1 Phone: Mobile: Wednesday 8 November 2017: Newsletter Term 4 Edition 2 Principal s News This time of the year is one of my favourite with more students getting their honours awards. It is always wonderful to hear each individual student s story about achieving across all areas of the school and being a Proud, Active, Safe Achiever. Students have worked hard to get their honours which holds a very special place in our school. It is also great to be able to share the experience with parents and whanau. I m sure more honours will be achieved in the upcoming weeks. Our students through our wonderful Art teacher Sue Elliott do amazing art around the school. This is currently prominent in our front office where students have used inspiration from the artist Lucky Jackson to paint pictures of staff. I know the students have enjoyed the experience. If you are in the office make sure you view these. As the term continues to quickly disappear (five weeks left of school) I would like to remind parents and students to arrive at school between 8:15am and 8:40am every morning to avoid being late. If students are late (arriving after 8:45am), more than three times during one week we will be calling parents to remind them students MUST arrive at school on time, unless there has been an unforeseen reason. If students are repeatedly late we will contact the Auckland City Attendance Services (ACES) to independently contact parents for an explanation.
2 Tattoo Art with Tyla On Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 2 Tyla a tattoo artist came in and talked to us about tattoo art. She talked to us about how people use patterns to express their cultural identity and personality. She also talked about different styles and types of tattoos. We all designed our own tattoo most people used patterns from their culture and some did characters from their favourite games or shows. We all had lots of fun and learnt a lot. -Dylan Rm8 Performance Net On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, we had Alice from Performance Net, come to Pasadena and teach us a little bit about drama. During the time we spent with her we played games, acted out skits and expressed ourselves through movement. The games played were a whole lot of fun! Especially the game where you had to act something around a music theme, the final positions people ended up in were hilarious, and non stop. It was a great way to look into how we can communicate and interact with each other through the arts. - Rhylan Rm8 Movie Night Fundraiser "Come and join us at the Bridgeway Theatre for a preview of Paddington 2 on Wednesday 29th November at 6.30pm. We are lucky enough to see this movie 3 weeks before the NZ release date, so be quick and book your tickets. Price $20 per ticket which will include a glass of wine for the adults and ice cream for the children. Bring some cash for raffles also. C@P bank account details are ASB, Please Carole on caroleandmike@hotmail.com to confirm tickets and payment."
3 Pasadena Pop up art exhibition Thanks for the wonderful support and fabulous turn out. We had a fun night looking at the art and playing some of the games made by students. From the sale of student's prints we made $600 which is going to be spent on a piece of street art to go up outside the school. Component a local street artists has been commissioned to do a piece and students are busy writing up a brief for him. Congratulations to all the students who won prizes which were kindly donated by Hills Flooring and Bayleys Real Estate Intermediate Art Exhibition 20 students had their work selected for the Corbans Intermediate schools Art exhibition. This a prestigious event and we were well represented. Sports News Waterpolo Pasadena Intermediate participated in the North Island Champs Water Polo Tournament on Thursday 26th October- Sunday 29th October. We played multiple games a day and worked hard to come 1st in our pool! As the tournament progressed, we had some tough games. Overall, we came 7th in our grade. We would like to thank Isaac and Luke who are our amazing coaches, Linda Raynes for managing us, as well as all the teachers and parents who came to support us. Lactic Turkey On Tuesday 31st of October, 10 teams from Pasadena attended Lactic Turkey Orienteering up at Wenderholm Regional Park. Teams had to complete a range of different activities with the aim to collect as many points as possible in a two hour time period. Pasadena completed the course with P.A.S.A pride and some students even came out with some awesome prizes! A huge thank you to all the parents that transported students and shadowed them on the day - this event could not have been possible without you.
4 Pasadena Athletics 2017 On Thursday 2nd November, Pasadena Intermediate held its annual school Athletics Day at Mt Smart Stadium. Although it rained in the morning, the weather improved and over 200 students participated in a variety of events including, Shotput, Discus, High Jump, Long jump and the usual track events. Well done to all that gave it a go. I would also like to thank the parents that helped supervise and record data for each event: Tina Tucker, Ksenia Kurdyumova, Igor Zelenitsyn, Michael Wai Poi, Wayne Kira, Rochelle Lockley and Sarah McNaughton Year 7 Girls 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 100m Charlotte R5 Sophie R4 Kerera R4 200m Sophie R4 Kerera R4 Beza R8 400m Isla R8 Keira R4 Charlotte R12 800m Sarah R3 1500m Sophie R4 Kate R5 Long Jump Lottie R5 Sophie R4 Maggie R5, Danielle R11 High Jump Sophie R4 Aika R10 Ashley R9, Charlotte R5, Kerera R4 Discus Ruby R4 Chyna R12 Danielle R11 Shotput Sophie R4 Charlotte R12 Isla R8 Year 7 Boys 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 100m Benji R3 Niko R9 Vincent R12, Hiroki R9 200m Samot R3 Hiroki R9 Benji R3 400m Samot R3 Eric R11 Toby R12 800m Jed R8 Luke R5 Luke R4 1500m Jed R8 Liam R8 Long Jump Eric R11 Ethan R11, Theo R11 High Jump Niko R9 Samot R3 Luke R5 Discus Benji R3 Matthew R10 Kingston R3 Shotput Niko R9 Matthew R10 T Sharn R4 Year 8 Girls 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 100m Shahana R5 Brooke R5 Kaira R5 200m Shahana R5 Sophia R11 Ashley R10 400m Ashley R10 Sophie R3 Arwen R10 800m Sophie R3 1500m Sophie R3 Long Jump Emily R4 Margot R11 Brooke R5 High Jump Lotta R9 Paloma R4 Sophia R11, Emily R4 Discus Sophia R11 Minh Anh R3 Psalms R8 Shotput Brooke R5 Faith R9 Psalms R8 Year 8 Boys 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 100m Zac R12 Taha R8 LJ R11 200m Zac R12 Daniel R9 Elvis R8 400m Yara R8 Lambert R8 Daniel R9 800m Yara R8 Ryan R m Quinn R12 Yara R8 Jack R9 Long Jump Taha R8 LJ R11 Cameron R9 High Jump Jasper R9 Lucas R8 Connor R10 Discus LJ R11 Callum R11 Taha R8 Shotput Isaiah R12 Cyan R12 Taha R8 Relay Room 11 Room 9 Room 4
