7 SYSTEM - TWO SPRING The latest installment in the System-Series, System- Two employs a single thin titanium exoskeleton to achieve an elegant new take on a classic round aviator. Melding decorative styles spanning from antiquity to modernity, System-Two evokes the tatara ironworking method that allowed early Japanese blacksmiths to forge elaborate creations from clay blast ovens. This artisanal legacy flourished anew in the early 20th century, when modernist architects began to incorporate Japanese craftwork into structures and furnishings around the world. This decorative arts revival influenced the frame s industrial proportions, as well as its etched temples and intricately sculpted end-pieces. System-Two s linear titanium frame, which wraps seamlessly around titanium-cupped lens rims, acts as an anchor for a host of elegant finishing details. 11 RIKTON - TYPE 402 SPRING Meticulously engineered to harness the everchanging properties of light, Rikton Type-402 employs an innovative photochromic dual-lens construction for an unparalleled visual experience. The third in a triad of innovative concept frames for Spring 2018, Rikton Type-402 s muscular style frame is the first to make use of a stacked flat-base lens system, consisting of an interior tinted lens and an exterior photochromic lens; as ultraviolet light conditions change, the interplay of color between the two creates a chameleon-like visual effect. Whereas a standard single photochromic lens does not allow for a tinted lens experience, this lens system offers the best of both worlds: photochromic+color. Informed by adaptive reaction to light in the natural world, the Rikton Type-402 is Dita s first concept deploying two lenses into a single frame. Achieving this feat required extraordinary precision at the design level: Rikton Type-402 s titanium chassis contains slots for both lenses, as well as a small titanium spacer to resist friction, dust, and scratching; a tonal bridge bar containing the temples is then affixed over the top of the frame, securing its components in place. 13 CONIQUE SPRING Opposites collide in the form of Conique, a bold oversized women s frame that defies easy categorization. Nominally informed by the brash visual style of the postpunk movement, Conique features a juxtaposition of familiar elements that feel foreign when taken as a whole. The all-acetate frame is aggressively sculpted around both lenses, adding a squared weight over semi-round 2-base lenses. These geometries converge to achieve a bold, Aggro-Pop sensibility, an almost a childlike manifestation of the punk ethos. 15 NIGHTBIRD - ONE SPRING Sculpted with the grace of wings extended in flight, Nightbird-One s innovate titanium double frame builds upon years of experimentation with titanium construction. The first in a triad of innovative concept frames for Spring 2018, Nightbird-One relies upon tension to hold the its wing-shaped ombre lenses in place. Previous frames models, composed of a single titanium wire, were engineered to reduce the number of moving components and thus reduce mechanical friction; Nightbird-One s double frame construction gently cradles the lens between the thin titanium wire, creating a distinct design language for future Nightbird-Series frames. 17 AXIAL SPRING The glimmering brass and mirrored components of Enlightenment-era scientific instruments inspired Axial, a sophisticated women s aviator that represents the optimal blending of form and function. In order to achieve Axial s carefully considered footprint, which is smaller than the traditional aviator, DITA devised a series of groundbreaking techniques to ensure the frame s precision mechanics would match the appeal of its architecture. That process began early in the design stage, when designers softened the aviatorform and reduced the size of the lens; the resulting proportions convey an intellectual character without sacrificing the frame s sport edge. The slender, lightweight titanium exoskeleton is the result of customized metal dies, which are fitted into specialized heat presses and used to mold the frame into shape. DITA s signature Talon mount design creates the illusion of a floating lens; these extruded Talon elements are bent into shape with knurling, or fine grooves, on the front, invoking elements from the handcrafted metalwork of early telescopes. Like those early astronomic instruments, each of the frame s components is finely calibrated in the manufacturing process to minimize mechanical tension and ensure a precise fit. The extraordinary fit and finish gives Axial and elegant yet mechanized character. 19 TALON-TWO SPRING The Talon-Two is an all-titanium hybrid aviator with the signature Dita Talon. The unique lens shape was inspired by round character frames from the turn of the century combined with a 60 s aviator, while the Talon lens suspension elements are a nod to the mechanical Art Deco production design prevalent in German Expressionist film from the 1930 s. The all titanium frame uses Dita s signature Talon mount design to visually support a floating lens concept and accommodate for the thinner frame shape. The titanium structure of the Talon-Two has thin extruded sections that act as an overall exoskeleton for the lenses. These extruded Talon elements are the bent into desired shapes with fine grooving (knurling) on the front making for an extraordinary fit and finish. Special attention has been given to ensure the tolerances of the lenses and frames match precisely, minimizing the amount of mechanical tension between the two materials of lens and Talon mount. Custom-made metal dies fitted into specialized heat presses are used to create the frame shape. 27 SUPA-DUPA SPRING First introduced in 2003, the Supa Dupa defied the mainstream trend for small frames with a chunky, oversized acetate frame that would later come to define the granny chic trend. Wanting to create a frame their peers would wear, John Juniper and Jeff Solorio looked to their circle of friends for inspiration models, stylists and creatives all of whom were digging through thrift stores in search for the perfect oversized vintage frame. With this creative group in mind the Supa Dupa was born. The Supa Dupa sparked a craze that even the hottest pop stars of the time couldn t resist, and the granny chic trend hit the masses.
