1 MUSEUM MUSINGS A NEWSLETTER OF THE GENEVA LAKE MUSEUM FALL 2015 Clear Sky Lodge Fall Fundraiser October 10th Are you going? "Helping the Military" GLM was overrun with ladies from the 40's for a photo shoot to support women in the military. Models were entertaining as they emerged with "up sweep" hairdo's, blood red lipstick, the prettiest sun dresses and nylon hosiery with black seams up the back, plus spiked heels and painted toe shoes. Not only were the models spectacular, but their mode of transportation was a huge hit in the parking lot: a mile long Cadillac and an equally large Chrysler limo. Both were used for "outdoor" shots that attracted a lot of attention from guests and passerby! Less is more and I am "Betty" Susan Caya-Slusser, Director Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien, presented Life back in the Victorian Days from a servant's point of view. Another 2 where guests enjoyed history and etiquette points on how to unfold your napkin! Williams Bay Historical Society WBHS now has an exhibit up at GLM. Come check out great images that show how the Millionaires Train once pulled into the Bay to deliver those icons of Chicago society to their summer "cottages" around the lake.

3 Curator s Corner KERRY RYBA DOLL COLLECTION Kerry Ryba was born in Chicago, but moved to Wisconsin when she was three or four, residing in New Munster in Kenosha County. There were frequent visits to grandma, as well as various aunts. It was during these visits that Kerry picked up on their interest in dolls and sewing. This interest soon developed into a hobby, and motivated by her relatives, into the realm of collecting. Kerry's collection was vast and varied, including such notable names as Madame Alexander and Marie Osmond, among others. Trips to both Disneyland and Disney World with her family, resulted in a passionate interest in many of the Walt Disney characters. Whenever possible, new Disney dolls would appear in her collection. Betty and Joanne working on "suit" able attire for GLM's Mail boat Exhibit. 100 years old in 2016 Mail boat today is inextricably connected to Gage Cruise Lines but when it started June 15, 1916 things were at lot different. Artifacts and memories from days gone by will be brought together to celebrate the Walworth's milestone. Kerry Ryba died the Spring of Her sister, Laney Potter, long time Lake Geneva resident, businesswoman, and museum friend, very generously donated Kerry's collection to the Geneva Lake Museum. The Museum is delighted with this wonderful addition, and is greatly indebted to Laney for her thoughtfulness and generosity. It has not yet been determined how this collection will be utilized, but rest assured, there will be some new, unfamiliar faces greeting you on your next visit. Be sure to seek them out. Bring it in to share in our CHAIR EXHIBIT...it will really make you "sit and think"! ALL SCHOOL STUDENTS You are invited to visit the Museum for FREE with your Student ID! Check us out at genevalakemuseum.org Remember: History Loves Company
4 Only a few months left to "see" the Underwear Exhibit. Shown is Eve in her leafy underwear with Bob! Chair Exhibit opens April 16th! Mark your calendars: Private Membership Viewing Friday April 15th 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Annunziata in her "blue" period! AND we need folding chairs: cloth, metal, wood, large, small and in between. Only to be on loan for this really special exhibit. Can YOU help? Contact Karen Jo Alan and Vern put the finishing touches onto our Train layout. Thanks to Ackman glass: they installed safety glass and now the trains are ready to roll! Guests shown above were a part of the "76" people that visited one day in August. These women "loved" the museum, the history and taking pictures throughout every single exhibit. Their bus was leaving; they were not ready...such fun to see the museum being "used". Guests come from everywhere to enjoy the museum. This group was on a scavenger hunt for the letter K. Why don't you come and see what is "k"new! Exhibits change throughout the year!
