2 Amsterdams Blauw Amsterdams Blauw is the Scotch & Soda denim label for men, women, boys and girls. Just like our main line we cook our denims in Amsterdam, yet our ingredients and treasure chest of inspiration stretches way beyond the borders of our home city, to every corner of our amazing world. Our Blauw creations are also free in time: Inspired by the best of denim heritage as well as true indigo innovation, we like to sketch a play between both to remix and recraft something entirely fresh and free of rules. These creative freedoms are true to our Scotch & Soda wandering spirit and endless curiosity, and why our denim craft enjoys an ever growing family of fans and followers. 3 Amsterdams Blauw Women Spring/Summer The Izu Island Collection For Spring-Summer 2017, Amsterdams Blauw takes you to the Island of Izu Oshima, circa 1954: A lush volcanic Island in the middle of the Japanese Ocean. There are two striking island characters everyone should know: The Island s fuel - its whiskey distillery and its equally impressive owner: An all powerful female boss who seems to own the atmosphere of our beautiful isle. Born in the West, our demanding whiskey landlord surrounds herself with home comforts from her native fifties America. She also keeps someone else very close a charmer of a bootlegger. She s playing with fire. But then she s the boss. Over time, this all-powerful couple s influence seems to blend, re-mix, and clash with the island s natural Eastern charm, until it forms something entirely new East meets West, volcano meets tropics, work hard meets play harder Oh, that s important. The play hard part Once the distillery workers clock-off they play until the sunlight turns to white and becomes moon instead. Now, the whiskey flows, as it does in the distillery pipes, but this time it s islander fuel for tropical beach life danced to its best. This is an island of two hearts and minds coexisting in a strange harmony - and the soul for a Spring-Summer Amsterdams Blauw tale told in two striking parts: PART 1 - Lava & Whiskey Our woman bosses an entire island this Spring-Summer and she does it wearing volcanic shades to match her fierce spirit. Fresh reds and whites, stand out from moodier indigo tones. Two new denim fits are introduced to match the feminine boss vibe: The Lulu - a new Flare fit, and the Bandit Boyfriend a slim tapered boyfriend. Both in a series of lovingly crafted destruct-and-repair washes. Amsterdams Blauw SS17 washes are all about intense whiskey moodiness and utter volcanic destruction - Cold brew, Happy bash, Grey volcano and Smoke peak add worn and washed-out appeal to new and trademark Amsterdams Blauw fits. Much-loved Blauw denims, like Supreme, are given a seasonal twist with a three-quarter length crop and cut-off hem. East meets West is heavily represented by Japanese bloom-infused bandana patterning, featured on a statement indigo quilted bomber, as border prints and on discharge-printed shirts. Exploded bandana paisleys decorate the back of a black biker leather gilet: The perfect stand-out piece to add to all our little black summer hits, such as the floaty tencel harem pant and the loose dungaree. The last dose of volcanic flavour is saved for a set of burnt out boyfriend tees for throw-it-on cool. PART 2 - Metallics in Paradise Once the work of the island is done, Amsterdams Blauw heads to the coast - sprinkling indigo with metallics, lime-yellow, freshest orange-red, sun-bleached and ecru white. A beach-party palette injected into cool, hotweather pieces. The patterning continues in part II, now as sheriff and fifties hot lips motifs and as pop-out linings. Denims, long and short are worn destroyed, broken at the knee or bashed with volcano effect, then lovingly repaired. The new Bandit in Lurex love in black is intertwined with shine from silver lurex weft-thread. Shorts gets a higher waist, raw edges and big bashings of destruct and repair. Amsterdams Blauw also introduce a rich line-up of tee and shirt silhouettes to contrast with the rougher denims. Jersey is paneled with soft, indigo tencel for a feminine tee and sweat remix. We add a new boxy boyfriend tee with higher neck and a hot-orange and white stripe Heroes vintage inspired tee heads up our new cropped shapes. While, a set of sheer feminine shirts with balloon sleeves feature volcano and sheriff star embroideries, adding a touch of sweetness to our time on the beach. When summer-nights cool, we cover-up with stand-out foil sweats and sweet varsity bombers with multi-coloured striped ribs - the perfect finishing touches to our Amsterdams Blauw play for Spring-Summer Both parts of the collection are born to be mixed or mismatched for a season full of tough-sweet clashes. Lava embers and heat change the denim landscape and colour dramatically: Red, ecru and black dominate our new story. Deep ashy shades of black make the Heartbreaker and Whiskey dip the natural worker-pant for island inhabitants and all new fans of a tough denim palette. Tees and shirts in flashes of clear red and worn-ecru come in stripes and prints that complement deep volcano destruction. Last measure - leaving just the tiniest hint of our indigo trademark. Beachfresh washes Fruity flavour and Sugar & Spice continue the indigo-pop game. Colours and whites are the purest you will ever see, interrupted only by exploded Japanese bloom prints. Experience this high contrast clear colour in classics like our one pocket tee and chino short which turn up in a vivid new rainbow of colours. Japan meets Americana is just as important in part two of our denim tale, with detailed paradise birds adorning tough, work wear all-overs. Indigo sunsets and postcards from tropical isles playing out across other pieces. Metallic weaves its way through our tale, in yarns and prints, as seen in our headliner Moonshine flight jacket. This is a mid-summer indigo story that, just like our high on life islanders, absorbs every ray of sun and moonlight as fuel to keep the endless party going. LOT 22 LOT 22 is the Amsterdams Blauw Premium denim lab. A place where we forget the rules and experiment to create real indigo newness. This season we play with volcanic treatments to create a range of moody washes and hand-crafted special effects. We bash denim with lava tears - the precious stones that form when hot lava solidifies, and hand paint a variation we call Apache tears. Volcanic rock also throws a moody green cast over our Obsidian flow and Volcanic washes. Selvedge lovers are treated to a cool Lava inspired trio: the White ash raw 13oz Japanese selvedge, the black Lava tears stretch selvedge, and a washed Blue magma selvedge. In addition to our new denim, sweats and shirts are ripped and intricately repaired and a reinvention of the classic black leather jacket takes us miles away from the traditional biker with sleek copper branding, a stand-out finishing touch we use across all LOT 22 pieces. Fifties Americana clashes with Japenese iconography throughout think lucky cats in all kinds of patterns on a series of bespoke bandanas. This East meets West merge of art and craft continues with sporty silhouettes reimagined with beautiful Japan-channeled art. Our fifties inspired Distillery Jacket an oversize shawl coat dotted with brilliant bandana detail - heads up a collection that brews a cool, new moody take on Amsterdams Blauw indigo. All under the watchful eye of our powerful distillery boss. Until the workers clock-off that is PART 2 - Metallics in Paradise When the work is done on Izu Island, a new mood shines out. Strong sun, coral dye, and metallic light take over from lava and wash out a series of new denims. Indigos are extreme bleached in new washes Liquid sunshine and Heroes of Amsterdams Blauw This season we launch two very special editions: Two highly-crafted replicas of loved and worn denim pieces owned by colleagues. These Heroes make Amsterdams Blauw possible. They work with us across the globe. They are also the proud owners of some beautiful Amsterdams Blauw worn day in, day out. We fell in love when we saw their naturally worn in pieces, and thought others will feel the same. So, we borrowed them and got to work recreating stitch by stich, rip by rip, repair by repair, until they looked exactly like our Heroes originals.
