Winnie, Jr. collection, Georgia, 1980 s-90 s. Including an Egyptian ovoid quartzite stone hand tool, probably a scraper. Intact. Together with a Hyksos bronze tapered spear blade, having raised blood ridges. Attachments pins remaining. Overall mottled deep green surface patina. Missing tip of tang and having minor ancient edge roughness. Finally, a Bronze tapered knife blade having an incised hieroglyphic inscription with a royal cartouche on one side. Three bronze bowls including the largest which has two incised interior zigzag decorative bands. Overall mottled blue-green surface patina. Slightly misshapen upper rim, otherwise intact. Together with a medium size having an interior base concentric band pattern with a bronze disc set in the center. Nice blue-green patina with scattered red-brown oxides. Intact. Finally, a small bowl decorated on the interior with a large incised pig in the center surrounded with a band of six smaller pigs. Incised interlocking upper border. Group of nine assorted large bronze clothing pins, including one having a ram s head finial and one having a stylized zoomorph. Four different pins with cone type finials and banded upper shafts. Two with disc tops and one with a large rounded top. Most have overall blue-green surface patina. Two with minor tip losses, otherwise all are intact. A nice group. Missing one piece from a lateral slat, otherwise intact. Together with a cast bronze zoomorphic furniture leg, claw and ball type, with the claws grasping a medium olive green glass ball. Two early bronze hand amulets, the slightly larger is missing a finger and suspension loop, overall encrusted blue-green surface patina. The other hand is decorated with a scattered dot pattern on the back, suspension loop on top. Overall blue-green surface patina. Intact. Together with two different sheet silvered copper hand amulets, the smaller is decorated with an incised geometric pattern. Finally, a sheet copper standing stylized human figure, intricately decorated on the front with incised details. The reverse with an inscription, probably a dedication or prayer. Four round bronze stylized bird belt latches and one round stylized snake belt latch. Together with three large double round stylized bird belt latches. Finally, two small bronze penannular brooches with pin attachments. Most have an overall blue-green surface patina. Eight large, heavy bronze decorated fibula pins, including two bulbous arm types, three heavily beaded arm types and three decorated with geometric patterns and beaded rims. All are missing their iron pins, otherwise intact. A nice group. Together with eight bracelets of various types, including an example having animal headed finials. Four different examples decorated with fine line geometric patterns. Finally, three undecorated examples and two fragments. Two orangeware molded pottery plank idols, one depicting a female with bare breasts. The other a male holding a knife and wearing a crosshatched skirt. Both have encrusted weather worn surfaces. Together with a small solid pottery camel head, missing ears. Some encrusted red-brown painted surface remaining. Est. $300-$400 Closing: Wednesday, May 20th, 11:08 A.M Sabean Shield Boss South Arabia. Ca. 3rd to 2nd Century B.C. 3-1/2 D. LA collection, ex. private Jerusalem collection. A bronze disc shaped example decorated in relief with a frontal depiction of a gorgon head, possibly Medusa, having bold facial features and wearing a simple head band, pushing back a full head of hair. Overall blue-green patina with red oxides. Iron deposits on the reverse. Three small original pieces reattached in the rim, some ancient minor edge roughness. Custom metal mount. Finally, a tan-white ushabti with some remaining traces of black painted highlights. Head and lower legs reattached, weathered surface. Including a small alabaster dish having a nice mellow surface patina, intact. A miniature alabaster jar, drilled center opening. Scattered blue-green surface patina. Three minor rim chips, otherwise intact. Finally, a slightly bulbous alabaster jarlet having a small rim chip, otherwise intact, overall exc. cond. African red slip ware lamp, some losses to the slip, otherwise intact. Finally, three blackware pottery Herodian type Holyland lamps with long spouts, having various simple geometric decoration, one having a stylized tree of life on the spout. Some remaining traces of painted black striped decoration. Some ancient rim roughness, otherwise intact. Together with a Roman- Egyptian molded pottery female bust, painted in multicolor. Scattered loss to the painted surface. Finally, a molded pottery fragment depicting a relief face wearing the royal beard. Overall weathered surface. Together with a carved black-green stone block mold carved with various designs, including two faces, figures and geometric elements. A limestone fragment having an incised lotus flower, painted in multicolor. Mounted on a plaque marked: Excavated by Auguste Mariette temple of Sety Abydos 19th Dyn. Including a carved and painted wood winged scarab, intact. Together with a steatite Nile Perch amulet, embedded in a lucite block. Chip on his tail, otherwise intact. A large rich blue glazed faience pottery bracelet, repaired from six large original pieces. A blue-green glazed faience pottery rectangular lid, perforated on the underside for attachment. One corner reattached and a few minor chips. Finally, a carved hardstone small shallow round cosmetic dish. Rim chip, otherwise intact. Est. $750-$1,000 Closing: Wednesday, May 20th, 11:24 A.M Coin Lot & Miniature Lead Amphora (22) Late to Ptolemaic period, B.C. Amphora, 1-5/8 H., coins, /8 w. Private NYC collection, brought to USA prior to 1948, to present owner by descent. Twenty-one assorted bronze Ptolemaic coins, many are heavily corroded and have strong blue-green patinas. Together with a cast lead miniature amphora, decorated in low relief leaf design around the lower body. Two small holes in the shoulder and the upper rim is somewhat misshapen, otherwise intact. Est. $500-$800 Closing: Wednesday, May 20th, 11:25 A.M Egyptian Amulet of Tauret Late period, ca B.C. 2-3/8 H. Private NYC collection, acquired in the early 1970 s. Molded faience pottery amulet of Tauret, the hippopotamus goddess of pregnancy, mothers and neo-nates, shown striding forth, and back supported by a papyrus leaf with suspension loop at shoulders. Her modeled jaws slightly open, tripartite wig falling over long pendant breasts, and arms at sides of pregnant swollen belly. Pale blue-green faience surface of somewhat rough weathered texture, a few scattered losses. Ten molded blue-green glazed faience ushabtis including two small simple examples and five somewhat larger examples, three of which have illegible glyphs, one having a foot reattached. Including a single strand necklace composed of tubular blue-green faience and small multicolor disc beads strung with a small uzat eye bead, modern barrel clasp. A double strand of small deep green barrel beads, an old stringing that is very weak, needs to be restrung. A single strand of cream color tubular faience beads and interspersed disc beads, modern barrel clasp. Finally, a very long single strand necklace of blue-green tubular faience beads and small disc beads, strung with five blue glazed bell flower beads, minor chips on two of the flowers. Old and weak stringing, needs to be restrung. Some small beads may be Amarna period. A strand of elliptical blue paste glass beads interspersed with blue-green faience beads and red-orange carnelian beads and assorted white glass and pottery beads. A strand of carved shell beads interspersed with six blue-glass beads. Finally, a strand of red-orange carnelian beads and pale blue-green pottery beads with a few small rock crystal beads. Including various standing Bes figures, a fish, uzat, uraeus, and pomegranates. A few with minor losses and a few have ancient added suspension loop beads, most are intact. Together with twelve carved bone cornflower beads, six are intact and six are missing the top portion of their suspension holes, some with base disc chips. Two carnelian finger rings and two red jasper hair rings. A fine small carnelian scarab and a zad column. A carnelian fish bead, repaired from four original pieces. Three different carved bluish-green feldspar eyes, two of which are perforated for suspension. Two different deep blue glazed faience eyes, intact. A deep blue glazed plaque type and a round double sided bead type, both intact. A large very pale green glazed example with traces of black details, weather worn with some small losses. A larger pale green glazed example, uninscribed, having wear on the outer rim. Finally, a blue-green glazed steatite elliptical scaraboid with inscription. Some glaze loss, otherwise intact. Shank detached and broken in two pieces. A bronze finger ring set with an oval carnelian with incised decoration. A brass ring decorated with circular elements. A small glass disc with impressed decoration. Finally, a blue-green faience ring shank fragment. A single and double strand necklace, composed of multicolor faience pottery disc beads, strung with three different scarabs, including two glazed steatite and one blue-glazed pottery examples. Two different decorated glazed pottery bowls including a small bowl decorated with a large fantail rooster in the center, surrounded by a geometric border. Exterior of the bowl is decorated with a wide stylized floral band. V-shape rim chip, otherwise intact. Together with a large shallow bowl decorated with a bird in flight, surrounded with a wide band of circular and geometric elements. Repaired from approximately twenty original pieces and has a v-shape piece missing from the rim and a few minor restored chips and losses. Estate collection of Nourollah Elghanayan, NYC., acquired 1960s - 70s. Bronze two-prong fork having a long thin handle, decorated with a simple circular pattern on the bridge. Some scattered blue-green surface patina. Intact. Together with a long handled silvered copper spoon, having an engraved Islamic inscription on the handle, intact. Finally, a fancy cast bronze combination hammer/adz head having a long hand forged iron handle, threaded at the top. Missing the iron adz blade. Wagner, CA., to current owner by inheritance. Two different solid pottery miniature figural pendants, each depicting a stylized human seated figure, one having large round eyes, the other with coffee bean type eyes and a large angular nose. Perforated at the top for suspension. A few remaining traces of red and white pigment highlights. Left arm reattached on one example, otherwise both are intact. Rare example, the curved staff with hook in form of large anthropomorphic head with hair extension behind, low ridged crest, and beneath the face an extended animal snout with pointed open mouth. The long narrow handle is lined with three stacked figures, two females and one male, of strong linear form, their long breasts, hands in front of abdomen and bent knees create rhythmic pattern, and notched ridges flank sides. Broken into 3 pieces, head missing from top figure. Dark brown encrusted patina, showing age. Carried or worn over the shoulder by ritual thieves, or yona, their main activity is at the funeral of one of its members, when the yona hunt the animals in the village, and sacrifice and eat the prey at the funeral.
