5 Shop Resale for Back to School Wardrobes When I was raising my four children, this was one of my favorite times of the year, second only to Christmas! How wonderful for summer to be over and the kids to be back in school! Now is the time I would be getting school supplies together (this was before PTA s would do it for you), and looking for back-to-school clothes, (this was before school uniforms became popular), and I would be looking forward to quiet mornings after driving the kids to school (this was before school buses came to my neighborhood). I discovered the awesome advantages of resale shopping in the 80 s. My children were dressed for school in mostly resale duds. Now wait--before you give a deep sigh of sorrow for them there were days when they would come home from school and say, Mom, everyone loves my outfits but when I tell them the clothes are from a resale shop they don t believe me! I have joked that I probably saved enough money on clothes by shopping resale to send one of them to college. Children consignment/resale shops take in a vast amount of clothing due to children outgrowing clothes, and never even wearing some of them. Look for a shop that is very selective in choosing new looking, popular name brand, in-style clothing that was purchased at the better department stores. Shop for better quality clothing at discount store prices or below. You may find uniform clothing items in resale shops, also, especially if your school district demands them. The savvy shops will even provide new uniform items at discounted prices. Before you make a trip to your nearest children s resale shop, clean out the closets and take those nicer, new or barely worn school clothes from last year with you and open a consignment account. Most stores will let you use credit from the consignment account to make purchases. Think recycling! In the 80s, resale was the best kept secret, but today it is cool to shop resale for the truly best bargains, and to brag about it!
