Natural buff-brown pottery seated figure holing a small child with her right arm. Wearing a banded head band and incised decorated hairdo, applied necklace and appliques on her biceps. Some remaining black painted decoration on a red-brown ground. Child missing nose, otherwise intact. A nice example. Together with a tall standing male figure, wearing a pointed headdress, applied necklace and shoulder ornaments. Both arms reattached with breakline visible, minor loss under right arm. Including a small polychrome decorated pottery copador bowl, depicting three monkeys in a wide lower exterior band, painted red upper braided rim band. Two v-shape original pieces reattached in the rim and one rim chip. Some surface pocking around and on one monkey. Together with a polychrome bowl having two incised monkeys and two incised semiabstract serpents. Upper incised geometric rim band. Painted red ground, elements highlighted in ocher. Chocolate ware pottery reclining spotted dog vessel having a stirrup spout with a funnel chimney spout. Overall incised spot decoration on the dogs coat, front paws crossed. Private NYC collection, acquired at Heritage Auctions. Red-brown pottery feline vessel having a bulbous saucer body, short tail spout and a strap bridge handle. Large feline head having pointy ears and a large toothy mouth, highlighted with cream pigment. Some faded black and white geometric decoration remaining on the body. Ears partially restored, repaired from several pieces with restoration over the breaklines. Chips on the chimney spout rim, otherwise intact. Together with a Vicus chocolate ware pottery avian vessel having a strap bridge handle and rear spout, whistle incorporated. Overall scattered surface deposits and light weathering. Stable hairlines through out the base of the vessel, otherwise intact. Polychrome decorated pottery, bridge handled vessel with opposing human heads possibly representing trophy heads. The slightly larger head has a figural head-form spout. Areas of mineral deposits on the surface. Chips on the spout rim and nose, some wear to the painted surface, stable hairline on the back of one head, otherwise intact. Including a Chancay/Inca brown pottery animal vessel, standing on four short legs. Depicted with an elongated snout, projecting eyes and perked ears. Wide spout in the center of his back. Left ear and rear leg reattached, small rim chip, otherwise intact. Together with a blackware pottery zoomorphic vessel depicted with an open mouth an pig-like snout. Ca A.D. 6-3/4 H. Private NYC collection, acquired from Allard Auctions, Montana. Blackware pottery gadrooned vessel on a decorated pedestal foot, neck with flared rim. Two opposing dogs seated on the vessel. Wave and circular elements on the neck, stepped and geometric decoration on the base. V-shape piece restored in the lip and a small rim chip, otherwise intact. Private NM collection, by descent from parents, acquired 1950s - 60s. Including a Costa Rican tripod bowl, standing on long legs, decorated with monkeys. Legs and two monkey tails repaired and reattached, with some restoration. A large batwing deity vessel, repaired from approximately six or more large pieces. A small pottery opposing frog bowl, overall weathered surface. Together with three zoomorphic ocarinas, including two avian types and an armadillo. All with minor imperfections. Finally, a Teotihuacan molded figure wearing a red painted cape with losses to both feet. Imbedded in a mosaic stone ground, wood frame. A Paracas blackware pottery standing figure with incised circular decoration. Right leg reattached, minor imperfections, otherwise intact. Custom metal base. Including two larger red-brown pottery pre-classic heads, originally from figures. Both have scattered losses. Mounted on old wood block bases. Together with a Costa Rican tripod bowl standing on tall rattle ball type legs, one leg reattached, missing ball. One leg shorter than the other two legs. Including a single strand necklace composed of barrel and tubular speckled green jadeite beads, alternated with orange shell disc beads. Two large shell beads and a large melon jadeite bead in the center. Modern strung with a handmade brass clasp. Together with a single strand necklace on modern gold wire composed of ancient Costa Rican rock crystal and red-orange carved shell pendant and tubular beads. Both are sturdy and suitable to wear. Most of the larger examples have losses. Overall encrusted blue-green surface patinas. Many mounted on an old wood block base. Four Holyland pottery oil lamps including a hidden menorah type having a stylized menorah near the spout and large stylized lettering around the upper edge. Minor ancient edge chip, otherwise intact. Together with a disc type lamp having relief geometric decoration. Stamped with the Israeli export stamp on the bottom. Encrusted surface, intact. Finally, two single wick lamps both having relief geometric decoration. The slightly smaller example has a few minor losses, otherwise both are intact. 9 536. Holyland Pottery Vessels (5) Israel, Middle East. Iron age, ca B.C. 3-3/4-4-1/2 D. 3-4 H. Collection of Mr. & Mrs. James DiBella, NYC. Acquired from Khader M. Baidun, Israel. Five similar pottery vessels having applied loop handles and collar necks with rounded rims. All having scattered areas of surface encrustation. One has a partially restored rim, the others all have some rim chips, one with a repaired rim. Est. $300-$500 Closing: Thursday, March 3rd, 12:02 P.M Roman Holyland Bottle and Bowl (2) Israel. Roman period, ca. 1st - 3rd century A.D. 5 H. & 8-1/4 D. Private Connecticut collection, acquired early 1980s. Pottery examples including a large bowl of simple design, having areas of mineral deposits and light surface encrustation. Two very minor hairlines in the rim, otherwise intact. Together with a bulbous body, flat bottom bottle, perforated through the rim. A few remaining traces of red-brown painted annular ring decoration on the neck. Private Calif. collection, acquired more than 30 years ago. Both are black metallic glazed pottery examples, including a kothon and a kylix. 10 541. Limestone Idol Head Roman. Ca A.D. 3-1/2 H. Private Calif. collection, acquired more than 30 years ago. Carved shelly limestone female head originally from a figure, tilted slightly to the right. incised striated hairdo pulled into a rear bun, wearing a simple headband. Depicted with large almond shape eyes. Overall tan surface patina. Some scattered areas of light surface erosion, and a few minor losses, otherwise intact. Mounted on a old limestone block base. Including a molded North African red-slipware pottery lamp decorated with a central stylized temple design, outer border decorated with a vine with berries pattern. Overall scattered white surface encrustation. Together with three pottery lamps of similar design, having open rimmed saucers and a single wick. Hoard of twenty-eight various Ptolemaic bronze coins including Ptolemy VI, Zeus on obverse, two eagles on reverse, ( B.C), Cleopatra I, (mother), Isis on obverse, eagle on reverse, ( ). All are covered with a heavy deep blue and green surface encrustation, masking much of the original details. Closing: Thursday, March 3rd, 12:20 P.M Coptic Textile Fragments (2) Egypt. Group of seven various small blown, light yellow-green and blue-green glass bottles. Three with vertical ribbed bodies. Various degrees of surface patinas. Most of the combs from Akan people, with wide rectangular form, long tines, handle with openwork detail, incised animals and hearts conveying shorthand messages. One comb with MR MARY OWU engraved on body, one tine missing. A larger comb with an incised hunter wielding gun, and various animals in field, probably held mirror in circular opening; tine broken. Another large comb with openwork registers containing birds, hearts, and seats bears inscription, AKUA DEDA ; age crack in handle. Also two similar Swahili combs from Tanzania, of darker wood, with short comb upper finial, concentric incised circle pattern, and ridged grip.
