PRELUDE texworld new york trends preview autumn winter [ApparelSourcing] Louis and Gregory, as the designer of the Trend Area, please tell us more details about your vision for the July 2015 Trend Areas? [L&G] We are very happy to be the creators of the trend forum theme. Instead of having one main Trend Area, we will create small highlights throughout the show floor, providing our visitors with a better show experience. Texworld USA is the apparel textile sourcing platform for North America, with a better priced and quality product selection. More than that, Texworld USA is an extraordinary creation with new techniques, it s an observatory. You can literally see what is in the immediate future for clothing. It was important for us to make each visitor feel this vibrant and exciting mix. The new setting of trends, with its different approaches (that you will discover at the show), will put a spotlight on this aspect of the show. [ApparelSourcing] What will be the theme for the Forums? [L&G] We can t unveil too much of what will be featured this season but we can say that our trend analysis leads us into a very optimistic direction. People are looking for more fun in their lives, with simplicity. Every element is re-invented, re-created, re-identified to create a new harmony: a PRELUDE to our future. [ApparelSourcing] How exactly does this program contribute to eco-friendly, sustainable causes globally, while benefiting the citizens of New York City? [L&G] For a designer, the creation of a garment is much more than the simple personal satisfaction to transform ideas into a product. Designers are artists and every artist has a message to pass. When it comes to fashion designers, their messages and values are included and supported by their garments. The creative act: creating a product includes manufacturers, raw fiber producers, industrials, and farmers basically the whole textile supply chain (which always starts with animals or agriculture). That s why fashion design is not superficial, not just a question of style, it acts on our everyday life, as the way we dress, but also reflects to how we live on earth. This sustainable consciousness is more and more present in each of us, designers integrate this aspect deeply in their creative process. More than simple, sustainable industrial processes that Texworld USA & ApparelSourcing featured from a long time ago, it s a complete state of mind that you can find through our inspiration book.

3 [ApparelSourcing] You are in charge of the Trend Areas within the Texworld brand. Where do you get your stunning ideas? [L&G] We appreciate that you qualify our job as stunning. As you know it s only the reflection of the world we re living in. More than that it s a team effort. The Texworld trend team works all year long to create trends for the seasons for three Texworld editions, twice a year. Composed by fashion designers, media specialists, graphic designers and authors. Our team scans the world to detect new ideas, movements and currents. The ideas that we present are not just ours they are from everywhere and we arrange the ideas to appear and be presented in a more clear vision. Our goal is to share our vision with visitors, that is why we want our setting to be attractive & seducing. In New York, we display a preview of the Parisian show that we build as an experience for visitors. The display attracts visitors to discover more in the stories of the books. The textile samples displayed within the forum bring all of our ideas to life. It s always astonishing to discover so much interpretation of the same idea. The fabric selection displayed in the forum is there to help our visitors find the jewels of the show, everything hot and new is there; and it s not rare that we discover the fabrics in a shops collection a few months after the show closes. [ApparelSourcing] Can you provide our attendees with a glimpse of what will be THE color in Autumn/ Winter 2016/2017? [L&G] Like the general feeling, the colors are true and full of optimism. But more than simple joyful vivid tones, the colors of the season feature a lot of deepness. They are not simple tones, they are vibrant, like an idea that is able to turn into another within a second. The palette is definitely alive, conscious; not animated by shades of light but definitely calling for attention, playing a new visual symphony. 5 STYLE FILE Katharyn Bond and Nima Katz, Fashion Law Studio Visit their Session: Fashion Law - 5 Things every Fashion Company should know (Wednesday 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) [ApparelSourcing] How did you get involved in the Textile Industry? [KB] In the summer of 2013, I took a brief sabbatical as an attorney representing filmmakers to launch my own apparel line, KAT BOND. Since my only sewing experience was replacing a button, and I had limited time, I immersed myself in my own fashion design and textile program. I attended fabric conferences, classes and seminars (TEXWORLD was my very first one!), researched textiles, met with textile representatives, visited fabric showrooms, introduced myself to industry folks, scoured Maker s Row for suppliers, and conversed with everyone I met--textile manufacturers, sales reps, models, pattern makers, sales people, retailers, wholesalers, emerging designers, and buyers. While I learned enough to source my fabric, find a factory, and develop patterns and samples, I also realized that fashion designers (like filmmakers) have limited access to affordable legal services. Film and fashion law deal with the same legal issues-- intellectual property, corporations, securities, employment, licensing, etc. and the legal and business problems that arise are strikingly similar. I decided that in addition to designing a dress, I would use my 360 degree legal skill set to try to create a solution to the paucity of accessible fashion law services available to fashion designers. So I designed a legal seminar, flew to present it at the DG EXPO conference in San Francisco, met Nima Katz, and the Fashion Law Studio was born! [NK] After several years practicing law at large New York law firms, I felt something was missing. After some pondering (and a visit to a numerologist!), it finally hit me - while I loved being a lawyer, I wanted to work with creative professionals. After close to 15 years in corporate America, my true passion was in the creative arts. So I started doing pro bono work with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts to begin working with clients in the creative space. Through VLA, I represented a variety of fashion clients, and was fascinated to learn that the skills I learned throughout my corporate career accounting, corporate law, securities law, finance law, employment law were seamlessly applicable to the work I was doing with small fashion businesses. Even better, my work was immensely valuable to creative-minded people. When life brought me to the West Coast, I decided to start my own fashion law firm, Nima Katz Law, representing companies, designers, artists, stylists, taste-makers and retailers in a variety of commercial transactions and intellectual property matters. When I saw the seminar schedule for the DG EXPO in San Francisco featuring a fellow lawyer, I was fascinated and intrigued. I attended Katharyn s seminar and was blown away - despite the fact that I d been a lawyer for almost 10 years, her seminar was one of the most useful, practical and digestible legal seminars I d ever attended. So we joined forces and the Fashion Law Studio was born! [ApparelSourcing] Why is your seminar the must-visit session? Two Words: RADIANT ORCHID. [KB & NK] Before we explain, we d like to say upfront that we know a legal seminar may not be on the Must Visit list. We ve sat in many legal education talks where the subject matter is boring, the speaker is from another planet, and the room is usually too hot! We do understand why the color trends for Fall/Autumn 2016/2017 is THE session most designers want to attend. But back to Radiant Orchid, The Color of That fabulous lavender color. It has already come and gone and now we are onto Marsala, The Color of And soon Marsala will be passé and the Color of 2016 will be in. We are willing to bet a zillion dollars, however, that the fashion law affairs a designer had in 2014 still remain in That is because the legal issues NEVER go away. Whether a designer collaborates with others, creates a line, hires a sales rep, uses interns, leases a show room, breaks up with a partner, obtains outside capital, designs a label, creates a new textile -- the legal issues are always an integral part of the business operations. The big challenge is how to get an understanding of these issues while handling the creative and business needs of the company and with only 24 hours in the day? That is why our seminar is a Must-Visit. It is not a trend, it is a solution. Neither of us have ever been called boring and we will give practical ways to approach and/or avoid a legal problem. And there will be a raffle! So come for the legal information, stay for the prize! [ApparelSourcing] What s a textile related topic that should be shared with our attendees? [KB & NK] Sustainability, a growing trend that few understand. For example, does it mean the use of organic materials? Or is it describing the working and environmental conditions of a manufacturing factory? Are we talking about a fabrication process and the limited use of toxic chemicals? Or do we mean the impact of fabrication and/or manufacturing on a community? When Katharyn was researching Tencel as possible fabric for her line, she learned that Lenzing is a global company that has created an all-encompassing, top to bottom, sustainability model--from the cultivation of Eucalyptus groves in South Africa that will eventually become the pulp used to synthesize Tencel, to the fabrication process that reduces and recycles waste, to the working conditions and compensation of its employees, etc. Lenzing s approach is more than impressive. It is hugely instructive. Right now, sustainability is becoming a global reality because consumers (who can afford it) want it. And yet, fashion designers have little idea of what it means creatively or in terms of business operations. They lack the time and resources to figure it out. Conferences present piec , limited instruction. It would be so insightful and practical if Texworld USA used its access to Lenzing resources to create a mini-program (not just one seminar) on sustainability that breaks ALL the components down, provides Lenzing s examples, explores obstacles, and offers real guidance to fashion designers on how to create and grow a fully, top down, sustainable company. [ApparelSourcing] Why is it important that a designer gets educated by an attorney? [KB & NK] We said it once and we ll say it again - the legal issues NEVER go away. Whether a designer hires legal counsel or tries to handle their own legal affairs, the fact remains that he/she needs to have a general understanding of the law in order to direct counsel, make a smart business decisions, and run and grow the business. Our seminars demonstrate how to use the law to build a strategic backbone for a fashion business, which becomes a powerful tool in building a successful brand.

In order to survive the extreme Mongolian winters (-30C) the goats grow extra fine fibers, the longest and finest, which in return results in the least pilling of cashmere products. Only a small percentage of global cashmere production is made of this prime quality. [ApparelSourcing] What s a textile related topic that we should bring to our Visitor s attention? [OM] The highest quality, premium cashmere products from Mongolia. [ApparelSourcing] What products will you be showcasing?
