You ve heard us talk relentlessly about the importance of sunscreen. A The most important thing is to assess and treat the cause of the veins and redness. If we don t treat the cause first, the results will never improve. There could be an underlying skin condition, such as rosacea affecting your skin. If there is no underlying medical condition, skin care is the best place to start. June 6th is the anniversary of D-Day. The 21st is the longest day of the year. And the third Sunday of the month is Father s Day. June is a perfect month for Father s Day because it signals the return of summer. And, it s perfect BBQ weather, which lets face it, is the only type of cooking some men like to do! This Father s Day, let your dad or husband take a break from the BBQ, and prepare a wonderful meal for him. Here are some great tips to master the grill: Don t cook cold meat. Bring your meat back to room temperature before cooking, making the cooking time quicker and eliminating the worry over whether it s cooked all the way through. Preheat your grill properly. Thin is In. The thinner the meat, the faster it cooks. Don t poke and prod. Be patient and only turn the meat once or twice. Don t press down on the meat or pierce the skin on your meat losing juices will dry it out. Don t fuel the fire with fat. This will only make the flames flare up and turn everything to charcoal. Expand your BBQ repertoire. You d be amazed at the things you can cook on the BBQ, (like pizza!). However, it seems that even those who have survived the deadliest forms of cancer are not heeding the advice. A new study shows that more than a quarter of people who have had melanoma say they never use sunscreen, eschew hats and long sleeves, and even 2% admit that they have used tanning beds in the last year. Quote of the Month The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts; therefore guard accordingly. Melanoma, like other skin cancers, is linked to sun exposure and indoor tanning, and is most common in fair-skinned people with a history of sunburns. It will kill almost 1,000 people in Canada this year. Survivors are nine times more likely than other people to have melanoma in the future, so they are advised to take their skin protection seriously. It s so easy to forget to put sunscreen on, and when it s nice out, the last thing you want to do is stay inside or wear long sleeved shirts. But it is incredibly important to follow the advice of the professionals. So the next time you re outside summer or winter make sure you apply sunscreen to any exposed skin!
