A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING, & EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE The #1 way to organize your things and keep them in a neat and tidy fashion is to ensure everything has a home/container to live in. Alternatively, when everything is placed in labelled containers, it s less likely they ll wander to places they shouldn t be. Perhaps the best part of making sure every item in your house has a home, is that many of the items you ll need for this approach are already in your possession or are available relatively inexpensive at your local dollar store. NAIL POLISH Most women, (and some very stylish men) I know have a massive collection of nail varnishes. What to do to keep these bad boys organized? Glass or plastic cookie jars are the perfect nest for your nail polish, not only will it effectively display your confectionary of colors, it looks cute too. HAIR PRODUCTS The number of hair products we tend to have is jarring, and especially considering most are awkwardly tall or bizarre in shape means it s difficult to see what you have in stock. I love recycling old wine racks for placing all your products so you can see them in plain view. MAKE-UP BRUSHES AND APPLICATORS Your brushes and applicators shouldn t be left out because they can pick up a host of germs and dirt. Use your old sunglass cases for a compact and sanitary place to store your beauty essentials. BRACELETS AND BAUBLES You re probably not wearing all your jewelry because its packed into drawers and places the eye can t easily access. Layering a few cake trays is a shabby chic and effective way to display your baubles, especially watches and bracelets which are otherwise difficult to store. 7 June calls for a Skin Protection Win By Susan Krug, Medical Aesthetician and Phlebotomist In honor of the advent of summer and the success of the Red, Whites and Blues Gala, we joined forces with the Skin Cancer Foundation of Canada for some top tips to keep your skin protected from the damaging rays of the sun. 1. GET IT AND DON T FORGET IT: Particularly during the summer months, treat sunscreen as you would your cell phone or wallet; never leave home without it. You never know if you ll have an impromptu jaunt in the sun, and even 15 minutes of unprotected exposure can lead to massive skin damage. 2. WHEN FEELING THE BURN ISN T A GOOD THING: An SPF 15 blocks approximately 93% of UVB radiation, but an SPF 30 block more than 97% of harmful rays. That 4% may seem minimal, but it s often the difference between avoiding a sunburn or other harmful long-term skin damage. 3. CHANNEL YOUR INNER SHERLOCK: Nobody knows your body better than you do, it s important to keep on top of any changes to your moles. Keep watch for anything out of the ordinary, because when it comes to moles, you can never be too careful! 4. RUN FOR COVER: The strongest and most detrimental sun rays occur between 10am and 4pm. Looking to avoid sun damage? Run and hide and stay inside during these hours. 5. SUNSCREEN YOUR SMACKERS: It s easy to forget about ensuring your lips are protected. The skin on your lips is thinner and even more susceptible to sun burn, so pucker up with a lip balm jam packed with SPF. 7

Randi-Lynn now serves as our resident cosmetologist, sharing her knowledge about all things makeup and skincare. Whoever coined the term, eyes are the window to the soul, was right. Your eyes are also a huge indicator of your age and overall health. Diet, skincare products and cosmetic procedures can only do so much, so I thought I d impart my best cosmetic wisdom to get your eyes sparkling and looking bright to a level you never thought possible. HIGHLIGHT YOUR TEAR DUCTS Conservatively apply light beige shadows with shimmer on inner corner of the eyes, it s ok if the shimmer travels under your eyes because this only adds to the brightening effect. My go-to shadow is from Jane Iredale s line and it s called Oyster. You can buy it from our clinic as an individual unit or as a part of the Daytime eyeshadow kit. CURL YOUR LASHES Talk about an instant eye lift! Curling your eyelashes before you put on your mascara, and after your first coat (I usually suggest at least two coats of mascara) will lift even the smallest lashes and keep them perfect all day. WATERLINE + NUDE LINER Lining your waterline (aka the area between your eyeball and bottom lashes) will keep you looking fresh and rested, despite the opposite likely occurring. 10 The Life of a DERMATOLOGY NURSE By Kyla Lang, RN I ve been working as a nurse for half a decade, but my fascination with dermatology started while I was in university. When the opportunity to work in a dermatology clinic came up, I jumped at the chance. If you ve ever been to our clinic, you ll know that the nursing staff are an integral part of Dr. Barry Lycka and Associates. We make up the most significant portion of staff members (9 Registered Nurses and counting!), and we all share a passion for dermatology. MY TOP 5 SKIN SAVIOR TIPS: Every day is different, which is challenging and invigorating because we have such an incredible variety of both cosmetic and medical patients. Don t smoke and avoid anyone smoking (second hand smoke is horrifically damaging to your skin) 2. Never, ever go in the sun in less than SPF Clean and disinfect your make up and applicators every couple of weeks 4. Drink plenty of water your skin takes time to reflect that it s dehydrated so if your face is flaky and irritated, it s time to seriously up your H20 consumption 5. Eat yourself healthy! Ensuring you regularly consume natural foods, including salmon, cucumber, coconuts, raspberries and blueberries, is a sure ticket to stellar skin 10
