3 Welcome Welcome to the Lund s B Bar Angus annual production sale! It is the first week in February as I write this letter and wonder why do synchronized heifers calve the coldest time of the year? However, it is better to be cold in February then in April like We took a weight on the bulls the end of December and at that point the average daily gain was 2.95 pounds, we like that gain as it allows the bulls to grow and not be butterballs. One thing we found interesting this fall is what the calves gain while on the cows according to our American Angus reports. Our weaning data showed that our calves gained 3.57 pounds per day on the mature cows and 3.07 pounds per day on the first calf heifers. We believe that for this environment those are some very nice numbers. This is with only grass, water, and mineral. Our program continues to be about making balanced trait cattle with the emphasis on the mother cow. We require our cows to be nurturing mothers with good udders. They make the short list if they are uncooperative when being handled, appear hard fleshing, have foot structure issues, or are just not pleasant in appearance. We also like to keep as much muscle and length in our cattle as we can as that is what the business is about, pounds of red meat. The bulls were again fed on the ranch and every calf was raised on the ranch as well. They have been bucket fed a grain ration of oats and corn as in the past. At no point in their feed test will they get over one percent of their body weight of grain, or go past ten pounds of grain. They also have free choice crested wheatgrass hay in front of them. This year the hay that was ground for them included alfalfa hay besides just crested wheatgrass hay. As you can see this diet should make for a healthy bull to turnout and allow for longevity. The bulls can be viewed at the ranch anytime. They may also be viewed at our website, DV Auction, or Billpelton.com. Please note that we do not put straw down for the videos as we want you to see the feet and toes of our cattle. At this point the sale will NOT be online. 7 Reference Sires B Bar Windy 79 This is the best all-around bull we have ever used. His daughters are awesome! This bull keeps muscle in the cattle and leaves you with great daughters. Good udders, good feet, and good disposition. We have used this bull since 2010 due to his popularity and proven productivity. SAV Resource 1441 We used this bull AI because of the sons we saw around the area. These cattle show an extensive amount of muscle, stay moderate in frame, and are extremely correct on their feet and legs. These cattle will have a little different look to them, but they bring some very good features with them. His progeny at other sales have been sale toppers. SRS Balance 0609B Balance was the high selling bull at Skinners in We selected him because of his beautiful mother and the correctness he displayed. Calves are very muscular, strong hipped, and wide topped. Frame is moderate. B Bar Black Mass 3045 We chose to keep this bull back for our own use in He was as complete of a bull that we had or had seen that spring. His mother is a high volume cow with good feet, great udder, and has a very calm disposition. He is a little lighter birth EPD than anticipated. PRA Cash 5138 This bull can give you the larger scale that calf buyers like. If you like cattle with length and size, look this sire group over. The bull himself is a very heavy muscled animal, and we are seeing that transmitted to his progeny. Very nice front ends on these cattle as well. S Foundation 514 This is an AI sire we tried based on the credibility of who bought him. These calves should be very maternal and have a good set of feet and legs under them. You may give up some performance, but I believe the females will make up for that. We did use him again in 2018 based on how the calves looked at birth and branding! B Bar Churchill 0876 After VDAR Churchill went down due to injury we selected this son as a replacement. His mother was pretty fronted, pretty headed, and had a beautiful udder. She did have some white on her bag so for those concerned about white, this bull may throw some due to his pedigree. B Bar Righteous 76 This bull is out of the same mother as Windy 79. We sampled him because of his type and mother. This bull will sire moderation, but should add thickness and structure to cattle. We have seen his sons at other places and are encouraged by his consistency. He is a heifer bull out of the great SAV Resource 1441 bull. B Bar Conviction 066 He was named for what he is to be. It is our conviction to bring you cattle with good feet, good bag, good growth, and good disposition. We feel this bull will fit that description based on his visual appraisal and his pedigree.
