Since people always want something for something, Pamelashop offers objects in return for kindness. Each shop item has a compassion retail price. What do these objects represent and can you pay? 14 6 OCT 19 oct 1 OCT 31 oct 12 OCT 13 Nov Aire Place Exhibitions. Paint, Pot, Print Verges Gemma Carlier and Chlo Elizabeth In This Woman s Work Gemma Carlier examines themes of worship, power, gendered labour, and the boundaries between devotion and compulsion. The installation consists of a circle of standing obelisks, invoking memories of pagan places of power. The obelisks are woven from wool, challenging the expectation of masculine stonework and commenting on the nature of what we consider to be worthy of reverence. The artist lives with bipolar and finds this is a driving force behind her work In Too Human, Not Too Human, Chlo Elizabeth paints from photographic images and is interested in how visual language changes from medium to medium. Primarily she works from found black and white photographs and aims to integrate the past and the present. The photographs, dating from the 1950s-70s, offer snapshots of life in agricultural Yorkshire and Elizabeth s paintings highlight and exaggerate implicit power structures - between adult and child, man and woman - observed from the photographs. 15 2 OCT 28 oct 1 OCT 31 oct 3 OCT 31 oct Bek Boheme Bek Boheme Bek is from Leeds, she is self taught and art has been her great love affair since childhood. Her primary interest lies in atmosphere, seascapes, and faces. When it s just me and the canvas and I m alone with my brushes I sink into a deep conversation, I hope that by exhibiting my paintings I will be able to express myself to other people and widen my conversation with art. Variables and Manipulations Amanda Burton An exciting of contemporary drawings and artwork created using smoke, ink and fire in response to the theme of Chaos and Order. Amanda s studies in mathematics and science offer a broad source of inspiration and these past skills remain relevant in her current art practice. Variables and Manipulations explores how the principles of scientific experiments can be manipulated into her creative process. She works with volatile and chaotic mediums and merges these with ordered and repeating patterns to create work that combines the visual cohesion and connection of these two polar entities: the controlled and the variable Sidetracked Conrad Cookson A series of photographs that look for beauty in unexpected places. Conrad Cookson takes found objects and discarded items and turns them into something new. His photographs transform humdrum things into beautiful, sculptural formations. 16 1 OCT 31 oct 4 OCT 13 oct 5 OCT 26 oct It s OK Not To Be Perky Helen Gibson It s OK Not To Be Perky is a collection of paintings exploring the artist s feelings of connection, and disconnection, to life around them. The artist expresses their anxieties about going out into the world through intersecting and overlapping forms, merging together, being both connected and divided by strong lines. Bold colours and a variety of textures describe these entangled forms as they collide and connect on the canvas. Where they overlap a new colour and texture is produced, highlighting these connections and their positive impact. Through the series, this connection grows as the forms become even more entwined and indistinguishable. 1 OCT 31 oct Vibrance and Views Nicola Garvey A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. Inspired by the Becher s typologies, her collections of observations uncover the journeys she takes, the paths she frequently walks, and the flux in which nature exists. She is concerned with how our environments connect to us, and what that means for a person with a disability. Walking with her dog, she began noticing the remnants of tennis balls left abandoned by dogs. The images reveal a dog s toy, once loved and cherished, destroyed by play, and continue the story long after they have been replaced by a brand-new tennis ball. On Saturday 6th October dogs and their keepers are invited to a dog-friendly viewing of the and to share their stories of favourite toys, with opportunities to be photographed by the artist. Conception, creation, growth, decline, death... the ups, the downs, the smiles, the scrapes... Beyond which he believes there is an unbreakable beauty, grace and glory in the human condition, transient and imperfect as it is. Touchpoints deals with the too often taken for granted contacts, connections and collisions which shape our lives, focusing on the unions, the strengths and the passions, even in adversity.
