Elena Our Fantastic School Trip to St Albans On the 18 th of January 2017 we had to go to school at 8.45am. Then, at the Abbey Education Centre, we put our coats, lunch bags and hi- vis jackets into small wooden cubes. We finally entered the church. It was huge! When we sat down there, we met a man called Steve who explained a bit about what we would do and organised our groups. Our first activity was role play. Albie and Zane were the Roman soldiers, Millicent was the magistrate, Jadan was Alban, Alfie, Oliver S and Oliver B were Celts, Katie was a market lady selling food and clothes, Maddie Harvey was another market lady and she sold make- up, Maddison was the Christian, Niamh was the executioner, Keeley and Paige were the rich ladies and I was Keeley s daughter. Kaya and Josh were slaves. Next we did the blanket dig and had lunch. Then, we did some cooking. We made a starter which was pitta bread with cheese and mint on top. We also made a dessert which was dates stuffed with grated apples and cinnamon. The other group made the same starter but they made a different dessert which was fig quarters rolled up in balls covered with flour. It was home time. We had a great
time and learnt lots of interesting history facts. Katie Our super Roman trip On the 18 th of January we went on a school trip to St Alban s Cathedral. When we went in the cathedral, we did some drama. We acted out the story of Alban. It was great fun. Maddie H and I were the market women. I sold food like bread, cheese and olives. Maddie H sold makeup and clothes and the makeup was made of BUGS! After that we looked at the things archaeologists would find underground from the Roman times. We moved away the cover and there was a Roman shield and it had some thunder bolts pointing to the sky and we think it was to represent Zeus. The next thing we found a lorica segmentata which was the body armour for the Romans. It has the word segment in it because it is made of lots of segments of metal. It is very heavy.
Our school trip to St Albans! Our trip to St Albans was all about Romans, it was really cool. First we acted out the story of St Alban (the place where we were). I was magistrate, dressed in a white toga, who decided how people, who were guilty died. Our instructor was called Steve, he was telling us facts about the Roman Empire and then we acted out the normal things that Romans did. I loved being the magistrate because I also love telling people what to do. Then we took part in the blanket dig. What we did was we had some blankets with old artefacts from the Roman times and other times in history. We learnt the coins can help us sometimes because most of them have the date on them. After our lunch we tasted some Roman food. We tried dates with cinnamon and grated apple with spices. We had some pitta bread with feta cheese and mint on top.
Our Roman School Trip On the ,Totternhoe Lower School went to the Saint Albans Cathedral to find out about Romans. We acted the story of Alban who was a person who became a friend of a Christian and became one himself. I was the Christian, Callum was Alban, Ffion was the ma estr i and Jad e was a rich lad y. objects and we guessed what they were. Hollie and I were given a sponge on a stick. We saw a wax pad and a pencil kind of object. We sat in a circle and shared ideas about what we had. Finally in that lesson we found out about the galea, caligae, lorica segmentata and the gladius. Finally, we made Roman food. My favourite was dates with honey on pitta bread. My least favourite was the feta cheese with vinegar on pitta bread. We found out how the rich and wealthy Romans lounged to eat. It was in a special way. You lay on your side and rest your head on your hand with your elbow on the surface. Aft er that, we had a blanket dig. We went along a timeline back to the Roman era. Next, we were given
Our Roman Trip On our school trip we went to St. Alban s cathedral to learn about the Romans. We acted the story of Alban. Albie and I were Roman soldiers and Jadan was the hero, Alban. We had to follow Millicent s orders because she was the Magistrate. armour and after that, we did the blanket dig. A helmet was called the galea, the chest plate was called the lorica segmentata, the sandals were called the caligae, the training sword was called the gladius and the shield was called the scutum. Then, we got given different objects from Roman times and had to guess what they were. By Zane Then we looked at replicas of some roman
Our Roman trip On the 18 th of January we went to St. Albans cathedral to learn about the Romans. It was really fun, first we did some role play, we acted out the story of St. Alban. Zane and I were Roman legionaries. Zane was soldier 1 and I was soldier 2 and we had to follow Millicent s orders because she was the Magistrate. Jadan was St. Alban. After that we did an activity and it was called the blanket dig, to learn about how modern people today learned about what objects the Romans used in that time and what money they used, and what year that money was used and who their leader or Emperor was at that time. Also as well as the Romans we also found out what they used in different times like Tudor times and Victorian times as well. By Albie Headey
