8 ALFREDO DESIGNER ALFREDO HÄBELRI DESIGN YEAR 2011 Alfredo Häberli s joyful and spirited approach to design is perfectly illustrated in the Alfredo collection for Georg Jensen. Candleholders, vases, salt and pepper shakers, bowls and even a kitchen roll holder appear as different members of the same family - separate characters and personalities but with a common DNA running through them. The materials range from steel to glass and wood but all compliment each other perfectly with a harmony of tone and form. And, in true Häberli style, the pieces combine functionality, beauty and a sense of humour that make them equally at home in the kitchen or the living room. 32 HENNING KOPPEL DESIGNER HENNING KOPPEL DESIGN YEAR 1948 The legendary Henning Koppel s work is synonymous with both the heritage of Georg Jensen and indeed with Danish design itself. Working endlessly in his pursuit of reconciling form and function, Koppel was obsessed with creating everyday objects that were beautiful without sacrificing practicality. His work has stood the test of time and continues to be a source of inspiration to new generations of designers. Most recently the Georg Jensen design team have taken original Koppel designs and reworked them to new variations of his iconic pieces. Original Koppel watercolour sketches from the archive have inspired and introduced a new colour palette of black, steel and shades of blue. 41 LEGACY DESIGNER PHILIP BRO LUDVIGSEN & GEORG JENSEN DESIGN TEAM DESIGN YEAR 2009 Industrial Designer, Philip Bro Ludvigsen was educated at the Danish School of Design and Art and has since developed a highly successful business philip bro. In his short career, he has already designed an impressive number of products and projects, ranging from grand auditoriums to small candleholders. Philip describes the Legacy series with the following words: My ambition with the Legacy-series was to create a beautiful decoration for the home in a contemporary design." 104 MITRA CUTLERY DESIGNER GUNDORPH ALBERTUS DESIGN YEAR 1941 Mitra was designed in 1941 by the sculptor Gundorph Albertus. Mitra was the first steel cutlery pattern produced in the Georg Jensen silversmithy in response to the wartime shortage of silver. Gundorph Albertus strongly advocated continuing the craftsmanship tradition of the master, Georg Jensen. This spirit is manifested in Mitra, a beautiful set in matte-finish stainless steel. When she behaved well as a child she was rewarded with something tasty to eat. Strawberries with cream, home-made ice cream or jam and best of all she was allowed to eat with her grandmothers christening spoon. It became the symbol of a happy life. The stainless steel collection became a favorite when it launched in 1997 and Vivianna s balance and pleasing lines make it a timeless and desirable cutlery range.
