3 1. Section A. Uniform, Sports Kit, Hair, Make-Up and Jewellery Guidance for Main School (Years 7-11) The Governors and staff at Lord Grey School believe that the wearing of a distinctive school uniform makes an important contribution to the tone and reputation of the school, gives students a sense of belonging, and stops students coming to school in clothes which are unsuitable for school. Sixth Form students do not wear uniform but are expected to wear appropriate clothes for school, which are based on the concept of a dress code based on smart office wear. See Section B. Maisies are the main suppliers of Lord Grey School uniform to maintain the agreed standard Uniform Year 7-11 students will be expected to wear, on a daily basis: White shirt/blouse with a formal collar and top button Black tailored skirts, at least knee length, or black tailored trousers, loose at the ankle* Black v-neck pullover, sleeveless, with House colour School tie, with House colour, worn over top button of formal collared shirt Sensible black shoes with dark laces all black footwear Skin tone or black tights (not footless) Socks dark/plain in colour Green blazer Dark/plain outdoor jacket/coat Definition of loose at the ankle when the student is standing still and upright, the trouser fabric hangs naturally with at least 1.5cm gap between the trouser and the sock for the full circumference of the trouser leg. Thus there is room, hypothetically, to place a finger between the trouser and the sock, without having to stretch the fabric or pull at the seam. A boot cut style is deemed appropriate. 2. Summer Uniform (Date to be announced by the Deputy Headteacher; Pastoral, dependant on weather conditions. The school decides the date for summer uniform. It is most usually when a long period of sustained hot weather is expected; summer uniform will not be declared if the weather forecast is for just one or two hot days followed by a return to more moderate weather. Summer uniform is most usually in half term six only. Full uniform will be worn in half term one, even if the weather is unusually hot for September.) As above but the blazer can be removed. On very hot days the v-neck sleeveless pullover can also be removed. The tie is still to be worn. The shirt is to be tucked in. 3. Sports Uniform - Boys 3.1. Indoor/Athletics: White plain polo shirt or white polo shirt with navy edging, black or navy blue shorts, plain white sports socks, training shoes (not black soles), towel. Outdoor Games: Black or navy blue shorts, navy blue rugby jersey with gold band on reverse side, navy or black long socks, football boots, training shoes, towel and optional plain navy tracksuit. 4. Sports Uniform - Girls 4.1. Indoor Gymnastics/Dance/Athletics: White plain polo shirt or white polo shirt with navy edging, black or navy blue shorts, plain white sports socks, training shoes (not black soles) and a towel Outdoor Games: Navy hooded sweatshirt, plain white polo shirt or white polo shirt with navy edging, navy long socks, training shoes, navy shorts/tracksuit bottoms, towel and optional navy tracksuit. Navy blue tracksuit bottoms may be worn during inclement weather with the PE teacher s permission. Students are expected to come prepared during bad weather and should bring more than one t-shirt for extra warmth. It is recommended that students have a plastic bag for dirty clothes. All items of clothing should be clearly labelled and brought to all relevant lessons. All jewellery must be removed on health and safety grounds. It is advisable for students to wear shin pads and/or gum shields when playing rugby, hockey or football. Students must provide their own gum-shield. 5. Hair Hairstyles should be presentable in style not highlighted or dyed (no shorter than a number two cut) and colour within the range of natural hair colour. Tramlines and patterns are not permitted nor are tramlines through the eyebrow. Hair braidings, headbands and clips should be totally plain and dark or neutral in colour. 6. Jewellery Must be kept to a minimum One small stud earring in each ear lobe NO coloured plugs or studs NO hooped earrings NO other facial piercings, no retainers A watch on the wrist One plain ring on the hand Bracelets and necklaces should not be worn No tongue studs For safety reasons, there should be no other body piercings. 5 7. Clothing and Make-up additional guidance No leather, denim, suede, fur or hoodies, leggings, club football regalia or excessive makeup. Coloured nail polish is not permitted. Hats are not to be worn in school, but can be worn walking to and from school. Headbands, if worn, to be plain, black or dark green. Headscarves to be totally plain, dark in colour. Make-Up to be light and subtle. Nail polish to be clear or very light pink only. 8. Section B. Sixth Form Dress and Appearance Code Compulsory: Tailored smart trousers or skirt (knee length or longer) Collared shirt and tie for the young men Formal jacket for the young ladies Appropriate wear: smart footwear all smart collared shirt all smart plain t-shirt girls smart jacket all smart blouse girls Smart dress, knee length girls smart outdoor coat all Please DO NOT wear: casual shoes, flip-flops, scruffy trainers, Doc Martens boots, excessively high heeled footwear, neon/fluorescent coloured footwear leggings, jeggings, jeans, patterned trousers, denim trousers, combat trousers, shorts, culottes, sweat pants, pedal-pushers, cut-offs short skirts scruffy t-shirts logo d t-shirts sportswear (except in PE lessons) hoodies, sweatshirts, football gear. Also remember: no headphones to be worn around school no excessive make-up hair to be within the range of natural colours no radical hair styles no excessive jewellery or accessories no excessive piercings or body mutilation (e.g. deliberately stretched holes in ears) no visible tattoos no tongue studs. 6 The Sixth Form Team will decide on interpretation (e.g. what is scruffy or excessive ) and their decision will be final. 9.
