3 Minute with Michelle: What s the Deal with Warts? Skin warts are harmless, but they are a due to a surface skin infection caused by certain viruses stemming from the human papillomavirus. At Barry Lycka MD & Associates, we offer a number of treatment options that are non-invasive and highly effective. How We Treat Warts There are a few ways we can treat warts at Barry Lycka MD & Associates, including: SALICYLIC ACID This is a prescription-strength wart medication that gets absorbed into the skin through the wart s surface, gradually peeling away skin cells containing the wart virus. Clients can expect moderate discomfort, burning, redness and peeling during treatment. CRYOTHERAPY This involves freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen, and typically takes 1-4 treatments over several weeks. Clients can expect minor pain during and post-procedure that shouldn t last more than a couple days. PULSED DYE LASER (VBEAM) THERAPY We consider this a last resort if the methods above are unsuccessful. In extreme cases, we will use a Vbeam laser on the wart without harming healthy cells surrounding the virus. Clients can expect mild discomfort.
