Thannhauser Estate of Pablo Picasso, vegap, Madrid, 2016 Windows on the City: The School of Paris, april 22 october 23, 2016 galleries curator: lauren hinkson At the dawn of the 20th century, Paris was the capital of the avantgarde. Artists from across the globe flocked to the City of Light, where they created new forms of art and literature and reacted to the fast-paced economic, social, and technological developments that were changing city life. In Paris, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque radically transformed the conventions of painting, Robert Delaunay created his harmonious color compositions, Vasily Kandinsky blazed new trails in abstraction, and Constantin Brancusi reinvented the way sculpture is presented in space. Windows on the City: The School of Paris, offers a vibrant overview of this time of creative effervescence through selected works from the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. PRIZE DRAW FOR 25 DOUBLE INVITATIONS TO THE VERNISSAGE OF WINDOWS ON THE CITY: THE SCHOOL OF PARIS, Log in at (Join & Support/ Museum Members/Private Area) to find out if you are one of the Museum Members who will receive an invitation for two to attend the opening event. 3 Learning Through Art june 14 september 18, 2016 educational area This original exhibition features some of the works made by the 119 children between the ages of 6 and 12 who participated in the educational program Learning Through Art in the school year. Led by artists Elssie Ansareo, Naia del Castillo, Maider López, Manu Muniategiandikoetxea, Ainhoa Ortells, and Jorge Rubio, the program reinforces the standard elementary school curriculum by using art as an educational tool. Openly talking about art and the creative process helps children explore different themes in a more personal, imaginative way. Employing a wide variety of artistic mediums and techniques, such as photography, painting, sculpture, video, and performance, this program blurs the conventional boundaries between disciplines and encourages participants to see the world from a freer, more enriching perspective. Art thus becomes a tool for discovering, exploring, and understanding reality, underscoring the value of individual expression and creative freedom. sponsored by WISH TREE FOR BILBAO wednesday, may 18 and friday, august 26 Visitors are invited to participate in the work by Yoko Ono, Wish Tree for Bilbao, on Wednesday, May 18 (International Museum Day), and Friday, August 26 (the biggest day of Bilbao s annual city festival).
