3 WAREHOUSE DESIGN COMPETITION WAREHOUSE DESIGN COMPETITION THE COMPETITION THE PRIZES For the 4th year running, Warehouse and the British Fashion Council are teaming up to search for the next fashion design talent and fashion s next photographer. To help the quest we invite Course Heads from the BFC Colleges Council member colleges to each select graduating fashion design students whose final collections they feel show exceptional design ability, innovation and relevance to the current and future profile of Warehouse. For those colleges with communications/fashion photography courses, we ask that Course Heads select final portfolios of students whose work they feel relate to the Warehouse brand together with having a point of view on the future of fashion imagery. Fashion Design The winner will be offered a 6 month paid work placement with Warehouse where their collection will be produced and sold in a minimum of 10 Warehouse stores nationwide and online. Starting at design the winners will follow the product journey working alongside multiple departments. Supported by the expert teams at Warehouse including Design, Buying, Production, Marketing and PR they will gain a once in a lifetime experience in the retail and fashion industry. The following should be submitted for review: portfolio, photographs of the collection, sketchbooks and copies of mood boards showing background research. Fashion Photography Timeline 25th May - Deadline for Entries 29th May - Finalists Announced 1st June - Final interviews (Central London) The winner will be offered a 6 month paid work placement at the in-house Warehouse studio and will shoot the winning designers collection for the campaign which will be used for the collection launch and any press and promotional material. The winner will work with the Marketing team and the design winner to develop the creative concept for the winner s collection imagery. They will work with the experts in the Warehouse in-house studio to develop their skills in fashion photography before shooting the design winner s collection. The following should be submitted for review: portfolio and copies of mood boards showing background research.
4 RUTH GREEN - WINNER 2009 RUTH GREEN FOR WAREHOUSE 2009/ Ruth Green from Ravensbourne My Summer at Warehouse was invaluable, it taught me so much, from taking my collection through development into Production, Merchandising, PR, the whole process! My Warehouse family really made me feel like part of the team and I loved every minute of my time there. I also really enjoyed going back the next year to be on the selection panel, sitting on the other side of the table and looking at all the fab work! Following Ruth s time at Warehouse she completed an MA at the Royal College of Art and upon graduation won the Loro Piana award for the best knitwear collection. Now Ruth has designed a capsule collection for Skunkfunk launching Sept 2012, is working as a freelance knitwear designer for Rowan and has also launched the Ruth Green AW/12 collection at London Fashion Week with Vauxhall Fashion. Ruth s debut collection took inspiration from the later works of Mark Rothko and the mixed media work of Kurt Schwitters. The collection was young, fresh and innovative featuring experimental use of different knitting techniques, clean lines and bold colour giving it a unique and distinctive edge. My Summer at Warehouse was invaluable

The winner was Ruth Green, a Ravensbourne graduate, and her innovative knitwear collection. Ruth s debut collection is now available exclusively in Warehouse, for a limited time only. 6 DAISY CRAVER - WINNER 2010 DAISY CRAVER FOR WAREHOUSE 2010/ Daisy Craver from The University of Westminster Winning the competition was incredible. Seeing my collection being produced on a mass scale and bought by the public was something I could only dream of! I learnt so much during my time at Warehouse and it was an amazing opportunity to catapult me into my career. I am forever thankful for the Warehouse competition and what it did for me. Daisy is currently working at Burberry designing women's outerwear on the Burberry Brit outerwear team. Daisy s collection was created around the theme of the Modern Warrior Goddess, taking inspiration from ancient women warriors such as Boudicca and Arachidamia, aiming to make women feel sexy and empowered. Brought into the now, these references helped create the feminine meets rock chick look running through the collection. A dramatic juxtaposition of hard and soft textured fabrics blended to create truly outstanding debut pieces.

8 SHIVANI CHAVDA - WINNER 2011 SHIVANI CHAVDA FOR WAREHOUSE 2011/ PHOTOGRAPHY BY EMILY SMEATON Shivani Chavda from De Montford University Winning the Warehouse BFC design competition was an amazing experience. It gave me the incredibly unique opportunity to work with the brand to recreate my graduate collection and see it sold across stores nationwide. I gained a great amount of experience working alongside all areas from Marketing, Graphics and Production, to Buying, VM and accessories. The launch was so surreal and I was over the moon with how well it all went! Since leaving Warehouse Shivani is at Vivienne Westwood working in print design. The collection In My Wildest Dreams was created around Shivani s many inspirations including exotic animals and surreal art merging together to become fantastical creatures. Bold vivid colours run riot throughout with dramatic and impactful effect. Emily s photography captured the essence of the collection using London s Barbican conservatory as a backdrop. In 2011 the competition also searched for a new talent in photography to undertake a placement with Warehouse and shoot the winning designer s collection. Emily Smeaton from the University of the West of England Winning the BFC competition was completely unexpected but such a boost for the beginning of my career. I felt really well nurtured and that anything that I wanted to do whilst I was with Warehouse was encouraged and supported which meant that my confidence in my abilities grew immeasurably. Emily is currently working as a freelance photography and stylist assistant.
