instagram and liked my pictures and all that, but they haven t reached out to me yet or anything. I d really like to get into some of those galleries. There are some really cool artists in a couple of the galleries in Dallas. I d like to go and check out the LA art scene and see what that s all about. What is something people don t know about art in general? You can find beauty in anything, as cheesy as it sounds. There could be a black dot on the center of a 10x20 foot canvas, and someone would pay millions of dollars for it because they find beauty in simplicity and minimalism. Then something as small as a 16x20 inch canvas that was painted over 100 years ago, that s worth a million dollars to someone. People can find love in anything. It s not that people don t know about art, a lot of people just don t understand the whole technique. What is something nobody knows about you? There are a lot of things people don t know about me. Sometimes if I can t sleep, I ll put my headphones in. I have these crazy earbuds, when you put them in and put music on really loud, you can t hear anything at all. It s crazy. And I sit in my room in pitch black and jam Mozart as loud as it will go. Lately I ve been jamming metal, but sometimes I ll jam Beethoven or Mozart, that kind of classical stuff, and lay in my bed and let it blow out my eardrums. It does help me go to sleep after a couple songs, because the songs are like 20 minutes long. What piece would you love to create that you haven t yet? The piece that I m probably going to do tomorrow or sometime this week. My buddy Bill, his parents came to my art show last night. I do these masks, they re called Faust masks and there s a whole story behind them about somebody who sold their soul to the devil for infinite knowledge, wisdom and wealth and all that. So pretty much a person whose willing to give anything, do whatever it takes to get what they want. So it all ties into it. It can be whatever you want it to be. My buddy Bill is doing school for his MBA, so you can relate that to him. He s doing whatever he has to do, doing whatever it takes to get what he wants. It s not just an art reference, it s anything. So I think it s a really ambitious painting. I think I m ambitious. But Bill s dad said to do a Texas flag in the mask, making one of the eyes a star. It was a good idea, I d never even thought about it. I can t wait to do it. Describe your art to someone who has never seen it. Lit. Good use of color. Fun. Dope. Very textured. Good use of mediums. Different. I think it s different. Different is good; it s a hell of a compliment to an artist. I think that a lot of it is different and it s pretty original. Tell us what you re working on now. Right now I ve got a commission I m working on. I did a painting called Straight outta Compton, a painting of a pretty model s derriere. I did it in blue acrylic with a really cool pouring medium and liquid acrylic background It s just really different looking. And I ve got a guy who wanted me to do one but in all red, so right now I have the canvas. The background is done and it s dope already, so I just need to paint my subject on it now and execute it What would you say to someone who doesn t appreciate or understand art? A lot of people don t. I mean, I don t understand rocket science, but I can talk Dallas Cowboys football to you all day, and then I will go and paint something. If you re interested in it, then you ll educate yourself about it to where you can have conversations about it and have opinions on it. *Find out more about Stephen C. Whether you prefer a long, messy braid down or a tight braided updo, hopefully these celebrities summer styles will inspire you. Actress Diane Kruger rocks effortless summer hair. She has her hair parted, and has braided both sides of her head, starting behind the ears, until they meet at the nape of the neck, where the braided sides come together and continue into a long braid down her back. Queen of chic summer style, actress Blake Lively, knows just how to achieve the effortless beachy look. Here she wears a purposely messy braid down the side of her head, complete with glitzy hair accessories. To keep this look undone, strategically pull sections out of the braid for a more casual feel. Actress Sienna Miller wears her hair braided the milkmaid style. Part your hair down the middle and braid each side. Fasten the ends. Then bring each braid up behind your ears, and fasten up over the top of your head with bobby pins. Repeat on the other side. This hairstyle looks beautiful either pristine or undone. Solange Knowles, actress and vocalist, knows how to stay cool by piling her braids high on top of her head. Braid your entire head, starting at the roots and fastening at the ends. Then flip your head over, gather all braids at the crown, and fasten with a hair band. The longer the braids, the better! 17 For a red carpet, actress Drew Barrymore wore this braided hairstyle, making it look like she had just walked off the beach. Drew s style has three different braids, all starting on one side of her head. The first starts at the part at the front of her head, then there is a middle braid starting directly under the first, and then another after that at the bottom of her head. The three braids are then pinned under at the nape of her neck. Actress Jessica Alba keeps it casual but polished with her braided bun. She keeps the look simple, with a single braid down one side of her head, then gathers all her hair, braid included, up off her neck where she ties it into a messy bun. The highlights add the perfect sun kissed glow, completing her beachy look. 18

Nothing will ever beat this and we officially hit our concrete ceiling, there's nowhere to go but down from here. 4. What other bands or musical groups give you inspiration? Density's Child. 5. What is your favorite song you ve produced thus far? Why? We are bad. All our songs are bad. Otto likes American History though. 6. What do Waterparks fans have to look forward to in the future? Too much stuff. Our rise to power, our classy dojo full of glass sculptures, eating caviar off each other's bare backs, WW3 and the fall of our dynasty, slow and painful death of the political organization Waterparks. One, they re the ideal mix of boy band adorable and tumblr stylish. Two, they are absolutely hilarious. And three, they are extremely talented. The trio, straight out of Houston, Texas, agreed to a quick Q&A, and of course they answered in true Waterparks fashion. Without a single serious response. Try not to fall in love. 1. Tell me your names, ages, position in the band, and an interesting fact. Awsten, aka FELONY STEVE, age 9. My cousin doinked the bassist of GWAR. Geoff age 37, plays guitar. I have clean fingers. Otto, age 16, plays drums, is the tallest member of Waterparks, sitting at 6'1 on a good day. 2. How and when was Waterparks formed? All our dads worked at Waterparks and we accidentally all kissed each other a LOT with passion and wet lips and hot heat and then we had band practice.
